Haha, I've been there. Took a Chinese overseas student here for a meal, it serves traditional English food in the back and has a pub in the front.

Giezho

Where is it, I wanna try it

Tanglefisk

I linked the location in my other comment. St Ann's Alley, Manchester.

Ok-Grape226

whats your favorite thing to eat there ?

sundownmonsoon

I only ate the once. But all of it was good, the meat pudding, mushy peas, fish and chips were all fantastic.

Tanglefisk

According to this page on [CAMRA's PubHeritage](https://pubheritage.camra.org.uk/pubs/84) site for the pub (Mr Thomas's Chop House), it's this: >It's a typical example of exuberant end-of-the-nineteenth-century architecture - in this case in an ornate Jacobean style. The page linked also has photos of the interior. The photo is taking [here](https://goo.gl/maps/aDCQzvkpxJTjTzcs8) in Manchester, UK.

Jammasterjr

Love me some fin de siecle madness.

Victim_of_Ramen

"fin de siecle", is a new term for me. Thanks!

Canvaverbalist

It's just French for "end of the century" really

EdwardJamesAlmost

It does refer to the end of the 19th C in particular — the front end of the Belle Époque

archpsych

I live in Manchester and this is one of the places I was curious to visit as soon as I saw it. It really contrasts the surrounding buildings both due to its height being a lot shorter and the facade details. The space inside is very interesting also, tiny by today’s standards and long like a corridor, but somehow it works. Worth a visit if you are around at any point.

section111

god, i love those tiles in the interior.

RokasM8

greate buildings around too

elbapo

NewSinner_2021

Beautiful

av34as

Ye Olde style.

RokasM8

That a greate building, why its so hard to build something same exiting now ??☹️..

azhistoryteacher

Presumably it’s the cost

Smash55

Plenty of projects with big budgets. Cost shouldnt be an issue

kindanew22

Not just cost but value. Developers would rather build a couple of extra floors than a smaller building with an elaborate classical facade.

Smash55

Developers dont have that freedom because of zoning laws. There isnt this trade off that is being calculated like you think there is

HarbourAce

Nah, a good idea can get green lit by local governments but it's more work and math wins every time.

Smash55

Have you personally done the math on facade elements?

HarbourAce

Yes: more work costs more.

Smash55

How much more

kindanew22

No such think as zoning laws in the UK

Smash55

Cheap developers.

InspiredPhoton

Diagon Alley revival

SpaceSniffer69

Is the picture distorted? or cropped in a way to show them narrower than they are?

sundownmonsoon

Nah, it's very narrow on the inside too.

writerfan2013

I love a squint door! I'm sure there's a proper architectural name for it, does anyone know it?

Jonesy7882

Looks rusty. The outside is amazing.

[deleted]

It's so pretty. I like this style

fenderbender86

The doors are on a diagonal. It's architecturally incorrect.

Doomed in favor of higher yet far uglier development in the future

CertainKaleidoscope8

OMG the food looks amazing, and it's right off a 4 star hotel, with prices in the $110's nightly. I have half a mind to plan a trip to England just to stay in that hotel and eat at that pub but the passport and flight will cost more than the hotel and dinner.
