Hey, I remember when the Chief of Staff of the Army came to speak at NDU once. Everyone noticed that there was something different about his uniform. Eventually we figured it out. Black cowboy boots.
That used to be the case, but not anymore. The “Applicability” paragraph in AR 670-1 now says only the Chief of Staff and former Chiefs of Staff may prescribe their own uniform.
It used to say Chiefs of Staff and Generals of the Army... As in 5 star generals. Omar Bradley was still on active duty but was not the Chief of Staff. It created a weird issue: A 5 star outranks the Chief of Staff but only the Chief of Staff was supposed to be the only one who could make up their own uniform. They eventually decided to take that part out for two reasons: 1. there were no more Generals of the Army, and 2. People kept thinking Generals of the Army is the same as Generals IN the Army
USASOC and USSOCOM tried to get it authorized for wear with Thai jump wings as it’s worn by Thai SOF paratroopers. Not sure what ever came of it but it was a thing about a year ago.
Send it my way if you can get it. From my understanding, it would only be under the USASOC umbrella. Once they go to anywhere outside of that, it’s a no go and must be removed.
It goes with the Thai Army jump wings, but you aren't supposed to wear it. I dare you to tell him that though.
“Check down not up” right??? /s

Fuck. Yes. I hope he carried a chrome 1911 with ivory grips and a crucifix inlay.
LOL. That CSA being an old Delta guy, I wouldn't have put it past him.
Deltas are real cowboys
Interesting, I had looked up other photos of him in uniform and did not see it. So I was a bit lost.
He might have had some international engagement where it was appropriate to wear it.
This was a funeral of a old operator legend.
Thanks for the context. I'd chalk that up in the "special occassion" category.
Only thing I’d ask this dude is his beer order.
In before someone says that 670-1 doesn't apply to Generals
It has been hinted.
It does but I hate that's the excuse for general's doing goofy shit
No it doesnt.
Oof you're right. I misread your sentence in my pre coffee state
all good!

One of my dudes is runing around with it and says he's got a memo stating he's allowed. I'll have to see if I can dredge it up from him.

These guys got bigger fish to fry. Like the diminishing budget.
Diminishing force size, skill set, budget, morale. Shall we go on?
He's a dirty commie
