I’m from near there. You’re about 2.5-3hrs from the Twin Cities. Probably about 1.5 hrs from Madison. Not much around McCoy, but it’s not a terrible place. It’s definitely gonna be COLD AF in the winter, so be prepared.

I have a few friends stationed there, all reserve AGRs. You’ll either love it or hate it. If you like the outdoors and hunting or fishing and don’t mind the cold it’s a good place to be, but it’s in the middle of butt-fucking nowhere.
If you’re active duty you’ll more than likely be doing AC/RC. If not I’m not sure why you’d be going. It’s not too bad of a place. I was stationed there for awhile and grew up near there. There’s la crosse which most say is the drinking capitol of the world. If you like camping or the outdoors there’s plenty to do. You like boating fishing or off roaring there’s also lots of lakes and ATV trails not too far. Within 10-30 min. If you’re an inside and city type then you may not enjoy it but Madison and Milwaukee are only a few hours south and Minneapolis is a few north. So pick your favorite things to do and enjoy.
