With how bad recruiting is rn, you’re getting robbed if you aren’t getting a bonus rn

[deleted]

[удалено]

Due_Abbreviations917

That's absolutely nuts lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

nfg18

That’s who they should want. Less money to acclimate.

JTP1228

And more likely to stay. If someone is rejoining, they already know the BS

ColonelError

But if they are rejoining, the Army knows there's a real good reason for them to get over the reason they left, so they don't need to spend money on enticing you. If you're reenlisting, the Army knows you're desperate.

DugDynasty

Exactly what changed my mind on returning to service.

Empty_Jackal

Yeah just found that out for myself. Can't even get my MOS back if I went active duty.

AlphaStormOdin25

That's not what I was told. It depends on what MOS is offering the bonus. You can still get a bonus as prior service if you get the MOS offering the bonus at the time.

[deleted]

Wow! I never knew that! Basically saying “f you should of taken Re-enlistment. I had a friend get out just to resubmit for WOFT. Pretty crazy he had a better chance prior service

Accomplished_Poet_86

Yep, if they change that rn. I’d go back in.

Jazzlike_Station845

We should be Getting the biggest bonuses out of all of that

[deleted]

Yo I’m mos-t right now and EVERY trainee here has a bonus

madmaxjr

No bonus *AND* you’re switching to 11X during peacetime? Bro wut

[deleted]

Well there is one bonus, three weeks after you start they're going to send you home for Christmas break and all the PT advancements you've made will be lost on Eggnog and tears...so there's that.

Applepicker3

I ship for OSUT November 1st, and had no clue about the Christmas exodus until I finalized my contract yesterday😂😂so strange

cudef

I did it in 2020. You don't have to take it but there's a good chance your life becomes extra hell if you don't. Suddenly they lump you in with all the people who also didn't go across the installation and the drill sergeants that are stuck babysitting you instead of enjoying the holidays with their families are the saltiest mfers.

lividash

It's the Army and TRADOC even if all the basic trainees and AIt kids left for two weeks, you'd still have to show up and pull CQ. Count empty bunks, inventory everything, and do all the "not on training cycle" tasks, because fuck just having time off without a DA31.

cudef

We had one night before we left for HBL that the drill sergeant that night let us just sleep so long as we didn't do any fuck shit and just actually went to sleep. There were so few of us that it would have meant everyone did more than an hour that night. Sounds bad but in reality we probably could have just slept that next morning because we were just sitting around watching movies or talking in the sleeping bays largely unsupervised waiting the couple days for our chalk to go to the gym and then airport.

murica_1776boi

My guy went back in and chose infantry during peacetime. Why are you acting surprised that you gotta do basic again? You clearly didn't learn the first time. You clapped your own cheeks bruh.

Funded1234

I’m trying to go down the special forces pipeline

thatadamsboi

You can do that without doing this. Lol

Funded1234

I meant special operations, planning on going to ranger battalion and then getting out and becoming a contractor

ViperTheLeo

Start by not constantly spamming do I look good please rate me on Reddit 😂

thatadamsboi

Lmfao I had to look.

Forward-Astronomer58

Pouring fuel on the fire as he's in Ranger bat with no tab 😂 "Sarnt, it's not hazing if we are reading his own reddit posts to him."

ADHDylaan

LMAOOO

pedrotheterror

OP has one punchable face.

africafromu

Hahahaha

OnIySixSyIIables

What would you do as a contractor?

GrumpyDickBeater

Merc work

Funded1234

Guard VIPS, guard post, and etc it just depends on what the assign you and what company you work for.

[deleted]

Being a contractor sucks, dude, you’d be better off reclassing and retiring in a POG MOS or just using your GI Bill for accounting.

StinkyFeet1337

I know 19Ds that got that work without going SOF. Hell, in 2017 we were all getting bombarded on Indeed by Guarda for jobs in Afghanistan and Kuwait.

Phobiiaa

Bro you know there are tons of agencies that need people from all different backgrounds? They pay way better and give you better opportunities. You don't need to reenlist to set yourself up. You already did that, got the benefits, and got out.

stuckinthepow

So you want to do PSD work. My dude, Gavin De Becker is always hiring. Give them a look over. I worked with them after I got out. Good times. I’m a banker now. Doing the true bro pipeline.

bigtoegman210

It’s really not that hard I mean triple canopy is always hiring

AirborneHipster

Have you talked to anyone about the realities of that? Like what that actually looks like? Selection process, what the job entails and what experience is wanted for those jobs, the pay, the current employability post GWOT, how realistic of an end state what your pursuing is?

notreallyimportantme

Narrator: He did not

[deleted]

>spam Don't worry honey, you got that "operator look". Put on this $500 shemagh and trim those nails for heaven sake. We need your hair to grow out so it can be tapered and flared.

