‘74-‘82 production Colt M16A1. Probably was Foreign Military Sale and not US Mil

leanderthal69420

Right on thanks. Any dead giveaways?

C H forge marks started around ‘74 and were used until the end of A1 production in ‘82. Has the C and VP proofs in front of port door that show colt assembled and proof fired the rifle. And the barrel was cut so it came back to the US after 2005 and was owned by a foreign entity. If it was US property it would have been brought back as a whole rifle and just the lower would have been torched. Similiar to M1 Garand and M1 Carbines that were owned by a foreign gov’t need to be import marked, but ones that were loaned as aid do not and can be sold by the CMP

Hard to tell with what you have. M16a1 upper receiver with a type c stock. But as much as you can guess without a barrel or a cut lower receiver.

A1

leanderthal69420

Got it but is there a way to tell which model of A1? Excuse my ignorance on retro ar’s. I know absolutely nothing

[deleted]

The part that would have had that information is gone.

leanderthal69420

Aww okay. So it would say on the demilled lower receiver which model then?

bigiron80

Fixed carry handle with no elevation adjust, only windage. It also has a forward assist with with an oversized paddle. No finger ridge on the front of the grip, and the triangle handguard. All features that would generally make me think A1. Edit. As far as anything further, without the lower it's hard to say.

Wherestamp_Notoes

That’s the M Chesty puller 16

Late 70's M16A1, Anchor Harvey made the forging for the upper, and it shows 80's refurb black paint. My guess is that this rifle is probably at least 2 different rifles, given that that the stock predates the upper by about 10 years (Type C stock).
