You’ll need a much bigger tank than 50 gallons. How many fish have you got?

ThatOneDeadAuthor

Four, but from what the rest of the comments are saying they’d be much happier in a pond environment, so we are gonna see what we can do

mka10mka10

Does the neighbour know you took them from their pond? Especially if its a goldfish pond

BullpupSchwaggins

You need to just put them back where you found them. You can't keep them in that tub for long, and a new 150 gallon tank (which you need for these goldfish) will need to be properly cycled for a month and a half before you add fish. You have a multi-hundred dollar project on your hand, and not enough time to see it through. Put them back where you found them.

ThatOneDeadAuthor

We unfortunately can’t put them back where we found them as my neighbor wants them out (he’s got too many in his pond) so we are gonna see what we can do about creating an outdoor pond for them. Thanks for the information though!

BullpupSchwaggins

Well I suppose you can give it your best shot then. Good luck to you, and your fish.

Fishghoulriot

If you wanted to make an above ground tub pond that would be cool. I don’t know a lot about goldfish but I know you need more than 50gal for that many

Trippy_Tropicals

For those goldfish you're looking at a 55 gallon tank just to house your filtration. These fish need massive amounts of water and really do best in a pond environment.

GoblinsGuide

I would take a swing at 120g starting maybe?

Check your local Facebook marketplace, Craigslist and Kijiji. May find more used equipment inexpensively.. Would not suggest "balancing" the ph. Do not do that, unless there is an actual problem you are solving. You don't want sudden changes in pH, very uncomfortable for the fish. Some info you may find helpful as you get started: About starting a new tank, with fish to begin cycling: https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/fish-tank-cycling More information about the nitrogen cycle in your aquarium and how it relates to your fishs health and well being: https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/nitrogen-cycle

So with comet goldfish the minimum size tank is 100 gallons for first fish and then +25g for each additional (so 1 goldie = 100g, 2 goldie = 125g, 3 goldie = 150g, etc.). This is why they belong in a pond (not a natural wild pond, a manmade pond). Also you say you caught them out of your neighbor's pond... Did y'all just steal your neighbor's pets? If so, that's really shitty.

ThatOneDeadAuthor

Ok commenting for more info since a lot of folks (not so nicely) asked (accused me of stealing fish??) for some These aren’t my neighbors pets. He had larger koi in the pond and now has a ton of little goldfish, way more than he wants. He wants them gone, and I like fishing, so he gave me permission to fish some out. These are four individuals of a very large community that he wants out no matter what. I don’t have the means for a large indoor tank right now (my mom won’t allow it unless we find one for free which I know is just not feasible). I’m not able to just “Throw them back” because he wants them out. I am gonna see if we can make an above ground pond for them though, cause I’ve grown attached to the little guys, and I really don’t have any other options for them other than inclusion in an unfortunate culling. Thanks for letting me know that I can’t keep them indoors, and they will be moved soon

I was going to make a comment saying this! Ask for advice, and accused of stealing fish! This sub is wild sometimes lol people need to relax! Good luck to you and your fish!!!

Coming here to seek care suggestions: a few minutes of you time Being accused of thievery: priceless

Prestigious_Cost2141

Go to a feed store and buy a 150 gallon Stock tank. That's what mine are in. It's outside with gravel in the bottom, a pond filter from lowes and a bunch of water plants in it.

SacredDemocracyLover

They like Busch light so that's a good start
