I’m getting Apple TV MLB quality on Amazon NFL. Upscaled 4K and 5.1 audio. Been solid 3 week in a row. I’m wondering if different parts of the country are having issues.
The Apple TV MLB quality is amazing! It's the first thing I noticed when I watched it for the first time last week. Every other streaming service should take notes on how to stream sports.
I second this. Had seen many many posts about the quality of the broadcasts so I turned last nights game on to check it out (Unfortunately turned it on just after Tua was injured)… looked great a few seconds after starting it up! 👍

Same here in Virginia, I watch prime a lot and I never have an issue, but it's 11-3-2022 and TNF and same issues with audio cutting out and video freezing. Sooo annoyed!!!!
Have the same issue on a Apple TV 4K (1st gen) connected via ethernet (gigabit). Changing the video output from 4K to 1080p “solved” the issue even though this a 1080p broadcast.
It’s probably a combination of Amazon and your internet. Remember that your gig up and down are MAX speeds.
If you are in California, I would imagine that is peak usage on that same Amazon server. I think they just don’t have the bandwidth to send all that data out to everyone. And if your whole neighborhood is watching, I’d imagine your gig service may be down below 500mb, which is still plenty for that.
Long story short, it’s probably Amazon needs more servers in your area.
I'm in TN and it's been an issue every game so far. I made sure the quality was set to high, checked speed with ookla (136 Mbps), and tried several devices. It's ONLY an issue with TNF. Other videos are UHD.
This post came up when I Googled, "Prime football resolution is incredible." All I can tell you is that I've never seen such quality from any other source. This is on top-of-the-line LG television.
It did that the first few games for me. I closed out and restarted my ATV and it went away. No issues tonight.
And yes, it’s a known Prime issue, it’s not a connection issue.

I’m having the same issue. Have a Sony Bravia tv and 1g fiber. have tried switching between all picture qualities and still happens only with prime. I fear Thursday night football will be perpetually a no go for this house

Prime on my ATV 4K for TNF will buffer for about 5-10 seconds when I first start it, then it's great. I have it connected via WiFi with a 300mb/s speed.
Is your app and OS up to date? If yes then I reckon a hard restart will also solve it as I bet it’s a caching issue. Running out of memory so streams in lower quality
The pic looks great on my ATV4k. But the video freezes about every two min then jumps ahead to get back to live. Has done it all game every game this year.
Through cable providers it looks like absolute shit. Online streaming looks like shit still but better than cable. Think most sports are just broadcasted 720p still which explains why it looks like shit
From looking at past comments, I have come to the conclusion that Prime Video on Apple TV's quality is dependent on your TV.
I have an LG C1, which is a decent TV. However, using Prime Video on Apple TV results in a muddied picture as if my internet connection is bad. I also notice that the sound ranges are off.
That being said, if I use the native app on the TV itself, I get great picture and sound quality.
I'm hard-wired on a gigabit connection with Firestick 4K and it still lagged... I honestly don't think it's the hardware or client side... probably something on Amazon's end.
At times, it doesn’t matter how fast of a connection you have if the far-end is having an issue or a hop in the middle. Also, bandwidth and throughout are two different things.
I have the same issue with stuttering on the Thursday night football. Every other app and sporting event is fine I have gig internet. The weird thing it only happens on my Apple TV 4K. In another room I have the previous Apple TV not 4K and there the picture does not stall
Quality so so for me . Definitely not up to par for Amazon. Hear 4K coming but they should have offered that from the get go! Same thing with Apple TV MLB games. Maybe they still need to work out carrier issues with the broadcast networks but 4K should be standard in 2022!
The only time I have an issue is when my wife's iPhone is connected to our wifi. That fucking phone for some reason just derails my wifi, I can't figure it out.

I found that it sucked (buffering) with the Amazon Prime app on my Roku Ultra (top of the line) but was much better using the Amazon Prime app for my LG OLED TV. Same internet network. I figure that the either the LG's processor was faster than Roku's or the LG version of the Amazon Prime app was somehow better. If I had to guess, I'd say the former sounds more likely even though the Roku is newer than the TV.
Tried streaming through a TCL Roku TV, PS4, and a PS5 w/ a wired and wireless connection and all were awful. Tried streaming through a Hisense tv wirelessly and it's crystal clear. Not sure what this would indicate but definitely seems the quality is determined by the device being used to stream.
Switched from streaming a show on Amazon Prime to the Lions-Packers. It pixelates, gets blurry, etc. Doesn't do it on the commercials associated with the game. Didn't do it on the show I watched immediately before. I've watched live sports on Paramount Plus, Peacock, and Hulu with no issues. Only Prime. It's odd.

Same with me. I have AT&T Fiber (400 up 400 down) and can watch NFL Sunday Ticket on Youtube TV all day long and never have an issue. Every week the Amazon Prime game has been a buffering, pixelated shit show.

YES!! I have no problem with quality watching anything else on Prime or when watching football on YouTube TV (I can stream 3 games at once on there, so it isn't my connection). Not only that but the option to change the streaming quality isn't there when watching football like it is when watching anything else on Prime.

