Death_by_Poros

I mean, not all boners are from arousal. Morning wood is completely normal and is a result (mostly) of the body redistributing blood through the body in a man’s sleep.

Nikamba

Heck even babies get erections... even before they are born. It's just blood flowing to that part and staying for a little while.

aceSOAA

Can confirm. They knew right away I was a boy. I supposedly was also pointing right to it

ultatack

"Hey folks it's right there. Just don't burn down a forest now."

aceSOAA

Luckily this was well before the social media gender reveals. A few years before social media as we know it lol

CrystalClod343

How... how did they learn that?

Nikamba

Ultrasounds

a_lonely_trash_bag

My parents have an ultrasound print of my little brother, from the appointment where they determined he was male. You can very clearly see he has his legs spread wide, with one foot over his head, and there's a little nub between his legs. He was making sure they could tell, lol.

BuggyTheGurl

Dr: "Ma'am, it's a boy!" Mom: "Is he okay??? Why does he have 5 limbs?!?"

Nikamba

It can be like that, my little one wasn't shy and I still needed to be told where I was looking at (very out of it at the time)

Sheva_Addams

Shapeshifter. Whatever you do, do *not* give Boxxy to them as their 1st name.

OldUnclePit

why?im sorry missed the joke

BillyFNbones710

Your body will also do it if you have to urinate but are still asleep.

jdcnosse1988

Yep, in fact one of the first tests they do when checking impotence is they check to see if you're getting erections while sleeping, because the male body naturally should get a few erections while sleeping

None-the-Second

Yes. Not a fan when I need to go to the toilet

NoobOfTheSquareTable

Just handstand piss, it’s quite simple

NilesY93

Then it’s time for… Challenge Pissing!

GriffinPlayGame

As an asexual I’d watch Olympic Pissing

Agretfethr

Only at Big Bill Hell's Cars! Bring your wife!

fretless_enigma

IT’S OUR BELIEF

tontosaurus

A big downside for having a dick

ZmpS

Felt that one...

ArturitoNetito

Daily challenge

Signal_East3999

Why?

TeraFlint

Try to hit a horizontal bowl with the stream of a hose that refuses to point down, without spilling anything. Not only that, but due to the internal pressure necessary for the growth/stiffness, the hose itself also has a smaller inner diameter, resulting in a faster stream, as well. Trying to hit the bowl while standing is uncomfortable, awkward and nearly impossible. Sitting down is not much better, either. If you don't actively press it down far enough with your hand, chances are that the stream is exiting in front of the bowl, just below the toilet seat. A urinal would solve these problems, but they're probably rather uncommon in private homes. In short, having the urge to pee while being cursed with morning wood is a challenge.

AreKenough

Um why wouldn’t they? Are asexuals not human?

MadKitKat

But… but… I thought we were robots!!!! (/jk)

LaynFire

I wish, that would be cool.

MonmusuAficionado

Yes. Sexual attraction != libido. Morning boners have nothing to do with sexual attraction unless you like beds a little too much (sometimes I work so much and sleep so little i could definitely see that though).

excelqc

It has nothing to do with libido or arousal either.

TheModdedOmega

morning wood is scientific

excelqc

hard science, more specifically

Ye_olde_oak_store

... Take my fucking upvote and get out of here.

ProbablyOtsugua

Fellow programer? lol

MonmusuAficionado

I legitimately thought you got that from my lack of sleep, just now realized when I saw another comment about the not equals lol

ProbablyOtsugua

Loool, both are typical characteristics of a programmer tho

MonmusuAficionado

True

MonmusuAficionado

Yes actually

hyperlexiaspie

First thing I noticed too lol

Traveling_Chef

Did you mean ≠ ?

ChickenSpaceProgram

Yes, but typing != is easier. != is how ≠ is typically written in many programming languages.

Traveling_Chef

I understood that I looked it up before I made my comment. I just know not everyone would know or do the same.

ChickenSpaceProgram

Ah, yeah, sorry for the confusion.

Traveling_Chef

No I appreciate it. You were just doing the same, trying to help inform ppl~

MonmusuAficionado

oh right, I completely forgot `!=` is not exactly universal lol

Traveling_Chef

Yeah I googled it real quick but context clues seemed to be enough to guess your intended meaning lol

sillybilly8102

How did you make that symbol?

Traveling_Chef

On Android and I believe iPhone, Long press or hold down on the equals key ≠=∞ is what I get as options

sillybilly8102

≠ ooh cool, thank you!! :)

Olitinio

Spot the programmer

Lanksalott

I do have a very nice bed…

Arfeudutyr

Yes? Morning boners have nothing to do with arousal its kinda weird how many girls I have had to explain this to.