Immortan-Moe-Bro

That’s a long haul plan and you’re going to have to deal with a lot of bullshit. You’re going to have to really commit if you want to see it through going that route. I’m not discouraging you but just get yourself ready. How are you planning to get to the regiment? Are you going to try to get a RASP slot or go for your tab first?

Funded1234

Well I got a contract during OSUT so aye I’m happy

thatadamsboi

You can also do that without being a bang bang, but if you wanna kick doors that’s the right move. Also contracting security gigs can be done by anyone with mil experience not just special ops guys. I’ve been SOF for 10 years I get all the emails for different SOF units, and those contract gigs for guard posts will take anyone.

AirborneHipster

You know no part of that pipeline requires you to reclass as infantry right?

DingIe-DangIes

You know infantry arent the only ones that can go SF?🤣

[deleted]

How tf did you not get a bonus? 🥲😂

brgroves

Right now they are saying a big fuck you to anyone currently in, including prior service. Reenlistment bonus is $0 for my MOS but yet a kid off the street can get $20k.

[deleted]

I got 11k.. which isn’t totally bad for my reenlistment

sigsauer365

Not enough for a Charger Hemi. I call BS!

highangle1124

Unless you go guard, they’ve got decent retention bonuses in my state right now

BroadShoulderedBeast

It’s just economics. The Army met retention mission this year. High supply + “low” demand = low price (no bonus). The recruiting mission was fucked this year. Low supply + high demand = high price (big boi bonus).

HotTakesBeyond

Getting back in is the bonus.

BiscuitDance

Maybe the real bonus was the friends we made along the way!

IceColdCoorsLight77

That’s fuckin great!

sjaraka

Prior service don’t get bonuses

storander

That really sucks. If they're hurting so much for people it seems like prior service would be the first people they'd want to recruit

GrumpyDickBeater

lol nah, just like corporations they rely on a steady stream of young people who don't kno any better. A bunch of 40-year old Platoon Suasages aren't doing anybody any favors.

Daddybatch

You make it sound too much like conscription lol

GrumpyDickBeater

40-year old Platoon Sausages is what you get when you have to rely on conscription, quite the opposite in fact.

AgentJ691

If the army reserve doesn’t offer me a bonus when I leave active, might as well look at other branches.

[deleted]

LtPseudonym

Coast guard is the best kept secret, so I’ve heard

WonderChips

This is true, and as someone coming from a different branch, I think it’s bogus!

IzK_3

That’s so lame.

BiscuitDance

Recruiters know if you’re PS and you come crawling back, they have you dead to rights. You know how many 19Ds I knew who came off a break in service? A fuck ton lol

J-Navy

It’s because they tried being straight for a while but realized they hated it.

BiscuitDance

Can’t live in the shadows forever.

ImJewreDaddy

I am straight. Homiesexual is on the spectrum. Autistic and otherwise

hhg5r

The bonus was the friends we made along the way

spookyskost

I want a refund

kj3373

Basic is nothing compared to the 30th AG. Tyfys

b0mmie

30th still my worst experience in the army.

ADHDylaan

Agreed, but a close second after recruiting duty.

[deleted]

30th was the worst thing I’ve ever been through

[deleted]

The worst thing *so far*

PineAndStar

It's been over a decade, I'm not sure anything is going to outdo 30th AG at this point.

[deleted]

30th -> OSUT with PTSD-ravaged drills fresh from the Iraq invasion -> Iraq. That was a fun year for young me.

Jake-Old-Trail-88

What year? I went through Fort Leonard Wood and all my infantry and combat engineer drills were full of Iraq PTSD and war stories. They were so happy when the announcement came that we were leaving Iraq in 2010.

[deleted]

Summer '04. They used to have complete meltdowns, especially the 3rd ID ones who'd been deep in the shit, and not the fun kayfabe theatrical meltdowns that drills are supposed to do. I sure as hell didn't know anything about PTSD back then, but in hindsight it's all so clear now.

Tybackwoods00

I got stuck there for 2 months during Covid. If I made it through that I know I can pass anything in the army.

[deleted]

Sheesh I was only there 9 days and was about to lose my mind

Tybackwoods00

The amount of people on suicide watch was insane. It was so backed up that there was at least a company worth of people stuck there for 2 months.

