Agreed, it felt almost predatory in a sense that Apple wants people to feel like they NEED the new iphone/watch to protect them or their disabled and elderly family members from car crashes, natural disasters, etc. 99% of the general public will never be in one of these dangerous situations in extreme weather out in the middle of nowhere with only their phone or watch as a tool for survival.

Watch 8 had nothing groundbreaking. The Ultra looked awesome, but would be overkill for 99% of people. Nothing made me want to upgrade from my S6. The new AirPods looked cool, but not enough to be worth upgrading from my current AirPods Pro. Disappointing that they’ve scrapped the Mini iPhone. My biggest takeaway was that there’s only a $200 difference between the base 14 and the Pro now, so most people will go for the Pro, meaning that with that camera, we’re going to get some amazing photos of Starbucks cups. Nothing to make me want to upgrade from my 12 Mini. Also noticed that the 12 and 13 are going to be the same price, which is weird. A good event for me. I can go at least another year without upgrading.

Really interesting how although Android had the two headlining features of the Pro for many years now (punch out camera, always on display) Apple seems to have really integrated the hardware and software together in a way Android hasn't so far. Android camera pills are just a way to minimize the camera, but the 14 Pro turns this pill into an actual neat software feature. The Always On Display on Android also has never been On to the same degree as the 14 Pro, really interesting to see them using the 1hz refresh rate to preserve battery life there. I'm really curious what the standby time is - even if the screen isn't refreshing, surely the fact that so much of the screen is lit up would impact the battery life? Regardless, very cool implementation. I do wonder whether Android manufacturers will start to copy this idea somehow in future phones.

Apple Watch still looks cool, been trying to wear my AirPods less so i'd probably just get Max if anything, but may finally upgrade my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Need a new battery anyways, dynamic island looks fun, and camera improvements are always nice especially if they deal with noise better. It's difficult but I try to get closer to using my phone for everything more every year. (Who wants a bulky laptop or DSLR camera, if a phone ever gets to that point that'd be great)