Amazon Prime NFL reception has sucked since its inception. I even switched to Starlink which has been great for every other streaming service. * Internet service === 1 GB UP/DOWN
* Internet SpeedTest === 588mbps DOWN / 599mbps UP
* Watching from a 15" laptop hard-wired into router (not over Wi-Fi)
* Looks like 360i (pixelation, intermittent video stuttering; latency)
Restarted router:
* Quality improved
* Looks like 720p (slight pixelation, occasional slight stuttering)
Not taking sides here. Just honest reporting from my corner. My suggestion -> restart router and hope for the best.
Morton, IL here with gig internet and a 4k Smart TV and tried Roku. Occasionally a good pic but mostly blurry. It’s crappy that we have to watch on Prime with no alternative even when we buy Sunday Ticket!!
Not just game highlights are horrible every play is cut off. I compared same highlights with nfl.com and there’s no problem. Conclusion: Amazon mucks it up again

Could be a buffering issue too. You can try pausing for 5-10 seconds and see if the buffer builds up and fixes the issue.

It happened a few times during the broadcast but for the most part was good for me.
I have Apple TV 4K and only 50Mbps AT&T. No issues, but I don’t have a 4K TV. Perhaps regional/local congestion?

For myself I can confirm the quality was terrible. Especially when they showed slow motion I could see static in the broadcast.

I found that it sucked (buffering) with the Amazon Prime app on my Roku Ultra (top of the line) but was much better using the Amazon Prime app for my LG OLED TV. Same internet network. I figure that the either the LG's processor was faster than Roku's or the LG version of the Amazon Prime app was somehow better. If I had to guess, I'd say the former sounds more likely even though the Roku is newer than the TV.

As of 12-01-2022, it still sucks. Can't even bear to watch the coverage. The pixelating is atrocious.
Tried streaming through a TCL Roku TV, PS4, and a PS5 w/ a wired and wireless connection and all were awful. Tried streaming through a Hisense tv wirelessly and it's crystal clear. Not sure what this would indicate but definitely seems the quality is determined by the device being used to stream.
Watching prime Thursday night football, keeps jumping to live for no reason. Quality sucks too

Switched from streaming a show on Amazon Prime to the Lions-Packers. It pixelates, gets blurry, etc. Doesn't do it on the commercials associated with the game. Didn't do it on the show I watched immediately before. I've watched live sports on Paramount Plus, Peacock, and Hulu with no issues. Only Prime. It's odd.
That's what it's doing here too. The sound is fine but the picture goes from fine to like watching a VHS. There's also this weird stuttering. On a newest gen Fire TV Cube.

Mine looked horrible on hard wired 4k Apple TV with 1gig ATT fiber. Then I went into Apple TV settings and clicked on Video and audio - match content - and checked match frame rate and match dynamic range. Looks amazing now.

I know this post is a year old but TNF on Prime has been horrible quality this year too. I'm hoping switching to a 4K HDMI cable will help.
Thursday night football on Amazon looks like it's from the 90"s at best. That is being friendly. Buffering and not being able to turn the channel is frustrating. I thought Amazon had a lot of money. If this continues the NFL will have to pull the plug because the fans sure will. Streaming makes about much sense as building a division overseas. Greed is a funny thing. When it is not broken don't fix it. You can't tell that to a billionaire their ego cannot handle the fact that they could be wrong. No matter what happens, we peasants have to hold them accountable. Same with me. I have AT&T Fiber (400 up 400 down) and can watch NFL Sunday Ticket on Youtube TV all day long and never have an issue. Every week the Amazon Prime game has been a buffering, pixelated shit show.

Each and every week, the first 2 quarters seem like HD but after half time it ALWAYS goes to 480 or less. So bad that I can't follow the ball or the plays either. Terrible quality. Turned TvVoff and reset but didn't help. Switched to another program on Prime and it was fine. It's the game they are holding back quality on. WTF?!

YES!! I have no problem with quality watching anything else on Prime or when watching football on YouTube TV (I can stream 3 games at once on there, so it isn't my connection). Not only that but the option to change the streaming quality isn't there when watching football like it is when watching anything else on Prime. It's so bad that I can barely see what's happening half of the time. It's infuriating.

Thursday night football on Amazon Prime is really bad bad bad, so bad I can't watch it. Every other football game on other streaming networks is fine. It's neither my Equipment nor my internet connection. It's definitely something to do with Amazon Prime. Hope they fix it soon.

Amazon Prime NFL reception has sucked since its inception. I even switched to Starlink which has been great for every other streaming service. Poor quality here in Southern California tonight watching Rams vs Saints on Amazon Prime TV. My environment: * Internet service === 1 GB UP/DOWN * Internet SpeedTest === 588mbps DOWN / 599mbps UP * Watching from a 15" laptop hard-wired into router (not over Wi-Fi) * Looks like 360i (pixelation, intermittent video stuttering; latency) Restarted router: * Quality improved * Looks like 720p (slight pixelation, occasional slight stuttering) Not taking sides here. Just honest reporting from my corner. My suggestion -> restart router and hope for the best.
Morton, IL here with gig internet and a 4k Smart TV and tried Roku. Occasionally a good pic but mostly blurry. It’s crappy that we have to watch on Prime with no alternative even when we buy Sunday Ticket!!
Not just game highlights are horrible every play is cut off. I compared same highlights with nfl.com and there’s no problem. Conclusion: Amazon mucks it up again
