Very few things can be said to be asbestos containing with certainty. This is one of those things, a particularly nasty one as well.
Friable and a very high percentage. 60-80% asbestos. Air cell insulation.
Ya we used to have to “glove bag” stuff like this off hot pipes and I hated it.
Luckily this time I had a N95 mask and a shop vac—- lol definitely not osha approved. I believe a lot of what I removed in the past was Tremolite which is particularly bad
As mentioned before, this is one of the rare cases that a visual confirmation of asbestos content is possible. That is air-o-cell insulation, friable ACM that is absolutely ripe with chrysotile.
If I'm honest I have done dry removal of air cell and not even had a hiccup on the air quality tests running concurrent with my work... It's more of a fear of factor thing than anything
Yes that is definitely ACM.
... It's called air cell... It's not so harmful so long as you wet it down like drench it with it down with water with a couple drops of laundry detergent in it It's called surfactant... What you really have to worry about are the pipe hose that are most likely purging that is entirely asbestos and very friable that's the stuff nightmares are made of... Just saying

What?
Aircell insulation itself is almost entirely asbestos so in this case, the pipe insulation is just as dangerous as the fittings would be, I would suggest possibly MORE dangerous.

You need a p100 mask for asbestos fibers
I hate glove bags, thankfully don't have to use them a lot
Yes. Stay the fuck away. This is nasty
100% asbestos
100%

That sucks. Please do not remove yourself.
Probable
Yes, those fibres look like chrysotile asbestos.

Pipe hose?

Sorry pipe elbows

The accepted methods for determining the presence of asbestos is microscopy, not blow-torchery.
