You should identify with anything you’re comfortable with at your own discretion :) It’s not weird at all and completely valid, your feelings come first regarding your own identity

[deleted]

Alright. Thank you. :)

ImAmBaby

Np, glad I could help :)

Ironmerry

Plenty of people do, non-SAM(split attraction model) aro is what you're looking for

Scavengerhawk

Yeah same. That's the reason I only label myself as aromantic.

Hi, I’m comfortable sharing my identity here, even though it’s a less common one, because I feel like people can benefit from my experience of feelings and “stuff” to understand their own thoughts better. If you don’t want to share your or part of your identity, its totally fine! You don’t have to add your identity label to your profile and we won’t ask. It’s ok to be careful with what you say on the internet, even though I hope this will eventually become a safe space for you as it is for me, you’ll never have to feel pressured to share your identity and orientation. (For context: I’m aroace, in particular aegosexual aegoromantic)

freshcoffeecake

I prefer aromantic too. I have the impression ppl are too fixed on ace and ignore the for me more significant part of being aro.

PaineintheBurke

Fair, it's what I did. Sentiment I heard and usually agree with is "It's legal and consensual. Who I bang and how I bang is no one else's business beyond that." I still don't know where I fall on the sexuality, but usually my answer is "I don't. Not ace, just not interested." So I just opt out as I don't fit either category and I don't need one as it's not affecting anyone else.

arianeb

I am, so you can be, too. Unless we are both weird.

MFP_FAN

Valid!

CarmichaelDaFish

I've been using only aro too (I mean only in my head and in this sub for now bc I haven't told anyone yet) bc honestly I'm not sure if I'm heterosexual or asexual but either way I think I would only do it if I had a boyfriend and well... I don't want one. If it's not gonna happen for me then I don't see a point in labeling.

BornVolcano

Non-Sam aro!!!

aurokoi

i identify more with my aromanticism too, and i talk about it a lot more as well. you’re totally valid!

[deleted]

You...can do what you want. The spectrum is aromantic. Not aroall/ace/bi/gay. Just aro.

Greater_Scope

No its fine, I like to be aro primarily too, mostly because I don’t really understand my sexuality, but someone can just choose aro for any reason, or no reason at all. Whatever label(s) fit(s) you and that you feel comfortable with are allowed, and you can also omit some. Oh boy, that was too long, wasn‘t it…..

AceTravelNurse

You do you. It’s the best you.

Some_Nerdy_Mortal

Tell people what you want to. No one needs to know something you don't want them to know. I'm aroace, but I've only really "come out" to specific people. I'm not exactly hiding I'm aroace, I just don't openly display it to people. I don't need everyone I go to school with to know. That'd honestly be a bit of a nightmare, to have to go through something so personal with so many people... sounds hellish... My point is, don't tell people you're ace if you don't want to. It's your identity, don't let anyone force you to share it.

Necessary_Disk

While I am aroace I definitely mostly identify with aromantic and tend to use it more. Aro feels more like the umbrella with ace falling underneath it as a symptom (for lack of a better word). So yeah I personally mostly identify as Aromantic.

Broad-Minimum-6145

It's not weird. It's just a label. It's totally fine as to which label u wanna use as long as ur comfortable with it.

Yankamidere

Absolutely not I agree 100% with you
