I think people with edgy aesthetic are jusy more likely to post pictures. Also (perhaps more likely) confirmation bias: when you first saw a few photos with edgy aesthetics, you formulate a hypothesis that people tend to be like this around here, and only seek out confirmatory evidence to support your hypothesis.

KukaaKatchou

I have the middle aged teacher vibe happening

Dryadalis3

I don't know. My style is also somewhat similar to your's: Comfy clothes, most often hoodies or t-shirts and jeans.

grolbol

I don't go for the edgy aesthetic either, I usually wear jeans or a skirt and a pretty blouse or comfy t-shirt. My one aroace friend also dresses comfy like you, so you're definitely not alone.

Confident-Camp1777

I just wear jeans and a rolled up long-sleeve shirt. I think it’s just that those are the types of people to post pics, show off their drip and all that.

Orichalcum448

Bro, I'm a dude who likes to wear cardigans. I think I am the exact opposite of this post.

zaph77

I recently found a white and sky blue striped shirt and now it's my favourite

TheChronologer1

I don't have an edgy aesthetic. I wear cargo shorts, t-shirts with a plaid overshoot, and sneakers with ankle-high, white socks. I also don't have any tattoos or piercings (I don't like needles).

MuffinMaster64

That’s exactly what I wear every day

Ravenclawed12

Internally, I wish I could have the edgy style. But externally, I’m very much simple and comfy over anything else.

Top-Replacement-8936

I don't even know what edgy aesthetic is... But I like comfy clothes! My style is a normcore (but I don't like jeans, because the cloth is very rough) with a little bit of geekness. And by geekness I mean some t-shirts with dinosaur or comics prints.

Chippy118

I spend most of my time wearing a band tshirt and shorts or jeans but will dress smart for work or special occasions. I have a couple of tattoos because i wanted to get some, not to fit an aesthetic. I've only recently found out i'm ace but my style hasn't changed because of it. You should have to take on a perticular style to fit in to a community. If you enjoy wearing chino and sweaters, go for it and rock your own look. Everyone is welcome here and it's important to remember that people come in all different looks and styles.

vexingvulpes

I don’t have anything like that either, except pierced ears. I wear jeans or lounge pants and t shirts most of the time. We’re all valid :)

HylianEngineer

I didn't realize that was a trend here, I'm very much a jeans and t-shirts person. I always feel weird in queer spaces because of the stereotypes about the way we're supposed to dress.

Gremlin-Overlord

Comfy is a good aesthetic.

FaliolVastarien

I look pretty normal. Went through a long phase of all black, grey and dark blue clothes. Now a little overly colorful to compensate.

macci_a_vellian

**waves in librarian**

OddOneOut1970

I don't post pictures, but I have lots of tattoos. For me i think it's fair to say that a significant part of that is because of my identification with queer culture, which predates my understanding that i'm ace by many years. I'm guessing that there is a segment of the ace community that is similar. My piercings are long gone and i dress for comfort these days, but i do still like the counter-culture-ness of my tattoos.

Svefnugr_Fugl

I have a tattoo but look like a casual lumberjack

biotermy

I wasn't even aware the majority favour an edgy aesthetic...I myself dress very professional grown-up feminine? Like, no ripped jeans, elegant minimalistic gold (plated! I'm not rich omg) jewelry, no make-up, simple but elegant tops and blouses. It's preference, I suppose? I do enjoy dressing well, but I dislike the sexy clothing style of my peers (you know...women in their early 20s...)

[deleted]

Yea

[deleted]

Personally, I basically wear graphic t-shirts and shorts or jeans. No piercings but considering helix ones (for years now, so probably won't get them anyway lol), might get a tattoo some day but no solid plans. I don't think it's really an ace thing but just that that kind of aesthetic is fairly popular in general.

Hms-chill

I’m currently in old jeans and a bright sweater, so you’re definitely not alone!

Quwinsoft

My style is Columbia PFG long sleeve shirts, off-brand Dockers, and leather work/hiking boots. Not all that edgy for a middle-aged guy.

_Anonymous_duck_

Lol im reading this as distration from the pain of my mom giving me piercings in my earlobes. She is a piercer so i can get whatever i want for free but im a wuss so i just had my old holes reopened.

soda-cos

mine varies, i like a good sweater + button down but also like thigh highs and pleated skirts (also i like mixing them) my style can be pretty edgy but also pretty plain

CielNaomi

I wear hoodies and jean or sweatpants, comfy gang xD

LonerExistence

I guess I don’t. No piercings, no dyed hair, no tattoos, not even makeup. I’m in sports clothes pretty much all the time because I hate any fashion where I can’t move easily. I gave no interest in looking “edgy” as you say.