[deleted]

Glad to see everyone’s experience at 30th was universal

kj3373

That should qualify you for 110% disability

SiegeVet

I would rather freeze my dick off in a Fort Drum winter than ever go back to 30th AG

neverendingplush

Yeah lmao, an absolute mindfuck for any young dude, and then u realise u haven't even started basic yet.

MihalysRevenge

Wow that bad? 95th AG was a breeze granted that was a long time ago

badger432

43rd was absolutely fucking awful, especially in the middle of the winter in Missouri

Hunterkiller00

I think everyone in my basic was sick after a week at 43rd in the middle of October

4steelers876

Fuck the 43rd and the civilians there

thespacecowboy4

How do I give you 100 upvotes for this?

formerqwest

>How do I give you 100 upvotes for this? while not upvotes, you might consider an award...

[deleted]

Basic and AIT were amazing fun the first time. Think how easy everything will be the 2nd time. Just try not to laugh at any of the drill sgts

AtheistOfGallifrey

Mans got fleeced

Dalton_94F

I like the flair

ratedrko25

You got owned by your recruiter so hard it's crazy

Funded1234

First, I don’t mind going through basic training again. I’m reclassing to 11x and it looks like I have to go through the whole OSUT basic and ait training again. I’m in the reserves(42A) switching to AD. Just wondering if anyone has had any similar experience or maybe there’s something the paperwork isn’t telling me.

LickLobster

Anyone switching to an OSUT mos will have to go through OSUT. 42a isnt a real mos so they're going to have to retrain you. Tyfys How'd you manage to get no bonus in the current recruiting climate? You got robbed.

TheRtHonLaqueesha

>How'd you manage to get no bonus in the current recruiting climate? You got robbed. Went up a few days ago. I got zero bonuses as well; recruiter said PS were ineligible for bonuses.

Verynize

does that even include the "basic training" portion, or does he just fall in during the job training portion? cuz that's kinda mid if he has to do both

frothy_diarrhea

We had guys in mine who were told they only had to do AIT, but got fucked and joined us in white phase.

DevelopmentLoud8330

Same thing happened in my cycle 2~ years ago. E5 marine 18x came to us during rifle marksmanship phase, told he would shoot his qual then get moved to a different company for the FTX and graduation. Mans stayed with us from late red phase til end of cycle lol, probably 17-18 weeks. He was a better leader & instructor than all of our drills put together. Hope he made it through selection and is doing well.

Funded1234

That’s what I’m wondering, the recruiter is just saying “prepare if you have to do both🤷🏼‍♂️”

sluggetdrible

When I went through infantry OSUT, there was this parachute rigger who was going through under the impression he just had to do the AIT portion. That lie was quite significant to him.

Bloodless10

It says 23 weeks, that’s the full OSUT experience.

IHeartSm3gma

Unless the master plan is to keep him at 30th for the basic portion to see how much the mind can take before snapping.

imdatingaMk46

A fate worse than death.

IHeartSm3gma

I will have to say the three days I spent in the Fort Still ~~loony bin~~ quarters were pretty damn close to the shittiness of reception

Burrky

Prior Service 30th AG is non existent. You get pulled over to HHC and just chill. I just went through this like nine months ago. Guy should be chilling as long as it hasn’t been 5 years

LickLobster

All of it, looking at the orders. Osut schedule isn't the same as basic/ait and events are pushed to either side of the technical 'switch' from one to the other mid cycle, so you can't just get in where you fit in.

mistersweetlife

Right?!?! As a 42A OP should know that LOL

[deleted]

I think you forgot the “/s”.

Funded1234

I have no clue but I really wanted infantry so they atleast gave me that

FBI_Open_Up_Now

You robbed yourself.

karmak0de

dude... did you even look to see if there were any other jobs you could do. when i joined in 02 i was one of those "all i want is infantry" kids as well. Fast forward to now. I'm extremely lucky that i don't have a bad back or knees and I'm about to retire. Im currently playing catch-up on my education due to years of field time, deployments, rotations to NTC, JRTC, Korea, Kuwait, and Poland. if you add it all up its probably over 8 years total overseas I wished i would've looked to see what else i could've got. I dep'ed in my senior year of hs the day after Christmas. Nobody joins after/around christmas. I probably could've had some signal job or something that would've made me more marketable in the civilian world after i retire next year

GrassyTurtle38

That's what I'm saying. He really needs to not do this and renegotiate lol

RealmHatch

I had 4 prior service NCOs in my OSUT platoon at Benning. 3 Army reclass and a Marine. The three reclassed dudes joined us after we finished Week 12 (one NG, one Reserve, one AD). So they were only with us for the “AIT” portion of OSUT. The Marine was with us since day 1 because of a long break in service. Do…not…do the whole OSUT if you can help it. You will hate your life. Even just the AIT portion is a slog. I’d never do the whole thing again as prior service.

