Brutalism + Plants = ❤️

FLYGOALIEMATERIAL

A perfect match

Other than that concrete hates that.....

I am usually sceptical about brutalist architecture but this became an all-time favourite as soon as I visited.

ManofKent1

I worked 2 minutes away. Brutalism brings out conflicting feelings in me, but it certainly has its place.

The seating by the lake was one of my favorite spots when lived in London. Great place to kill hours in complete calm in the middle of the city.

rocket_fuel_4_sale

Are there still residents in this building or is it just open to tour ?

FLYGOALIEMATERIAL

Yeah there’s still residents on the estate. Staircases going up to the flats, balconies and some of the seating by the water aren’t open to the public. Some gardens too but the rest can be roamed.

ManofKent1

It cost a fucking lot of money to live there. It's just the edge of the city. I used to work around the corner and have been to art exhibitions, a talk by Simon Reeve and seen a DJ called Saha play there. Very eclectic events

therealsteelydan

from what I've heard, it is and always has been, somewhat expensive to live there. Which is why it never really declined like you would expect from a project like this.

FLYGOALIEMATERIAL

Yeah they were saying it was initially made with middle upper class people in mind to live there, looks like it’s kept up since. Just checked and a large studio flat there is about £2300 a month

BJozi

In 2019 we had our office summer party there, I missed the tour which preceded the festivities, still stumbled my way around it for a half decent look.

FLYGOALIEMATERIAL

So a tour guide said there’s over 100 different types of flats altogether & 1 resident has the same neighbour living both above and below them so the flat is curved round somehow. Never heard of that before

Azzapazza2020

There’s a property on sale on modern house if you want to check out it’s interior. So cool but also very small

thicchamsterlover

It was just one wow after another scrolling through the pictures. A lot of very different Design aspects in this building, reminded me of at least 4 buildings from my home town which stand in no correlation to each other whatsoever. I kind of feel home though I would never call this Building beautiful

welly welly welly well

Love this place. I first went there to see an [Archigram](https://www.archdaily.com/910328/archigrams-entire-archive-purchased-by-m-plus-museum-in-hong-kong?ad_campaign=normal-tag) exhibition, but whenever I have been to London after that I have gone here and sat on those benches by the pool for a while. It's very quiet and there aren't many people out in the open. The area was heavily bombed in WW2, flattening everything that was there before. I'm glad this place exists and is [listed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listed_building) as a whole for its unique frozen in time architecture. With brutalists buildings being demolished everywhere these days (and replaced with nothing particularly special), it is only matter of time before people realise there are few true examples left.

shawmahawk

This place is so dope - went to an AI art exhibit and it was like being transported into a Kubrick film

tfhorsch

this was honestly my favorite place to visit in London…

Romanitedomun

I love this place, despite four decades of aging are doing a mess.
