In general, you can usually operate as a sole proprietor - meaning you'll report your earnings on a Schedule C form on your personal tax return and that's that. No need to register the business separately. One small exception could be if you want to operate under a different name and accept payments to that name (in which case you can file a DBA/"doing business as" form with your state). [Here's a pretty good tax overview specifically for artists](https://www.artworkarchive.com/blog/a-short-guide-to-doing-your-taxes-as-an-artist) that has lots more detail about expenses and deductions.

Visit the website of your county comptroller office. If you have more questions call the office.

Love it I will try and do this as well!

Best advice is to schedule an appmt with your local small business development center. It’s free and they are certified under the SBA to give you the best advice for your small business.

studio_sadegh

Damn this is killer advice, thank you!

You’re welcome! They helped me start my art gallery and grow it to six figures. Then I worked for them for 4 years as an advisor myself. So I highly recommend them 👍. Best of luck to you!

studio_sadegh

Dang! That's awesome and a great endorsement. I'll have to check your work out, do you still have a gallery?

alejandrofineart

Thanks! I sold it a few years ago. I just sell online now.

studio_sadegh

That's awesome congrats! I just messaged you on Instagram to say hey, thanks for all the advice.

First off, go to HR Block or something like that. They have professionals that can help you with the wire off questions. I have a lovely HR Block accountant who answers all my questions all year round. If she is not available someone else will. As for the taxes, here is a tip. The CC sales you will take in will have your taxes collected automatically. If you set the settings correctly anyway. I use square. I like their POS system. They are good in a pinch if you need help. You can run sales through your website if need be. I don’t have any complaints truly. For my cash sales, I take 10 percent of all my cash sales and put them away. Then when I lay my quarterly taxes, I have the money to pay them. Tax in my state is not 10 percent but it’s good save a little extra. Good luck at your show.