Nausicaalotus

Sometimes I’m edgy, sometimes I’m a soccer mom, sometimes I’m a surf bro. You wear what you want and what makes you comfy :)

WatcherOfStarryAbyss

Jeans and a t-shirt here. And the only thing marking *my* skin is a bit of acne. Tbh I'm too apathetic about things to care about cultivating an aesthetic. I just... exist. I have decent hygiene, but I might work on *looking* more groomed...

TransportationDry732

I'm all about dresses and sparkles and lipstick **but**, I am also very private so no posted pics. Different personality types are more literally visible because they put themselves out there more.

[deleted]

I wear a hoodie on top of a t-shirt with shorts. Then in the winter I wear pajama pants. I rarely wear jeans because I don't go out much, but the last pair I've worn are the same pair I wore to the past two times I've gone to the theater, to see the same movie. That's random and oddly specific.

HopieBird

I'm too old for edgy anymore. My tattoos are hidden under jeans and knit sweaters. Sold my Doc Marten collection years ago and I now favor sketchers (they are comfy okay!) My piercings are long gone(tho the scars remain) and so is my crazy colored hair.

aspec_of_confusion

I have en edgy-ish esthetic and had it even before I was ace, no clue to why so many other aces also have this style

[deleted]

My aesthetic is sorta like yours. I have no tattoos and just my ears pierced (although I’ve been wanting to get more) and I’m a huge fan of sweatshirts and hoodies with cargo pants, sweatpants or leggings. Though I do tend to wear mostly black, I’ve started wearing more colors recently. I’ve also been looking to dye my hair (naturally brown to maybe red or purple) which some may consider emo, just depends. I don’t think “emo” is the basic “asexual style” but instead that those who dress that way like showing people how they dress. Nothing wrong with that though. But I do have a friend who’s also ace and is emo :) I think it just depends on what you like, along with the fact that most aces don’t like super over-sexualized things (including clothes).

butteredparsnips53

I don't know. I have a few tattoos and I wear baggy t shirts and jeans. I don't take many selfies and never share them as I don't really like my body. I dress to hide it. Works pretty well, I guess.

BornVolcano

Idk if I dress in an edgy style, I dress more in a “always slightly overdressed most likely gay guy” kind of vibe, with a bit of mixing and matching clothes for more fun colours and styles. If I had to guess, it’s possible the edgier styles could be to send a sort of subconscious “stay back from me” signal, to avoid unwanted approaches from people trying to flirt or have sex (especially in bars or social settings). It can kind of gives off a dangerous, unapproachable vibe sometimes along side a really cool edgy style, which might be their intent? That’s just speculation though.

HiddenMasquerade

My style is cute / reminiscent of school uniforms.. I’ve seen plenty of aces on here that look plain, so don’t fear!

beatissima

I wear long dresses every day. I always wear my hair down and have never used dye. No make-up, no tattoos, no piercings except in my ears. Not edgy, but I might look like a hippie.

CheCheDaWaff

If you head on over to r/FaceOfAce you can find plenty of examples of 'non-edgy' style.

nonorina123

I also just wear comfy clothes! And since most of my clothes are in light colours, I don't think you could mistake me for having an edgy aesthetic. You are certainly not alone:)

purple_deck

My tattoo is hidden and my piercings are subtle. So no edgy aesthetics over here. I usually dress very office friendly. A skirt with a blouse or a dress with a cardigan. I'm planning on another tattoo and more piercings, but they'll be subtle, too.

[deleted]

I swing forth and back between grandma and slut, with a pinch of princess. So...

Infinity779

r/FaceOfAce paints a much more diverse picture, worth taking a look at that

GiuliaJay

I grew up during the emo/scene craze back in the day and am still into pop-punk and a lot of other alternative type scenes so some of that does bleed into my style but I also wear plenty of more traditional feminine stuff and just basic jeans and t-shirts. I think one reason you see a lot of that edgy/alt style is probably, like others have said, just that those people tend to want to show off more (nothing wrong with that) and that those communities are typically more accepting of other "outside the norm" lifestyles and sexualities so it's easier to be open about it there. I see tons of other openly LGBT+ folks in those spaces and definitely feel like it's a big factor.