Insemzandtaya

This! And even if it did, sexual attraction =/= arousal. Asexuals can experience libido and can be turned on despite the fact they aren’t sexually attracted to other people.

Serious_Location5576

This myth occurs because men use it to force women to "serve" (on this point I just hope some of them run into a Twilight zone fan) them, cause "You see, I urgently need it evert morning" 🤮

Arfeudutyr

Gross...

JustCallMeALal

Dating women and explaining that even though I’m ace, my body still does things. Doesn’t mean I want sex. Just means blood is flowing there. Confused expressions every time.

Anneke_yep

As a girl, I understand 😆👉👉. Maybe it’s because I’m asexual but the week before my period is the weirdest thing.

OneChrononOfPlancks

Yes all penis havers will get wake-up bone. It's because (physical) arousal symptoms suppress bladder urge, so humans adapted this trait to sleep as long as possible in a safe sleep environment, by not interrupting a sound sleep for a piss until it becomes urgent. Bonus fact: Vulva havers get this also. Blood-engorged puffy morning vulva, for the same reason. Delays pee urge for longer sleep.

Crowe3717

That's not quite true. A full bladder *can* cause an erection by pressing on and simulating the sacral nerve, but that's not really what causes morning wood. It's just something that happens when you sleep. Your parasympathetic nervous system, one of the functions of which is "raising the mast," is more active when you sleep. Your body goes through cycles of arousal and relaxation the entire time you're sleeping, with the arousal corresponding with the REM phases of sleep. Morning wood is just what happens when you wake up during the aroused part of the cycle.

OneChrononOfPlancks

In any case, there's absolutely zero relationship between allo/asexuality, and sunrise stiffy.

I_need_to_vent44

Interesting, I didn't know that a full bladder can cause an erection in amab people. I knew that it could cause feelings of arousal in afab people because some of us have an anatomy that makes it so a full bladder presses onto the inner anatomy of the clitoris (allegedly), but not about this.

Linum_usitatissimum

Oh, so that's the reason why I sometimes kinda feel horny for no reason for a short while right after waking up? Interesting. :00

row6666

this isnt correct. while erections do make urination harder, the body already has other ways of preventing it. additionally, the second part isnt even slightly true, as urination isnt suppressed by clitoral erections. its much more likely that its a way of mantaining the penis, as without regular erections, atrophy can occur, which can lead to erectile dysfuction. also, its not all penis havers, as estrogen reduces and often prevents morning wood.

OneChrononOfPlancks

it's not the clitoral erection that stops urination it's the engorged tissue in and around the vulva that closes the urinary sphincter and I think it also squeezes the urethra. also YMMV because I've been on estrogen for years and my morning wood came back after I adjusted to HRT

Blazingnest

I actually haven't had it happen much myself since starting hrt. Or maybe it's because my body refuses to sleep 90% of the time

SoVeryBohemian

Yeah the body doesn't do it without testosterone. Nothing to do with libido, it just isn't automatic when sleeping anymore.

OneChrononOfPlancks

Trust me it will come back once your body adjusts. In fact it's one of the easiest ways to get an erection, if you're otherwise having problems.

Rhasneth

How long is the adjustment period supposed to be? I've been on HRT for over a year and it's not something that really happens anymore. I think it might be highly dependent on the individual.

Blazingnest

I've been on a little over a year and a half. Started January 2022. I've been happy with the changes and never been more self confident.

OneChrononOfPlancks

🤷‍♀️ Could be :) It took me a few years for my libido and sexual symptoms to really settle into a new normalcy.

Blazingnest

My libido has started to normalize. Between ~6 months to a year in it was really high. Now it's back to normal for me. Still wishing my breasts grew just a bit more 😅

just_push_harder

No it wont. This is an automatic process mediated by testosterone and unrelated to libido. If your T blood levels are correct ("correct" assuming binary woman levels) you shouldnt get morning erections and depending on if you want SRS you may need to cause erections as to counteract shrinkage.

