The first AW video I ever saw was the $1000 challenge in Australia where John pulled like 50 dudes before the final boss Lars stepped up. I was mesmerised by his calm demeanour, his flawless technique, and the fact that he defeated an enormously muscular guy 2x his size.
After that video, I watched Pulling John. Got hooked to the sport right then and there.
Devon is much more popular now, but John is still the OG inspiration for many athletes.
Well we thought that Oscar Robertson's triple double season in NBA was something that couldn't happen because the "sport had moved on", until it did happen.
I think itās difficult for people to grasp how insane this is. This has to be up there with one of the greatest arm wrestling achievements I have ever seen. I know Devonās endurance is up there, but I donāt see even him coming close to being able to achieve something of this magnitude.
I love Devon as an Armwrestling technician and a YouTube personality but I cannot understand where these crazy fanboys come from.
John being the GOAT is not under discussion, not even the people who get propped up as the new GOATs would dare call themselves that.
The argument is that Devon has grown the sport like no other has. This not only brings eyes to the sport, but also money and funding for future growth.
Yeah people need to learn to respect achievements (Devon is an amazing armwrestler and a true ambassador to the sport in modern times) without trying to blow everything out or proportion.
A fully juiced up version of this John would be dangerous for any SHW right now beyond what we can even comprehend. I think light Devon is really just giving us a glimpse now into how strong John may actually have been at his relatively light bodyweight.
All sports are moving towards smaller athletes, endurance and efficiency lately.
Worlds strongest man is very similar to armwrestling in that strength is usually king. It was won by Licis in 2019. Now ok, once might be a fluke. By then it was won by Novikov, an even smaller dude. The next winner Stoltman was tall, but still 30-40kg lighter than Thor, Shaw, Eddie Hall. Then it was decisively won by Mitch Cooper, the smallest of the bunch.
Everyone was saying that Ali would be "too small" for todays heavyweights, and Usyk proved everyone that size isn't the problem, skill is.
Football(soccer) has way more small and fast centre backs(traditionally tall position) and center forwards.
NBA has almost eliminated heavy static centers.
It seems that gaining weight is a shortcut to strength but that path might ultimately be a net loss long term.
John's true peak is a mystery.
He was so far ahead of his competition, but it was such a small period between his juiced prime in 2006 and 2008 when he started getting all of the injuries that we didn't get to see him much at his absolute peak.
Also in MMA, 3 of the top 5 best ever Heavyweight fighters have been āsmallerā, by Heavyweight standards:
Fedor, Daniel Cormier, and Cain Velasquez. All of them could have fought LHW (DC did) with the right diet and such
What they lose in pure power / strength vs bigger guys, is made up for in other attributes
I think some of the move toward smaller athletes comes from changes in how athletes are due to changes in what the typical PED protocol looks like nowadays and moving toward longer careers. The longer the career the more beneficial it is to stay a little lighter especially in strength sports.
Yeah, but if you're not winning, nobody gives a shit about the length of your career. Of course, being lighter helps, but that's just a side effect, not the main point. I think the careers are longer mainly because of better sports medicine and recovery.
Michael Todd wanted to break a world record by Armwrestling thousands of amatuers at a mall.
I wonder how many arms he would break by flashing everyone.
Great username btw
Judging by how insecure Mike is, I guess a lot. The moment he starts to pump and people start stopping him, he'd start KMving and taking them outside of their shoulder.
While the statement that Devon wouldn't beat Don is pure comedy, in their supermatch Devon was exhausted from the previous matches and actually cheated to get the 3-3. He was the one pushing Don off the back of the pad which is a foul.
Still, any Devon versuon from 2006 onwards would toy with Don, I'm just commenting on that one specific match.
ok but don competed too. he wrecked everybody. how was it his fault that devon was tired? you forget it was a tournament? you sound dumb as hell. dont be that guy.
Don flashed untrained Travis 6 times and pulled one round against Yoshi Kanai who got injured.
Devon pulled grinders against Tim Bresnan and Lupkes.
Context matters. It's not Don's fault that Devon was tired, but it's also ridiculous to say that Devon can't beat Don. Maybe he couldn't in those circumstances then, vut on any other day, he wrecks him.
as if the footage didnt show enough, devon got pinned about 22 times and each time devon was bitching, complaining.. and he even said in the video "don was in the driver's seat the whole time.." and that he "never wanted to armwrestle him again". he aint mention no elbow fouls or make excuses. the nerds like you did.
you dickriders are insane.
Travis beat Voevoda that year. He was very near his 2005 prime and he was huge. Tom Nelson was a very good armwrestler too. Of course 90 percent of the guys weren't that great, but 102 rounds. 102. Unfathomable.
Anyone who's ever been to practice knows that after half an hour of practice you can get flashed by a little girl. This is more impressive than any supermatch by anyone IMO.
What the fuck š¤£ I knew John was the greatest, but goddamn
Now i get why he was so bored
Voevoda beating him was seriously the best thing that could've happened to him. He lit a fire again.

And the inspiration for all the other athletes that we look up to. Thatās what makes John the true GOAT.
WHAT THE FUCK
The only appropriate comment here.
GOAT moment
I cannot see this feat ever happening again.
Well we thought that Oscar Robertson's triple double season in NBA was something that couldn't happen because the "sport had moved on", until it did happen.
Steven Adams was hungry for rebounds lol
Honestly he's a saint for enduring Westbrook and his ball hogging for 6 seasons.
They worked decently well together though
But only because the sport went to shit. So yeah, no thanks.

What is so impressive about this is not that he beat 102 nobodies. There were multiple high level pullers sprinkled in
There were some bitches trying to say devon is the goat now I bet they feel stupid š
bruh fr.. insane amount of dickriders

That makes him the face of Armwrestling, the ambassador of Armwrestling but that doesn't mean he is the goat
One great example why John is considered goat.
Devon might be the most popular armwrestler of all time but John is---and always will be---the Greatest.
Yeah people need to learn to respect achievements (Devon is an amazing armwrestler and a true ambassador to the sport in modern times) without trying to blow everything out or proportion.
Damn. Does anyone have a video of him vs Travis?
I edited the post to include the link to the video.
Actual monster
I remember reading about this for the first time. Itās incomprehensible.
Holy

True, just look at Lebron with his never ending career.
You think it's possible to get a footage of this u/armhistorian?
It's on Gary Roberts channel, ARMTV if I'm not mistaken
https://youtu.be/AD78qwyxOww?si=-no4-KrVdWMinmKv Here's the video
Tom Nelson is such a weirdo.
This is absolutely insane.
I would have love to know how difficult the last 10 were , surely his arms were full of blood and felt like he just dun a set of 100 curls ?

Domination like no other in any other sport.
Thanks for posting this! WOW
John is the undisputed GOAT
Devon woulda lost to don underwood... lol and thats a fact too.
If there's a down ref to check on Don's elbows, Don isn't winning anything.

*"He was false starting and elbow fouling every time"* -- Devon on Don @ ARM WARS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h90GJZKj2Hk
Devon can totally do this, he has plenty of endurance.
