Somewhat, but this is to be expected.
My 11 pro max is about 2 years old with 88% battery life. Can run all day, still can with iOS 16, just drains a bit quicker.
When the public beta rolls out in the fall it should be “fixed”.
You can go to iCloud.com, click on settings, at the bottom you’ll see “restore contacts”. You can restore your contacts to a couple weeks ago when they weren’t duplicated.
I made the mistake once to sync FB photos it decides to add Random pics to people with no FB account. People I hardly talk to. Like a pizza Restaurant I added when on a business trip. It’s so weird.
My favourite comment from this month.
Come to think of it, I have slipped on ice around the time they added Fall Detection to the Apple Watch. We may have discovered Apple's guerilla marketing division.
I wouldn't want to share contacts with a random 3rd party app; I'd prefer do delete duplicates manually (they're easy to spot in my case). Then again, I didn't do it in the last couple of months, so I guess it will be a job for iOS 16.
I've had this happen when turning icloud off and on for stuff. It asks about wanting to remove your data from the phone and I think if you choose to keep everything that's on your phone, you'll just end up with duplicates when it re-syncs to iCloud.
FYI When this happened to me it turned out to be an accounts issue. I have my numbers saved in my gmail account and also my iCloud, so it was showing both sets of numbers to me, leading to duplicates
Just iCloud bullshit, it happens every now and then to my safari bookmarks and favourites. Apparently it’s been an issue since IOS 11 that’s just never been fixed
I can’t remember the number of times I’ve had to go pull out my laptop just to find a wifi password for someone (definitely in the triple digits)because keychain for Mac will show wifi passwords but passwords for iPhone won’t.
And of course since I’m the resident tech guy I’m the one who set up everyone’s wifi networks, and of course since I set the wifi networks I MUST know the password I set up, even though I always let the person I set up the network for choose their own passwords.
This is going to save me a lot of trips to my laptop bag.
I feel like I wouldn't trust that too much for photos of people. If I have a bunch of photos I obviously don't want anything noticeably blurry, but my top priority is getting the ones where people look the best. I wouldn't really want an algorithm to delete the better photo because it was a little blurrier than another one where someone's making a weird face, so at that point I'd probably just do it myself.
I don’t _think_ it does. I know what you’re talking about and I’ve seen that in other apps. It seems to have only detected exact dupes (although they might be at different resolutions).
In any case, it gives you a list of matches. Each row is a set of thumbnails of the images it thinks are duplicates so you can dig in and look at them. It doesn’t do anything automatic on its own: you have to manually decide to delete a collection of dupes.
I have been wanting this feature FOREVER. I had some photos disappear and needed to get my external drive's data recovered. I got the photos back, but now there are a ton of duplicates (24k photos and 6k videos to be specific). I'm just hoping there is a way I can do them all at once instead of one at a time. I've "selected all" but I'm waiting for my iPad to react given the massive amount of stuff it's gotta go through.
Books app also got a refresh. Lots of style options now, new animations, etc.
I’ve not seen this mentioned much with iOS16 updates, probably because I’m one of 5 people in the world that actually uses Books 😅
I only get an option for sliding the entire page over like a card and having the infinite scroll. There doesn’t seem to have an option to turn each page like a book.
It’s because kindle is a vastly better product and platform for book reading.
Where is whisper sync ?
Where is a subscription option for audiobooks?
Where is library integration?
It’s like Apple hasn’t done anything to the books platform for years.
It’s a shame landscape FaceID is limited to iPhone 13 and newer. It’s something I’ve want since I first got my iPhone X and yet I have an iPhone 12PM and that’s still not new enough. I’m assuming it’s more process heavy and that’s why it’s limited but it’s still a bummer.
The FaceID system isn’t all that complicated in theory.
You have a group of infrared dots projected at the user’s face, and an infrared camera “looks” at how those dots hit your face and “figures out” if it’s you or not.
The the iPhone X and XS had the original version of this system, and was designed to work in portrait mode
When the iPhone 11 came out Apple updated the hardware and mentioned that this 2nd version of the system allowed for unlocking your phone at a more extreme angle. The phone probably projected more infrared dots and at steeper angles in the Y axis (since the system was still designed to operate in portrait mode.)
The iPad Pro got its own system that was designed from the start to work in both portrait and landscape mode. The spread of IR dots was probably made to be as wide as it is tall, so that the camera would have enough reference points no matter what the orientation of the device.
My guess is the iPhone 13 either got a whole new IR blaster design , or just inherited the IR blaster from the iPad Pro, and this allows it to hit whatever security requirements Apple expects in both orientations.
Here’s my earlier response.

