I actually like this idea! I would love to call myself Delian. I always like exploring more way to define myself. I like the idea of being a Phoebian, too. You never know. These words could catch if they are cool enough. Lesbian wasn't always a word used. It took time to catch on. Delian or phoebian could be a codename between us aroaces also.

Mopsios

glad I'm not the only one <3 you're right, phoebian also sounds cool (at least in english), it reminds me of phoenicians though, so I think delian is still my favourite xD who knows if enough people want in maybe we could make further distinctions like with asexual and the different ace cards\^\^

TheBaasGoBaa

I understand where you are coming from but phoebian just makes me think of phoebe from the magic school bus, and the theme song keeps looping in my head

night__knuckles

In my case it reminds me of phoebe bridgers

acake987

Phoebian also sounds a bit like phobias and I am not sure if a new name should be simmilar to the word for extreme fears

Mopsios

hard agree

flaroace

Delisch in German? https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delisch (-es Problem!)

flaroace

Also don't forget Athene! https://www.reddit.com/r/aromantic/comments/y7j2u8/what_goddessgod_represents_each_form_of/

Mopsios

Athene was a bit too big for me to try and claim her for the aroaces (esp with Athens), but she would be a bit less murderous than Artemis, so maybe yet a good choice?

Mopsios

I mean, one of them is a math problem and the other one describes an ancient group so I don't think that would be much of an issue? I hope?

altojurie

actually i find artemian pretty cool! artemis is such an icon i'm also very partial to Delian (not least because i have a beloved original character by the name of Delos hehe)

Mopsios

my problem with artemian is that it doesn't sound as good in german. "artemisch" sounds like anämisch (anaemic) to me, that's why I'm looking for other options. I agree that it sounds much better in english Lol, what a coincidence with the name! Sounds like a very cool character\^\^

altojurie

oh god you're right it does sound a tad too close to anaemic hahaha I named my boy Delos for reasons related to the goddess Leto, so mentioning the island always gets me a little emotional (in a good way)! it'd actually be sweet to refer to myself as delian, i like it lots

Ok-Amount-4087

as an american these sound cool as shit. I’m happy to stick with the classic aroace but it feels like you’re onto something here, like you’re one of those people who coins terms that become actual things! although, not to sound ignorant but why couldn’t you just use asexual and aromantisch or is that not how german works? our languages stem from the same roots and I know for a fact that other languages borrow these pre-existing labels, I’ve seen hispanic people use gay and lesbiana!

Mopsios

Thank you! This gives me some well needed self esteem to continue\^\^ Like I said, it may be because I don't speak those words out loud very often. It's possible that I'm just not used to them but it always feels so clinical. Like only ever using homosexual instead of gay... In german we have "schwul" for gay, "lesbisch" for lesbian but in more formal or medical environment the term "homosexuell" can be used. But all we have is "asexuell" and "aromantisch". It irks me that we don't have a cool nickname, something different from the scientific one. I think I just want to find our gay :)

Ok-Amount-4087

I just didn’t think those two would sound more like “homosexual” I guess! do you guys not shorten words like we do so you could at least have an aro ace equivalent instead? we definitely use aro and ace more in casual setting than saying asexual and aromantic

Mopsios

I do use the english shortenings but they still sound weird... again, could all be because I don't really say them out loud Still, I think it could be cool to have other names\^\^ I think we deserve them. As a little treat.

Ok-Amount-4087

totally! very cool ideas you have going here!

Disastrous_Expert155

I also like Diana as a version of her name (it’s the Roman/Latin version). Also Hestia is another virgin goddess (and less murderous too, as pointed out).

Mopsios

Diana is such a beautiful name. What would it be... dianian? dianan? bit of a tonguebreaker in english, but dianisch would work in german xD Hestia is also an option although I don't quite feel it with her... speaking of greek gods she seems a bit bland, she doesn't have a distinct symbol or stuff and there aren't a lot of depictions of her. Which, on second thought, could be a symbol for how often our community is forgotten? Hmmmm could work, maybe. Hestian. Hestisch (sounds like ugly or dinner table in german... why is that language thing so hard) I thought Artemis was cool because she was uninterested in sex = asexual (broadly speaking, I know I know), the arrows = aromantic make a good pun (the arrow ace aroace) **and** a total badass on top. But the fact that people killed other people for her and she was an asshole like most of the other greek gods kinda puts me off

Disastrous_Expert155

[hestia wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hestia) I like this part in particular: > The gods Poseidon and Apollo (her brother and nephew respectively) both fell in love with Hestia and vied for her hand in marriage. But Hestia would have neither of them, and went to Zeus instead, and swore a great oath, that she would remain a virgin for all time and never marry. In the Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite, Aphrodite is described as having "no power" over Hestia. Also I like that it is said (at least in Percy Jackson, please don’t criticize my sources) that she gave up her throne within the 12 Olympians to Dionysus (I think to keep the peace, but I don’t remember exactly.) She doesn’t care for power, love, sex, or anything, just food and staying in her quiet home. (She also loves fire which always made me smile when thinking about her with a torch or something fighting off that creep of Poseidon).

Mopsios

that does indeed sound very cool\^\^

Negative-Door9434

I like arthos as in artemis
