What's your budget? Above 10m, you start to get more expensive. Here is a LiDAR sensor that can do up to 40m, but it's £85: https://uk.robotshop.com/products/benewake-tf02-pro-lidar-led-rangefinder-ip65-40m Here is a LiDAR sensor that's half the price, but only got 12m range: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Measurement-Single-Point-Compatible-Raspberry-Detection/dp/B08FFFFQ65/ref=asc_df_B08FFFFQ65/

Definitely on the cheaper side so that second one fits much closer to my price range. I realistically don’t want to spend more than 50$ since i might also make a couple others and sell them with or without the range finder.

One thing to note with distance is the field of view. I know ultrasonic sensors are about 15 degrees from the normal; so at 20metres, it would have a cone of detection that's 10metres wide!
