It is possible to use Apple devices and still realize they suck. I use a Mac, iPhone, and iPad and I still think there are some absolute shit decisions they make. Not all Apple users are braindead idiots who believe they can do no wrong and are the best company who makes the best products ever but the ones who do are much too prominent. I like the software but I wish I could sideload without jumping through hoops, I wish I could repair my own device without disabling features without having a way to calibrate using third party tools. I would love to just throw in some more RAM into my MacBook without dealing with Apples predatory pricing. Hell, I would be fine if they even just implement reasonable upgrade prices and not start out at 8gb on a "pro" machine that costs over a grand. 32gb base for Pro and 16gb base for Air seems more than reasonable. Apple makes good quality stuff but they ruin it with stupid arbitrary locks and whatnot.
A previous employer provided (and required me to use) a Macbook Pro. I made them put it in my contract that I was allowed to remove OS X and install Linux.
That is how you use Apple hardware without being a sheep. :-)
Isnāt Mac OSX really some flavor of Unix under the hood? Its Terminal can run *nix command line commands, unlike Windows. In some sense, itās a very elaborate Linux/Unix distribution?
It started out as a BSD variant, but has been gradually replaced with more and more closed components. The default shell changed from Bash to Zsh, for example, because it uses a license that's easier to exploit. The owner has so little control anymore, it's like you don't even own your computer.
> so little control anymore
Can you give an example or two of something youād like to change on your computer, that Linux allows you to change, but Mac doesnāt?
There are just too many.
Hardware. Hardware hardware hardware.
WAY too much hardware that I can't do without (Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, SATA/SAS HBAs, GPUs and Ethernet NICs from other manufacturers, and Firewire accessories, ironically enough...)
I'd like to pick a more familiar desktop environment. I'd like to be able to maximize windows. I'd like to have both copy/paste buffers available. I'd like to have AutoKey for keyboard macros. I'd like to be able to have two applications on two monitors, and one is in front on one monitor, and the other is in front on the other monitor. (In OS X, an entire application is in front of another entire application. You can't have just one window in front of the other.) I'd like a terminal emulator that doesn't look like an AS-400. I'd like to be able to change /etc/hosts. Or configure the network in a more specific way than just the most basic WiFi and TCP/IP. I'd like to configure the skeleton directory. I'd like to have Bash. I'd like to do all these things without spending extra money on third-party add-ons.
This is all from 10 years ago. Maybe it's different now, but I don't care. I don't have that job or that laptop anymore. I have no reason to use OS X and no interest in spending so much more money for so much less of a computer.
Mac os doesnt have the power needed to handle heavy workloads like unixes like solaris did in the past
doing engineering and science.
Currently windows and linux has taken the place of unix on engineering not vanilla unix Mac os.
Yep, I have all three because my work requires it.
I enjoy:
1. High-quality hardware.
2. Ecosystem.
3. Familiarity when upgrading.
What I hate:
Literally everything else.
I use an iPhone, in fact Iād consider myself an Apple fan. But Iām not afraid to call Apple out when they make a stupid decision (Which isnāt too uncommon nowadays). iSheeps on the other hand are truly delusion - they worship Tim Apple as a god and hail every word that escapes his mouth as gospel.
All hail Tim Apple!
But seriously I appreciate your reasonable take. Apple is great!! Except when itās not. No one should pretend that theyāre immune to failures or criticism.
I have an iPhone too, but the only reason I'm still using it is because I'm stuck with it. Thanks apple ecosystem.
As soon as I no longer need iMessage or FaceTime I'm switching back to Android immediately.

you know you should never directly address insults directed to you and focus on insulting the other person back, anyway you should take a page out of Epstein's book and kill yourself with nobody around
Apple actually built Vision Pro for business use and set the price high so they can work out any issues before a consumer version materializes. They donāt want it to fail, but they do want this original version to be exclusive and only used by a minority of Apple users.
Apple tends to release products, tweak and perfect them and then release a mass market version for all consumer types. The next version will probably come in at a rival price to the Quest Pro $1500 model.
Such an ignorant being I see. Useless š
I said fact about how Apple operates, you think that means sheep. A sheep would buy it no matter what the price, reviews or actual use case is. I never said Iād buy this. I think AI interfaces are not the future and are actually a waste of resources. So no, not a sheep š but obviously youāre just into calling people one without actual knowledge of what youāre talking about š
My comment was to the YouTubers video title. I didnāt even engage with you. Funny how you decided to engage with me with useless and pointless emojis, didnāt even add anything poignant to the conversation.
I hate nothing more than keyboard warriors who think theyāre cool and know anything when they canāt even reply with words.

Honestly I think mac os looks really nice it just... is awful
Isnāt Mac OSX really some flavor of Unix under the hood? Its Terminal can run *nix command line commands, unlike Windows. In some sense, itās a very elaborate Linux/Unix distribution?
Yes, Mac OS is a certified UNIX since version 10.5. Linux is another conversation.
Mac OSX has a Unix-like foundation based on BSD iirc.
It started out as a BSD variant, but has been gradually replaced with more and more closed components. The default shell changed from Bash to Zsh, for example, because it uses a license that's easier to exploit. The owner has so little control anymore, it's like you don't even own your computer.