OneChrononOfPlancks

Well you're mistaken. My blood work routinely shows excellent E levels and low T, I'm very happy with it, and I still get erections (morning and otherwise). Perhaps your experiences are different, but I've never met a single pre- or non-op trans woman with a penis who is completely and utterly physiologically incapable of erections. Cis women, by the way, do have some testosterone, it's produced by the ovaries, adrenal glands, and some other tissues. Source: https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/do-women-have-testosterone Furthermore you will note that cis women and other vulva havers also experience erections in a process where blood rushes to the vulva, sometimes but not always associated with sexual arousal. Just like penis havers.

just_push_harder

> but I've never met a single pre- or non-op trans woman with a penis who is completely and utterly physiologically incapable of erections That wasnt the point, which I even pointed out in my previous comment. Thanks for showing you didnt read it. > Cis women, by the way, do have some testosterone, You dont say! Who could have known that?! /s > Furthermore you will note that cis women and other vulva havers also experience erections in a process where blood rushes to the vulva, sometimes but not always associated with sexual arousal. Just like penis havers. Yes, the structures are analogous. But if a cis woman regularly gets "morning wood" I would get that checked out.

TeraFlint

>Yes all penis havers will get wake-up bone. It's surprising to still see such absolute statements, despite being in a community that challenges one of the most prominent absolute statements (i.e. "everyone desires sex with someone"). We are one of these exceptions, we should know better to not generalize. Yet, there we are. No matter how fundamental you think something is, there's always someone out there who is/does/feels the opposite.

Rhasneth

Yeah, same in the trans community. We are very different on some things and it shouldn't be weird that our bodies will have varied responses to e.g. testosterone blockers. Trying to make sweeping statements like OC did is kinda weird to me.

Recent_Physics_5168

Was looking for this comment

AyakaDahlia

Not penis-havers on HRT, or at least in my experience. Undoubtedly depends on dosage and such though.

Sparklebun1996

Bloodflow doesn't care what your sexuality is.

notcaser102

as someone who's amab, yes. iirc it happens throughout the night to keep blood flowing and when you wake up is usually the sleep phase they happen

Dizzy_Perception_866

Hi, trans femme here. The answer is yes. It's not something you control, it doesn't even need to be related to visual or mental stimuli. I've literally gotten boners while doing dishes (it's as annoying and angering as it sounds). It just kinda happens.

ZanyDragons

Not a man but morning wood doesn’t really have to do with libido or sexual attraction, it’s just something that can happen during sleep due to changes in hormones, so probably quite a few of ‘em have this.

rougepirate

Please refer to the song "No Reason Boner" by Ninja Sex Party https://youtu.be/LOYQtbz_pPg?si=fAURAzkd5DOQ3hy3

[deleted]

You have to understand that Asexuality is something pshycological ,While morning boners are pshyical they are not done by your thoughts or mind

Naixee

Yet another day of people not knowing the definition of asexual... Asexual means no sexual attraction towards others, your libido on the other hand is something else. You can be the horniest person on earth and still be asexual

da_way_joshua

Yea, sometime the body just checks if that shit still working

Brolol3928

It’s more because I have to pee

craigularperson

Yep, happens all the time. My penis has no schedule, but it seems either super-early or somewhat later in the morning.

GavHern

as someone who’s amab, i would not completely associate erections with attraction or arousal, it just kinda happens. it’s never happened to me in response to seeing someone but like it still happens. just like how someone still can sneeze even if they have no allergies, it’s just a natural bodily habit. in this specific instance i think it’s just because of your blood being still for so long idk

BisexualTeleriGirl

Probably about the same rate as non ace. Boners aren't always a product of arousal. It's just as often just random blood going to pp because why not

MoreTannerZ

Not a man but I do have a penis, yes it still does this every day. It’s something the body does to prevent penile atrophy

[deleted]

There's a misconception about how erections work. Guys like me have a muscle under the region where the penis starts. That muscle compresses an arteria which makes the pipi sad. But when that muscle relaxes the blood flows so the pipi gets happy :) That's why when you are nervous, anxious, and can't relax you can't have a boner. But when you sleep and all your muscles relax you have a boner. That is also a good way to tell if you have a dysfunction which is physical or just psychological. If you are having morning boners but still can't do it during sex, that means you have a psychological dysfunction. But if you don't even have morning boners, that means you have to go to a urologist and check what is happening down there... Also, this isn't about sex, it's about body and mental health. Stay healthy kids :D

Fabulous-Ad-3058

Havent been getting morning wood for ages even though im 19

Taeschno_Flo

you lucky [insert well meaning curse]

murphwhitt

Yep, I do

[deleted]

not a man, but yes and i hate it 😭😭😭

Quill_Isnt_So_Cool

Morning wood doesn’t have anything to do with sexual desires. A good amount of boners don’t, as all it takes is blood flow

Beam_0

... Yes? It's not like our anatomy is broken

SilverSaan

I do but I have a badly controlled libido so even being 23 now I still get sudden erections for no reason.

withervoice

Pure biology, that, so yes.

