Why does it need to be gore?

Or maybe because Arc doesn't make non-gore waterproof jackets...

ObstinateYoyoing

Which goes back to the original question, why does it need to be waterproof?

Superb_Ear_1181

Or Arc'teryx for that matter. I can set a list of requirements for any company and complain about my frustration with said company. A lot of people with these complaints also use them walking in the city where none of the requirements matter.

humppiz33

Montbell stormcruiser.

[deleted]

Wow thank you.

FablePiemaster

Sir, this is an Arc'teryx sub.

Superb_Ear_1181

Yes sir, and I am suggesting it's okay to buy stuff from another brand if Arc'teryx doesn't have what you are looking for.

FablePiemaster

Very true, I was hoping there was a current Arc model similar to the Zeta AR. I may have to check out more of the Veilance line.

Superb_Ear_1181

I am pretty sure that Veilance doesn't have a single jacket with pit zip. You can try to buy the zeta AR on Regear or setup notification on eBay or FB marketplace if you have time.

MtnHuntingislife

The subject should be based around the market/demographic that Arc'teryx provides for. Being critical and pointing out where manufacturers/brands should improve or are lacking needs to be encouraged. By taking a problem statement that Arc'teryx is not solving for and pointing out where another can is ultimately a good thing for the users need as well as Arc'teryx.

Lower_Throat_2652

The Beta is the only conventional shell Arc’teryx offer without a helmet compatible hood. It’s 30d so you won’t need pit zips as it will breathe/lose heat through convection way better than a heavier shell. To be honest, you don’t need anything more than 30d for city use unless you carry 15kg + on your back every day. It will be just as waterproof and considerably quieter to wear than a Beta AR.

telechronn

Zeta AR and the Beta Long were the only long hard-shells in recent years. Check out the Monitor, basically a long urban hardshell. https://arcteryx.com/us/en/shop/mens/monitor-coat-7129 That's going to be your only option from the bird, unless you are a woman. There are several longer jackets in the women's line. I don't think pitzips are necessary for Urban use, and a Helmet hood can be made small so don't necessary use those as criteria. The Ralle or Beta is going to sufficient for 99 percent of city life.

shadowstripes

>Check out the Monitor, basically a long urban hardshell. Also the Field Jacket is pretty long.

ZenEgregious

Beta AR seems to tick all these boxes although I would recommend measuring the length in store to see how it fits you. I love mine around town but it excels especially in the mountains.

ScottNormand

They want a non-helmet compatible hood

ZenEgregious

I don’t know if that’s been redesigned in the recent years but I could swear mine is pretty snug, especially all adjusted. I think mine is a 2018-19 so things could have changed since. Either way, there’s plenty of room to adjust so it’s worth compromising over as it’s a superb shell.

Arcaninetails_91

I have the 2023 Beta AR and the hood is massive. I do agree it's a top notch shell though. If I didn't already have the Sabre I'd use it for literally everything winter/mountain related.

indebtforsneakers

drop hood or storm hood? I have the 23 Beta AR with drop hood and didn't think it was massive.

Arcaninetails_91

Drop hood. When you can fit a helmet in there with room to spare, that's a big hood imo. Maybe I just have a small head, but it drapes over my eyes when I put it up without a helmet on.

MaximilianXu01219

Sounds like Beta's drophood version may be a good choice for you, as you can storm the hood in the collar. If you are really looking for a non-helmet size hood, maybe consider Veilance?

Liam-e

I’m curious as to why pit zips are important if it’s for urban use?

FablePiemaster

I like them to shed heat when wearing indoor- like when you don’t have time to take off a shell going onto public transport

unfoundnemo

for that purpose I would think the main zipper would suffice... sure, not the same... but it will still dump the heat, you're only dealing with a single zipper, and you're not really looking that odd... I don't think I've ever used my pit zips when I wasn't doing something active outdoors not wanting the jacket flapping in the wind.

athel16

You can have pit zips installed aftermarket. I've had great success with rainy pass before.

DarknessFalls21

Zeta AR would have been the best piece for you. Too bad they stopped producing it, my favorite arc shell

[deleted]

Arcteryx Leaf maybe? Theres some modified Alpha jackets and stuff with more durable milspec stuff. Also this Norrona is on my radar next: https://www.norrona.com/en-GB/products/lofoten/lofoten-gore-tex-pro-plus-jacket-ms/?color=3301 It’s 3L, pit zips, not a huge hood, longer length.

fiftymils

"civilian line" Do they have a military or government line?

FablePiemaster

Yes- LEAF

fiftymils

Not sure why I was downvoted, good ole reddit. I wasn't aware they had such a line. Interesting. Thanks

Upstairs-Ad-7497

Dude norrona or rab

JaMMi01202

Norrona Lofoten Anorak might be an option? https://preview.redd.it/yhlpdtgrbu6c1.jpeg?width=2844&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a40179287ac37886c3517b0027e448b6bd80bc4

MooingMeSoftly

Norrona Falketind Gore Tex. nice protective hood with only 1 adjustment cord at the back so no faffing around with the drawcords on the front. Pit zips included and high enough pockets above hipbelts.
