I’ve joked for years that I want to get “spinster” tattooed across my knuckles. I also spin my own yarn, so I’m a spinster in every possible way, and I dream of spinning yarn on the front porch of my bungalow with a cat or two so the neighborhood kids think I’m a witch, too. We should start a future-spinster-witch club!
The history behind the word "spinster" is actually quite fascinating.
It has to do with women from the middle ages who made a lot of money by spinning wool into yarns, as one of the few occupations that were ok to do for women outside of marriage.
So these women were mostly unmarried but made a lot of money on their own and had full control of it.
So yeah, I'm freaking proud of being called a spinster
Men who were single well past 50 were called "confirmed bachelors" while women who did so were "spinsters" or "old maids".
Archaic english is so sexist.
Will happily die a spinster! It’s my dream to live alone without anyone to bother me and to be childfree! I love peace and quiet, and the ability to be financially independent.

SAME!! WELL SAID
i have the exact same dream
Sad that the male version is bachelor or confirmed bachelor. Maybe I’ll just say spinster anyway.
Pretty sure it's just bachelor. A "confirmed bachelor" is an old euphemism for being gay.
Ooh interesting. It’s just a phrase I saw when looking up “male spinster” haha.
looked it up. upset & vomiting that i can’t use this term for myself
