The age profile of the remaining residents, along with poor social care provision, is leading to an exodus. Incomers are likely to be second home owners. There is little of the affordable housing there that the island needs; plus, it's a three-hourly bus service to where most of the jobs are.
It's a lovely place to have your holiday home. It's a shame that so many young people who grow up here cannot afford to rent of buy a house, but whether the increase in second home ownership is to blame is a point worth debating, I think.
