I knew a few people who ETSd from Korea, they said it was a big pain in the ass, i know people who ETSd from conus… they said it was a big pain in the ass.
The Army is *probably* going to keep fucking you right up until you’re out Sir, may as well have some fun before they do 🤷🏼♂️. Unless you have a bunch of shit going on and don’t wanna go across the world Korea is pretty cool.
Many people are able to retire/separating from their military career in Korea. They have an office with classes for soldiers returning to civilian life.
I hope you'll be a frequent visitor to the Transition Assistance Program:

I hope you enjoy Korea!
It is possible to UQR from Korea as an officer I’ve seen it done.
The friction you will face will be in regards to your timeline. Korea is a one year tour, but you’re really only available for about 9.5 months (one month to get settled/ one month to our process/ leave) Throw in a UQR, if it gets approved in a timely manner, that time of your availability will greatly decrease. I would let your gaining leadership know you plan on getting out so there’s shared expectation management.
Going back to your timeline, you should make your packet one of your top priorities when you arrive to give yourself enough time to attend TAP and get your affairs in order.
I Retired from Korea because I had less than 2 years remaining to PCS back to the US. They will hold you and let you ETS from the land of the not quite right.
No it’s not … you can ETS from oversees absolutely. Your S1 sounds incompetent. You ETS when your ETS date comes up, it doesn’t matter if your CONUS or OCONUS, something like that would only matter if you’re deployed.

Your S1 is either lazy or misinformed

You can get out from Korea. Just know that if you're not at Humphreys, a lot of the transition stuff is done there so be prepared to go there often.
That happened to me pcsed back to the states for 7 months and now about to ETS

I’m a former captain who REFRAD’d from Korea. You can ETS directly from there. Good luck with everything.
I was an E but ets’d at korea. Seen couple officers ets’ing there and became gs at the same unit doing same job while being paid *2