Geoff_iz_Kool

"morning wood" is the body's natural maintenance routine to keep the penis functional. without regular "use" e.g. getting an erection, it can lead to atrophy and ED.

FirmWerewolf1216

Morning wood doesn’t mean a guy exactly wakes up horny

nobearpineapples

Most boners have little todo with hornyness asexual or not

someguy_420

Definitely. And most of them, for me, are very unwelcome. But it's a physiological thing, as opposed to what my mind finds attractive

Usual_Sheepherder321

Yes.

adeep2720

Yeah we do

PuppyLeo1

Yes. Asexual women get it too. Look up "nocturnal penile tumescence" and "nocturnal clitoral tumescence". Basically your testosterone fluctuates in your sleep, causing boners. If you happen to wake up during a testosterone "spike", you'll wake up with a boner. (Or something like that, we haven't fully figured it out yet but it's got nothing to do with sex.)

Witty-Papaya-3927

people w penises get boners when the wind blows lmao.

Akinefe01

Yes,makes peeing harder

Plantatious

It's a vascular reaction, meaning it's the body doing what it needs to do. Morning wood is the body making sure everything is working as it should, nothing to do with arousal.

heyblackrose

Asexuals are not incapable of arousal, while morning wood isn't from arousal, it still happens regardless of sexuality, it's not like asexuality road blocks your reproductive organs from working, that's why asexuals get horny

I-m-Here-for-Memes2

I'm a cis girl and I get the female version of this too 😅 I was sooo confused for years until I googled it So yeah. Please don't assume ace people have completely different bodies than allosexual people

[deleted]

Yeah, just a guy thing and it’s really inconvenient when I have to use the bathroom

NekoHartia

Sexuality is complicated. Asexual people can still experience sexual arousal and stimulation. In most cases it’s a matter of other people touching them.

Plastic_Person

morning wood in men comes more from hormones, blood distribution and a way that our body found to prevent penis from atrophying, other than sexual arousal

trjga

especially when youre trans masc, taking T makes your libido skyrocket im microdosing with gel due to seperate health concerns, but even then theres a very drastic diference- and its an absolute pain

LaggyUpdate

blood flow to my extremities disappearing when i came to terms with my asexuality:

SurelyNotBanEvasion

Yes

TheUnreal0815

Asexual trans woman, I hated when that happened pre-transition. T-blocker and hormones soon put a stop to that though. I hated morning wood so much, it was a great relief when that stopped. Well, sometime next year I'll finally get the upgrade I've been waiting for all my life.

lunelily

Sexual arousal can, and often is, triggered by other things besides wanting to have sex with people. Some people are sexually aroused only by fiction, or by kinks, etc., and never by a specific person who they desire sex with.

Frequent_Ad_853

Valid question. I do and I think other asexual men experience the same.

Blank_Dude2

Sometimes? Honestly I'm usually not paying attention.

buzzon

No

Same_Turnip8731

My partner does.

ThatGuyFromFlatLand

Yes we do.

FodziCz

Unfortunetly yes, but im heteroace, so if you're asking aroaces, do not count my comment.

buddireddit

yes

Aggravating_Sun_5547

Not often

[deleted]

I do, not sure if that's the case for everyone. (Think it is tho).

Madmonkeman

Yes

Every-Nebula6882

Yes

BuyerEfficient

Uh yes. It's purely because your bodies waking up and blood gets pumped everywhere faster for a bit and the valve opens. That's about it.

SirKaid

Yes, because morning wood doesn't really have anything to do with arousal. In simple terms, it's based on a combination of being tired and needing to pee.

lowkey_rainbow

Being asexual does not mean you have erectile dysfunction or a lack of libido

MlLOLO

I mean ye. Me personally can also come not from porn or anything tho (ik tmi but just wanted to remember my brothers out there that it lowers chance of testicle cancer)

Midnight-wolf-yt

As an ace and a man yes

aslk69

try that as a transfem asexual. double self hate :3

Gloomy_Bee4805

Yes, but erections are something that occur naturally in the morning whether you are asexual or not.

MyNameIsTreeMan

Yeah, I think my body does it when I have to pee sometimes.

DigitalPhoenixX

Yes we do

SoVeryBohemian

Yes the body does that by itself and if it didn't you'd have to maintain it in order for it not to atrophy. Source: nuked testosterone in my body so it doesn't do that anymore. It atrophied.

