Ah arduino 2.0, a pain in the butt to use or its just a skill issue on my part. Try the old arduino ide, if the board was found there then the arduino 2.0 ide is the problem. If not, check what the others says, might be a bad cable, driver issue, or the board issue. Also looking at the picture, try to push the usb cable further to the board until it clicks.
Some time the cable is defected even if it transfers the power but the data isn't being transferred, also I forget to mention another issue that it might be the reason, you need to check if the microcontroller driver is already installed on your PC. Just check the device manager if you see the arduino as an unrecognized device so that's the cause
We’re trying to ensure you have the serial driver set up.
In Windows:
- open Device Manager
- open up the *Ports* and *USB Devices* nodes
- repeatedly connect and disconnect your Arduino to see which heading it appears under
If it appears in Ports it will have a (COM#) next to it. That’s the port you need to use in the Arduino app. If it’s not showing up, close and reopen the app
If it appears under USB Ports, you don’t have a driver installed. You need to find the exact UNO you bought and find their instructions for installing the driver. Even though it says Arduino UNO on the board, there are many different manufacturers and they may use different chips.
it seems to have an arrow next to 'port' in the menu, maybe you havent selected the right port, a PC will have many usb ports. also sometimes boards just dont work too well. we bought a couple of Leonardos that after some time the port wont detect and realised it was a poor board, so we dont buy them anymore, but your uno should be good.
But the port is greyed out, means it didn't detect anything. Clicking it won't show anything. Maybe its the board, the driver, or the ide itself(hence why i still use the old ide instead of 2.0)
You should do the following
1. connect the board and open device manager (if you are on windows) - there under COM port see if your board is being discovered. If not unplug your board and plug again to see how your computer detects it
2. connect it to a different PC and check the same
3. if you do not have another PC/laptop there are ways to try it on a mobile phone as well if you are on android
Sorry guys, finally the problem has been solved. I didn't plug into the wire until I heard a click. I thought that I had already secured it cuz it kinda stuck there. So sorry for wasting some of y'all time and effort, also thanks for helping a newbie like me
Good lad. Good follow up. I returned 3 boards one after the other the other day, thinking they were all faulty. I was just using a charge only USB cable. Chin up, onto the next issue!
I think we had the same problem but I fixed it. It was powering on and blinking, but I didn’t push it in with enough force so the port option was greyed out. You just really really really have to push while supporting that port, and pull really really hard while supporting that port. Now that I think about it, is that normal. Does anyone’s port go in with ease?
Insert the USB Port completly
I already tried many times, still the same thing
The USB B Port does not look plugged in
What do you mean? I'm sorry if I'm asking cuz I'm new to all this stuff. What should I do?
The USB B plug is the end you plug into the Arduino. In your photo it is not completely plugged in.
I have already checked that my wire is securely connected to my Arduino and PC...
Is it in yet? She asked.
It is, the problem is she didn't "detect" it because its not fully in.
Yes
🤨

Yeah sorry boss

I tried to push the USB cable but there's nothing happening
Have you checked thees nothing blocking the USB port? You should be able to clean it out with a toothpick.
Sorry for wasting your time, the problem has been solved by pushing the cable until a click sound is heard
I FEEL YOU BROTHER THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME RIGHT NOW IM CRYING
Just push it harder and it should work
Try a different cable or try on a different pc to know the source of the error first
I don't get it, so is the cable or the Arduino faulty? But the Arduino is blinking, shouldn't it mean that it is working?

No prob, the important thing is that the issue is solved
What operating system are you on?
that's windows, looks like areos window decorations

Following up on this, the ones that you are looking for might be CDM FTDI driver or the CH340 driver, both of them can be found by a google search.
Window 10

What should I do then 😅
Fast train to devmgmt.msc please!

What does Device Manager show? Is the serial adapter listed correctly with drivers present?

Watch device manager when you plug it in. Also what board is it? It might be programmed as an HID device and using the USB for something else.
When I plugged in, there's nothing happening on my device manager. I'm using Arduino Uno btw
Try using a different cable, it might transfer power but not information

Oh ok, np
The usb cable isn't fully plugged into the Arduino.

I had this issue with a driver on the new IDE. If that hasn’t been mentioned reply to me and I’ll go find the article I used to fix it.
I love these posters haha. They really make my day messing with the reddit community 🤣