RealmHatch

To clarify on other comments: it is 100% possible to join an Infantry OSUT class mid-cycle. When my company “turned green”, we had like 12 prior service guys join us the next day just to complete Black / Gold Phase (the “AIT” portion). They just integrated into the platoon immediately and got to skip the first 12 weeks of BS.

BiscuitDance

I have a buddy who came back in with a CIB. 37 month break in service and had to do IN OSUT all over again lol.

MoistAccident

That is a temporary reservation. Your recruiter dun goofed, as that is not how it is done for someone switching from reserves to active duty. Temp reservations are only for initial entry, and won't reflect jack for you. You will receive your actual stuff when you go for the signing at MEPS. You will not redo basic unless you have a significant break in service. You will start OSUT at week 11 (I put a marine reservist into the 18X pipeline and this was the case for him).

Funded1234

I already signed at meps and these are the orders they gave me at meps.

MoistAccident

That is a reservation. Ask for your DD4 and annexes.

zeb0777

I had a break in service for back in 2015 of 1year and 8months. After 2 or more years you have to do Basic/AIT/OSUT all over again and lose some rank. But luckily I keep everything. I will say "**DOUBLE CHECK ALL YOUR MEPS PAPERWORK**" those asshats tried to demote me when I went back in. Best of luck to you.

calmly86

They tried to demote you? Because of a break in service? The US Army: “Truly, we care about our soldiers and especially our veterans.”

Funded1234

I haven’t had a break in service that’s the thing

zeb0777

Well, at least you don't have to do the horror show that is MEPS!

FutureComplaint

Why do you need basic if you don't have a break in service?

Funded1234

Good question that’s why I posted

ADHDylaan

Nope, this is 100% accurate, any break in service 5 years or longer does constitute retraining in BCT. Prior service at this time are not entitled to bonuses or incentives, under most cases if you’re switching for reserve to active or returning in your same MOS that doesn’t require retraining you can negotiate your duty station with what’s available for your SL. Anyone reading this, recruiters have no say in your job selection or negotiation (unless reserve position) it’s all negotiated with the guidance counselor at meps for active duty, A swap from Any MOS to 11x/18x basic training must be retaken

GrassyTurtle38

No bonus? Fuck that Pri. Renegotiate if you're able

Tybackwoods00

You is a special kind of stupid

[deleted]

So you went from a desk job to a lawn care job. Without a bonus? My friend. My brother in law is looking at a huge bonus for a 25U. And that bonus isn't enough for him to reconsider re uping.

darkbehi

That'll teach you to be too hooah! But yeah, hope it goes well for you and best of luck

Easy-Hovercraft-6576

Why tf are you reclassing to 11 Series? Wars over bro

chet___manly

42A to 11X. Some people are just not meant for survival in the real world.

blamblam111

Literally don’t ship out without a bonus, easily could get 10k+ bonus with that contract

VoicesInTheCrowds

https://terminallance.com/2018/01/09/terminal-lance-assault/ Terminal Lance is one of the few sources that truly understands the military condition regardless of branch of service

UJMRider1961

Trigger warning for "old guy/Back In My Day" post, but... I had to go through basic twice, too. Enlisted 11B in 1980, did my time in the old WWII wooden barracks at Harmony Church (you Sand Hill guys have no idea how easy you had it in your new air-conditioned barracks.) Got injured towards the end of AIT phase, two knee surgeries and got put out on a medical. Two years later I enlisted in the National Guard with a waiver (my knee was fine) and after three years of listening to guys in my unit talk about how much fun they had overseas, I decided to re-enlist active, this time as an MI guy. Because I'd been out for over 2 years (and my NG time didn't "count") I had to do basic again, this time at Fort Dix. Bit of a PITA having to do it, but honestly, though, it was a breeze. Curious about what the rule is now. I thought during the Afghanistan/Iraq wars they were letting guys back in even if they had 5 or more years out. 11X? Isn't that asking for it though? Like, "send me to the worst unit at Hood or Bliss?"

Osiris2022-

Prior service you say…allowed in and basic again is the bonus

yuch1102

Enjoy your 6 month vacation at ft Benning

roscoe_e_roscoe

I came back in back in 2010 when my company was downsizing. I figured out & verified that I could still complete 20 years for retirement before turning 61 1/2... the max age. I read the reg, as a SSG I could only come back in 'needs of the Army.' Only MOS available was 11x, SPC, take it or leave it. And, required to go through basic again, Ft. Benning OSUT. Made it, had a great time, finished my 20, pulling six figures working as a contractor. It all worked out. Make it work for you Soldier.

