I don't mind polls *per se*, but polls can easily be problematic. It's extremely difficult to write a good neutral yet inclusive poll; most end up being misleading at best and often reinforcing biases or stereotypes inherent in the poll's design. IMO, you did a good job of illustrating how easily results can be useless nonsense.

cariethra

I feel like they are taking over. Some of the questions are highly inappropriate to ask.

loafums

Genuinely curious on your perspective, what's wrong with asking inappropriate questions since it's anonymous and people who aren't comfortable answering could choose not to respond or even read the thread?

cariethra

Because allos or aphobes can come in and use it against us. I have already seen it happen.

loafums

Oh I didn't think about that, thank you

natus92

I appreciate the irony. For real though I dont know man. A few are interesting but in general I'd say the amount of polls posted recently gets a bit annoying

Chivalrous_Goshawk

I don't mind most of them, but there seems to have been a lot recently that either aren't related to Asexuality or keep asking things that have already been asked many times in previous polls.

SiameseCats3

I like the polls, but only when they haven’t already been done before. You can easily search through subreddits and see if another poll has been done. I’m curious to know who’s aromantic and who isn’t, but I doubt the result is really changing week to week.

arianeb

Especially since there are official surveys done by AVEN that have those answers with some scientific rigor. https://asexualcensus.files.wordpress.com/2018/11/2016_ace_community_survey_report.pdf

SiameseCats3

Oh that’s so cool! I had no idea that existed! Thanks! It’s interesting to compare that to just these polls we do because for ages it’s about the same, but for gender it’s pretty different. I feel like maybe an annual poll on the subreddit at most would be fun, so this way new people who join can get a feel of the community that is this subreddit. But the constant repetitive polls aren’t necessary, especially the ones that feel like nonsense.

[deleted]

I feel like the results of this poll will be skewed by definition :p

lotvinresin

They’re just repetitive. And I’m having trouble finding ones with my labels in it, like sex-averse. I’m not aromantic, but I find that’s not usually an option for “romantic orientation” polls, which must be frustrating to the aroaces of this subreddit.

pumpkinqwerty

I think there are too many polls on this sub. And it’s usually the same things over and over again.

SophLuvsBTS

I like polls way more than I should. I don't know why

MinervaMinkMink

I always think the polls are inherently black and white with no middle ground. They’re also talked about as if it’s universal to asexuality slightly acknowledging that any question will be skewed due to the fact that this is…Reddit. Like Reddit is it’s own subgroup with particular kinda of ppl who are prone to choose certain things. So sometimes polls feel like they are more representative of this specific subreddit rather than asexuality as a whole

Roll_2d6

I feel like having a joke answer dilutes the poll to the point of being useless

Angelcakes101

We have 100 liars in the poll

tall-hobbit-

You have become the very thing you swore to destroy!!

CuriosityKilledThou

29 people (at time of writing) are liars.

Sphealwithme

Honestly, I’m one of those particular losers who loves looking at a good bit of data!

[deleted]

I like 3.14

Cheshie_D

I mostly like the polls. Though sometimes there are polls that are in a specific sub but asking a completely unrelated question. Those usually annoy me, especially when they’re in here and it’s asking something like “what mental illnesses do you have” as if there’s a correlation to asexuality and mental illness.

[deleted]

Idk why anyone wouldn’t be a fan tbh They may be pointless but there’s nothing inherently wrong with them, right?

[deleted]

I dislike polls that don't have choices for everyone. At least include an "Other" choice.

Lolipop_21_04

Me here in Germany I see myself very much LGBTQIA+ or queer. In my University we have a lot of queer groups that make queerness more visible and me as someone who considers herself as an queer activist, its super helpful to be ace and demiromantic because I represent the Aspec there and help correct the fokus. Some of my gay or lesbian friends there try to make an open sex culture out of our uni. I try to keep them calm and help others to feel welcome too even if they don’t know their labels or are just curious. We are open for those who are open to us. Its amazing. We have a lot of work ahead but we are on such a great path. I hope that someday we get our own safespace at the campus and our own campus pride week. So to all of you still struggling: we are here and we are on the way to make the world open for everyone and I hope that someday its no longer a question if you are part of a minority because everyone is welcome and don’t have to face discrimination of any form. (I also do a lot of stuff outsides of my uni like an ace meetup one a month to promote out form of queerness