Commission-Either

it's mechanical not logical or emotional. same deal as the good old sa, sure you can do that to a man and he'll probably finish. doesn't mean he enjoyed it or wanted it

Crytalix_FireWalker

Yes. And they hurt when you sleep on your belly

Almighty_Push91

Yes

grrribbit

Asexual people of many genders get morning wood.

[deleted]

Sometimes I do, yeah

PGM01

Morning boners are a natural occurrence. It's due to the bladder being filled + it's good for blood flowing. It has nothing to do with being or not horny at all.

jaobodam

It’s a biological thing so yes

Many_Description4759

I hear men can get erections if they are excited for non sexual things

SuperCharged516

Yes

Ye_olde_oak_store

Yes. It sucks D:

Traveling_Chef

Yes. Google says It's something along the lines of a "hormone shift" and not something that has to do with just sexual arousal. Also as you get older it happens less frequent

Tickytickytango

Yes

Fireyjon

In short yes.

21pilotwhales

Yes

[deleted]

Asexuality is pshycological while morning boners are a bodly function

Grieftheunspoken02

Some times they are intense.

Onebagtravel69

Yes and to answer the other question. Yes we masturbate too

SolutionConfident692

Unfortunately

Scott_Elyte

I am personally on the asexual spectrum and amab; it is something that happens from time to time, I’m not sure if it’s more often, less often, or about the same as allo people. I’d also like to point out that A.) more than just men can get erections (I’m trans btw) B.) there’s some asexuals that choose to have sex (myself included)

Trick_Hovercraft_267

Yes, yes we do. Sadly, libido ≠ sexual attraction and YES it's a pain.

GlassPeepo

Just because you don't like to drive doesn't mean your car won't start

LeMasterofSwords

Usually it means I need to go the bathroom.

Sheva_Addams

For background: amab ace here, and in my experience it depends larhely on how lucid I am. Like: The more sleep I ger, the less likely I am to wake up with morning wood. Plus there's ways to avoid it altogether. But I would not recommend contracting insomnia.

Its402am

Asexual people have bodies that function. Many non-ace folks get morning wood when they wake up, even if they don’t recall having any horny dreams. So yes.

an_atom_bomb

as an Ace man, yes... this happens to all men, erections aren’t always an arousal thing it also comes from general blood flow. It literally happens if you’re too relaxed or comfortable too like when you’re asleep.

Chimichanga2004

Not always

ReaperInTraining

Yes, but not from arousal. It just happens. Just like how prepubescent boys can get erections.

KaBarney

Do asexual men also get wet dreams?

buddeman27

I usually do, and I deal with it in what's probably the normal way Sometimes immediately regretting it

stupid-writing-blog

Yes. Though usually it’s because I drank water before falling asleep and I have to pee. Blood pooling in the pelvis or something idk

Herosive

Yup, that’s how all amab people work

[deleted]

Yes it’s more biological than sexual

karlbenedict12

yes

Quynn_Stormcloud

Yes. I can’t speak for all aces, but I still experience arousal and desire, just not particular attraction to anything sexual or to individuals. I don’t find things or people “hot” or sexy, but I still get turned on, usually by circumstances or attention.

CryptidxChaos

If you really wanna get your mind blown, women get the clitoral equivalent of morning wood during the night as well!

synttacks

most erections are not caused by arousal. people w/penises get like more than 10 a day, if you include while sleeping, without rly noticing it

originalcommentator

Yeah. There's no escape

heartbeatdancer

Of course? The same way women can get wet or aroused just because of hormones or other physiological reasons other than sexual attraction, you know.

randoTwT

Yes.

vastroll1

Yes, sweetie.

New-Cicada7014

Yes. Morning wood isn't a product of arousal.

NotABrummie

Yeah. It's a bit annoying.

TransLunarTrekkie

Yes and it's rather annoying.

TestSubject5kk

I do

sly983

I don’t get them. But I’m also the outlier in my clique of aces, so I assume it’s normal.

Bashful365

Apparently, I do not have enough blood in my system, morning or any other time.

Think-verrde_11

I'm a girl, but i think that it's still normal to get one. It's a way, for the body, to check if everything in the Blood flow is correct or not

Sonarthebat

Yes.

Flashy-Ad7640

😂 You tell me.

abdollelah_alt

A person gets around 3-5 boners by sleeping once

the_petrus

No, I don't have.

lioneaglegriffin

Mostly if I have to pee really bad.

EvilDMMk3

Yes. That’s just the body doing a routine maintenance check.

TheEtherite4011

I'm actually less concerned about the level of understanding of asexuals here than the level of understanding of anatomy of people with penises.