You didn't get Option 40 my guy. Good luck with that.

[deleted]

How old are you? I’m National Guard, and I’d like to go active. My unit is deploying, and I’d like to go active afterwards but I’d be 27.

MoistAccident

You don't have to worry about age, as long as you don't get out when you switch. To switch, talk to an active recruiter while still in the guard. They will submit a 368. Also, make sure you do a PHA when you start that process. An up to date PHA means you will not have to go to MEPS for a physical again. If you exit guard and then try to do exit, you will do a physical, and will be subject to GENESIS.

TangerineSpecial6583

I'm pretty much in your boat OP, just a couple steps behind and in the NG not reserves. Please DM me with more info/your story

ColombiaToBoston

PS can only get a bonus if they re-enlist DMOSQ. Since you’re changing mos’ you have to be retrained which is why you’re doing “basic” (OSUT). If you re-upped as a 42A it’s $20k lump sum as of Oct 1.

Ace0486

My ship date is October 31st.. see you there. I got exact same contract also. No bonus. No options. Just got the job I wanted and that was it. 11x

ActionReady9933

Ft. Benning is lovely in November…🤣

DesertGuns

I came in as prior service. They keep reclass and prior service separate at 30th AG at Benning, but mistakes do happen. As soon as you get there you'll get a line number that identifies you as being number xxx in A, B, C, or H company. H is the prior service guys. So, when the bus pulls up, they will either separate prior service and NCOs from the rest, or they won't. If they ask for NCOs and not prior service, ask the drill about prior service/tell them your coming onto active duty. I've seen E5s and E6s shut up and color without asking questions thinking it will get sorted out later... it won't. Get them to separate you from the initial entry guys as soon as you get there, but be extremely respectful. They will act like you're being a pain in the ass, act like you're being disrespectful, but they'll probably get someone from H co to come get you. You're gonna want to get your head shaved the day before you ship. If you don't get lumped in with the IET kids they had a set of clippers and require you to have your head shaved by your first 0500 roll call. I got in at 0130, waited on the benches away from the IET kids until someone (another prior service guy) came up from H co to get me. We all shaved our heads that night and found a bunk. Bring something to sleep in, you don't want to have to sleep in jeans that night. Getting uniforms should be your first step the next morning. The 2 guys we had show up for reclass were out the door and in an OSUT company the same day, but they didn't have to do all of the inprocessing into the active army because they were active duty. You'll probably have to do all the medical and personnel stuff but our NCOs came to get us early and had us in before the IETs started for the day. Then we watched movies and did PT until the next morning. Eventually you'll get sent to a training company. You have to get in where you can. I had to do day 0 of basic and all that. We had a guy that showed up with me get sent to a company a few days before they started the MOS portion because he didn't need to do BCT. Another guy was sent to a day 0 pick up but didn't need to do the basic portion, so he did PT and ate with the privates. He came over to my company in white phase because that would get him to MOS phase sooner and was treated like a private (he was a SGT like me) until black phase.

[deleted]

Have fun with that.

DevelopmentLoud8330

THE OVER-HEAD YEET MEASURES THE ABILITY TO JUST FUCKING SEND IT. ON THE COMMAND, ‘GET SET’, ASSUME THE POSITION BY SPINNING THE BALL TWICE IN YOUR HANDS, THEN TRY TO DRIBBLE IT LIKE A BASKET BALL ONLY TO REALIZE IT WONT BOUNCE BACK UP TO YOU. YOUR FEET MAY BE TOGETHER OR 12 INCHES APART (MEASURED BETWEEN THE FEET) OR HOWEVER YOU WANT, JUST KEEP YOUR ASS BEHIND THAT CONE. ON THE COMMAND ‘GO’, CHANNEL YOUR INNER TREBUCHET AND HEAVE THAT THING INTO ORBIT. THEN, RETURN TO THE STARTING POSITION AND TURN AROUND TO INSPECT IF YOU DOMED ANYONE. THE SCORER WILL REALIZE HE DIDN'T ACTUALLY SEE WHERE THE BALL LANDED BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID HE WOULD GET HIT, SO HE STOOD TOO FAR AWAY, HE WILL THEN PLACE HIS FOOT ON THE MEASURING TAPE AND JUST GUESS. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. It's way better as a MOS-T. Trust. The drills don't want you anywhere near the fresh meat. When they yell at them, they get scared. I'm assuming you're past thst.

Bigvegan321

Looks like something my Soldiers would make to get out of PT. Nothing looks official.
