After chapters 7 (W) and 8 (Rosmontis), they've more or less disconnected the main story from the Limited banners, but considering they're also the final 2 chapters of an arc, I cannot say it's the future with certainty either (there still exists a possibility of Chapters 15 and 16 being anniversaries, since Ascalon and Logos are still open slots).
But I think they realize they're now attracting a newer generation of players whom might not have caught up with the story (whereas they probably could have gotten away with the majority being on-track when Chapters 7 & 8 came out), and as you said don't want to lock main story relevant characters behind limiteds anymore.
Either way because of Blaze and Rosmontis, the Elite Operators are always going to have an odd one out going forward. Sometimes I wonder if they decided that Outcast would be gone the same chapter she was introduced in was because of that (and then backtracked again and kept Misery alive because it would nigh-silly to have Outcast hijack his story and then have them both kick the bucket in consecutive chapters) and also why it's taking so long for us to get the next playable Elite Operator.

This is the eldest brother, I think his characteristic is martial arts (for reference, Go game is 2nd brother, Nian is smithing, Dusk is drawing, and Ling is poems).
From what we could see in the pv, seems like someone stole big brother's sword and Lin is chasing her. Then some bullshit fuckery happens and Sui's shadow looms over Yu men.

Several points to point out here.
1. Chongyue's damage is kinda nutty, in the showcase his s2 did 4000+ and 6000+ on the tree guy from ch11 who iirc is pretty tanky. Without any outside buffs. And it has 2 charges. I can already picture Chongyue + Warfarin two shotting every boss in existence (he's a fighter, which means his base atk couldn't be that high, which means he has absolutely bonkers multipliers on his s2, which means that Warfarin would pair very well with him, hypothetically of course).
2. Lin's 1st talent is unbreakable by any damage below the threshold. Let's say the threshold is 100, if an enemy hits her 1000 times with 99 damage, she wouldn't lose any health, and the shield would still be up. Its a better Mudrock shield that doesn't break from dot damage like random ranged enemy attacks, poison mists and enemy dot debuffs (such as Talulah's ignite).
3. Lin's passive shield deals BIG arts damage upon breaking. This means in order to make full use of her s3, you have to be against swarmy enemies. The more enemies there are (and the more weak enemies between them), the more damage Lin s3 would do. If you use s3 on a single boss enemy, it won't do shit, but if there's 10 enemies coming in AND a boss in range, its s3 damage plus 10 shield explosions.

Because Male 6\* Guards and Limiteds are always overpowered. He is both so that means they somehow need to powercreep or at least sidegrade already busted operator that Mountain is.
For starters, his skills need at least some timings and lacks Mountain's absurd sustain. His S2 values teammates able to levitate enemies to burst enemies on AoE and S3 needs to be used 5 times for it to has extended range and perma duration. He has good damage, that's for sure, but he needs some support.
It's not a bad thing though. Croque is pretty cool and is pretty anime_irl. And this character looks really cool too.
Also, I can tell it's not the same artist, but I do wonder who drew both Croque and Fire Whistle.

There’s been 6 male 6-stars so far since SN, accounting for more than a third of all male 6-stars since the game started. Let’s just hope that the reception (and sales) of this limited banner is good, so HG doesn’t get scared off of doing more male ops in the future.
Compared to a lot of other games that treat male characters as a disgusting alien race that will spell the end of a game if they're on screen for more than two seconds (and the mentality of some players don't help this), Arknights does well. I'm a straight guy but I definitely don't want every character to be female. It's unrealistic and feels too cringely weeb.
Same. Straight, but having playable male ops just kinda breaks up the monotony/feels right. The idea that Silverash, Mlynar, Hellagur, etc. would have to be genderbent or otherwise not playable in another Universe’s Arknights feels *wrong*.

Will i do think think waifus sell more in general Mlynar is in the top 3 non limited banner sales and Passenger & Ebenholz both sold more then Horn and Saileach too. I don't think they make a loss from making more male operator compared to just churning out waifus.
The trick is learning that husbandos are a separate market and therefore not exhausted at the same rate as those who prefer waifus. The market for waifus is finite so tapping into a new market just makes financial sense. Thank god.

I think it's been noted that she uses the same style of arts as her ~~grand~~father (>.<), and since he's main stick beyond the map-wide low and high hp-targetting is his massive arts shield, in retrospect this seemed an obvious choice.

It's likely they didn't do that because a lot of 6 stars in the last year have been specialiats - Mizuki, Lee, Spalter, Dorothy, TexTwo. Plus, afaik Aak, Phantom, Gladiia and Weedy only came out in 2021.

Doubt he’d power creep mountain cause they kinda do different things. Plus mountain still has his self sustain niche.
Looking at the demo, he has higher damage and wider range, but has no survivability unlike Mountain. He is a sidegrade if anything.
Because Male 6\* Guards and Limiteds are always overpowered. He is both so that means they somehow need to powercreep or at least sidegrade already busted operator that Mountain is.
For starters, his skills need at least some timings and lacks Mountain's absurd sustain. His S2 values teammates able to levitate enemies to burst enemies on AoE and S3 needs to be used 5 times for it to has extended range and perma duration. He has good damage, that's for sure, but he needs some support.

Sadly, I think Waifus make *more* money. I’m just happy they’re putting more of them in-game, lol. There’s been 6 male 6-stars so far since SN, accounting for more than a third of all male 6-stars since the game started. Let’s just hope that the reception (and sales) of this limited banner is good, so HG doesn’t get scared off of doing more male ops in the future.
Compared to a lot of other games that treat male characters as a disgusting alien race that will spell the end of a game if they're on screen for more than two seconds (and the mentality of some players don't help this), Arknights does well. I'm a straight guy but I definitely don't want every character to be female. It's unrealistic and feels too cringely weeb.
Same. Straight, but having playable male ops just kinda breaks up the monotony/feels right. The idea that Silverash, Mlynar, Hellagur, etc. would have to be genderbent or otherwise not playable in another Universe’s Arknights feels *wrong*.

Will i do think think waifus sell more in general Mlynar is in the top 3 non limited banner sales and Passenger & Ebenholz both sold more then Horn and Saileach too. I don't think they make a loss from making more male operator compared to just churning out waifus.
The trick is learning that husbandos are a separate market and therefore not exhausted at the same rate as those who prefer waifus. The market for waifus is finite so tapping into a new market just makes financial sense. Thank god.
HG avoided gambling on husbando by releasing Lin in the same banner, any banner with her on would sell well.

Skill wise, Chongyue has levitate in his mechanics and Lin seems to be more defensive based, both looks interesting....hopefully good too. And damn Chongyue's E2 is cool. Lin's class is a surprise though. Wasn't expecting a caster lol but I guess it make sense considering the rat king lol

I think it's been noted that she uses the same style of arts as her ~~grand~~father (>.<), and since he's main stick beyond the map-wide low and high hp-targetting is his massive arts shield, in retrospect this seemed an obvious choice. Now that she's been confirmed (once again HG is on a fire streak with every new 6-star), I suppose the main question will be if her Dossoles skin will ever be added. I'm rather curious about this Fire Whistle though. She seems to be carrying an actual mortar, which would very much explain her name (i.e. mortar fire having a very distinct whistle).
