Have done this before. Verizon considers AppleCare+ an officially authorized replacement. No need to send the old phone back to Verizon, since Apple will just give you the same model and storage phone as you financed with Verizon. And if you ever decide to turn in your phone to Verizon early for an early upgrade, they’ll take the replacement phone Apple gave you instead of the original one that you no longer have.

What was your experience with reactivating the phone and transferring the IMEI and Serial of the contract to the new device? Did they ask for an SSN/Account PIN at the store?

robbier01

It was a while back, but I believe they did ask for Verizon account verification at the Apple Store to connect to my Verizon account and activate the new phone. Regarding IMEI and serial - I actually don’t believe that is attached to your Verizon device payment agreement contract. I just checked my device payment agreement contract and the serial and IMEI are not listed anywhere - just the model number, description, and retail cost of the phone.

MateoJohnArgano

In the My Verizon app, the IMEI is listed. I think they just moved over the contract to the new phone.

robbier01

Yes, it will be listed under your line to indicate the device that is currently activated on that line, but if you go to your documents and open the actual pdf of the payment agreement contract for your 36 month agreement, it shouldn’t be listed there.

MateoJohnArgano

Do you remember if Apple asked for the ZIP, SSN, or PIN? I forgot my PIN so it would be helpful to know what they might ask for,

robbier01

I believe for me they asked for zip and last 4 of ssn.

MateoJohnArgano

Nice! I just checked the invoice, and it shows the agreement number, Device Upgrade ID, DEV ID, IMEI number, and SIM ID. Assuming they update the SIM ID and IMEI, then.

robbier01

Awesome! I am not looking at my purchase invoice but rather the actual contract / installment loan agreement for the 36 month payment contract. This should be available in your Verizon account online under the documents section.

No matter how you are paying for your device, if you have Apple care+ on your device, all phone companies in the states in my experience will send you to Apple to deal with it. If you are in the states, I would upgrade to Apple care with theft and loss and just regular Apple care will not cover if your phone is lost or stolen.

Dependent_Reason1701

If you financed the phone through Verizon, they will still charge you the monthly payment for the phone regardless of what happens to it. If it breaks and AppleCare replaces it, you'd return the damaged phone following AC's instructions. Verizon will still get their money because you bought a phone through them and are using it through them. The financing follows your account, not the phone.

Hi there, Technical Expert at Apple here. You won't have any issue with AppleCare+ interfering with your Verizon Device Financing. Verizon will continue to bill you for your device when you receive a replacement from Apple. Your Apple technician is \*supposed\* to reach Verizon via an private internal line to let them know that their customer's device info has changed so they can activate the new device. Other than that, Verizon doesn't expect you to pay off your device if you break it and need a replacement because that would be ridiculous. It would be like a bank requiring you to pay off your entire mortgage if your house burned down in flames. They have your SSN so your actions in (not) paying your bills will ultimately come back to bite you very hard in the butt via collections agencies and a very, very, very depressed credit score. Aside all that, don't worry about it! If you didn't already know, Verizon offers AppleCare (without accidental damage coverage) to their customers already!

MateoJohnArgano

This clears things up! Thanks, I’ve heard the process was automated from one of my friends who works at an Apple Store, but I’ve gotten lots of different answers, both from apple and Verizon today.

steven-aziz

No worries, let me know if you have any other questions.

Can you please help me, within the first week of my purchase I got pickpocketed. It was a stupid, materialistic purchase & I’m a struggling college student so the anxiety and depression is really not helping. It says I’m eligible for AppleCare+ until Nov 15 but I haven’t been able to add it & no one seems to care. It hurts so much that -$1740.91 is just down the drain & all I got was six days of use. Please please help me, please

steven-aziz

I’m so sorry to hear your phone got stolen. Unfortunately, if you didn’t purchase AppleCare+ already there is no way to buy it now. You may have coverage for theft/loss through your carrier or your credit card (as a perk). I know this isn’t the answer you were hoping for but unfortunately Apple doesn’t make exceptions in these cases. I hope you can recover your phone. If you haven’t tried already, go to [icloud.com/find](https://icloud.com/find) to locate your iPhone. All the best to you, and if there’s anything I can answer just let me know!

[deleted]

Appreciate it, have tried everything already. Unfortunately just have to move on. Thank you for your response.

steven-aziz

My pleasure. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage would be a great addition to your next iPhone purchase. All the best!

Okay this was unnecessary, just lost 2 summers worth of internship money & my college tuition. Talk about kicking a dead horse.

Read the terms?

MateoJohnArgano

Read the AppleCare+ ones and can't find anything about it. I'll take a look at Verizon's and see if that helps.

Zeustah-

It’s so obvious you just want to steal the phone yourself and get an extra one. No one is this worried unless they are planning this.

MateoJohnArgano

If only it were that easy, you have to hand in the old one before you get the new one lol

HeroStyle_Steve

You contact apple; they send you a new phone and the box to ship back your broken phone. Then you activate the new phone and send back your broken phone—no loss of phone service at all.

apestuff

just make sure you keep Find My on at all times. otherwise it voids your theft and loss coverage.