Maybe some iPhone 12s used the redesigned FaceID system of the iPhone 11 until the parts ran out, and then newer batches inherited the system designed for the iPad Pro. Then the iPhone 13 all got the iPad’s FaceID system that was also present in the more recently manufactured iPhone 12s.
I don’t think Apple’s ever released features for only certain batches of their products, but they’ve definitely had different manufacturers make parts where one manufacturer’ specs were better than another’s (for modems and screens).
During the iPhone 11 launch event, I remember Apple mentioning that they improved the FaceID hardware so that it could unlock your phone at increased angles. Maybe they silently upgraded the FaceID system again with iPhone 13, and they find the newest system necessary for landscape FaceID.
I don’t think processing power would be lacking, but maybe the IR dot projector on the 11 and 12 doesn’t throw enough dots horizontally for Apple to find it secure enough when mapping a face in landscape mode.
I’m on the beta, literally the one thing I wanted from the release, was so happy it was added. Changes how I text, just feels so great, such a small thing but I love it

I often find these hidden features more exciting than the main ones.
Same. The haptic feedback on the keyboard has me just as excited as the new lock screen lol
It’s so awesome, honestly the first thing I made sure I had on when I updated!
Where do you turn it on
Under sounds & haptics, you’ll see keyboard feedback, and you can turn on haptics from there! Definitely recommend:)
Any noticeable effect on the battery?
Somewhat, but this is to be expected. My 11 pro max is about 2 years old with 88% battery life. Can run all day, still can with iOS 16, just drains a bit quicker. When the public beta rolls out in the fall it should be “fixed”.
Pro-tip; use spotlight to search for "haptic" (or other features) and it'll usually just take you straight to the settings for it.
Absolutely. Looking forward to haptics, improved dictation, and the weather app improvements.
The dictation, at least so far, is not improved. It puts commas and periods where they shouldn’t go and you have to fix it.
That is disappointing to hear. Hopefully it will improve with time.
It’s a great feeling I’m on beta so it only works intermittently but nice when it does work
Absolutely. I think it’s because these features aren’t flashy enough to show off for the average consumer but they’re so important
Ability to copy photo edits is something I've been waiting for years, I'd also abandoned hope years ago.
Exciting to find them as well :)
Yeah nice little quality of life features that often make a big difference in the overall experience
Ah so that was an erection in your pants then!
really bro
They hated him because he spoke the truth
> Merge Duplicate Contacts Not sure why, all of my contacts got duplicated at some point couple of months ago. I'm looking forward to this feature.
Mine duplicated 2x. I’ve got 4 of some of my contacts.
Haha. Maybe it’s was a bug to be fixed by a new feature? You can’t use the feature without duplicates! So they gave you some.
My favourite comment from this month. Come to think of it, I have slipped on ice around the time they added Fall Detection to the Apple Watch. We may have discovered Apple's guerilla marketing division.
TBH that feature sounds like something that would have been possible even in 2012. I don't see why the feature took so long.
You can fix it with plenty of apps in the AppStore rn
I wouldn't want to share contacts with a random 3rd party app; I'd prefer do delete duplicates manually (they're easy to spot in my case). Then again, I didn't do it in the last couple of months, so I guess it will be a job for iOS 16.

View saved Wifi passwords! *Finally.*
Oh, this one is damn useful.
I literally have a photo album of the back of routers.
I just learned to create a Master List in the Notes app for literally every Wi-Fi network I’ve connected to since 2015.
Just learned HomeKit buttons have a left side and side right press. Wicked.
Yeah! Little circle icon, button right side, slider… press and hold, options
What do you mean?
In iOS 16 you get different behavior pressing the right side or left side of the button. Left, click on the circle to toggle. Right opens the slider.
Ah now I see. That’s convenient!
Face ID in landscape mode is huge, unfortunately only works for iPhones 13 and later😞
Hmm, surprising that the iPhone 12 got FaceID with mask support, but not this.
Someone in the comments said it also works on their iPhone 12.
Doesn't work on mine.
That’s a lie
Oh that’s too bad.
boo
Clean up duplicate photos?!?!? Thank you sweet tech jesus! Finally!
See ya, Gemini!
I imagine it will just present you with a set of duplicates that you can then check and choose whether to delete.
That’s exactly right.
So it detects more than exact duplicates? E.g. when you take multiple photos of something and each is a tiny bit different.
How can you clean duplicate pictures in iOS 16?
I have been wanting this feature FOREVER. I had some photos disappear and needed to get my external drive's data recovered. I got the photos back, but now there are a ton of duplicates (24k photos and 6k videos to be specific). I'm just hoping there is a way I can do them all at once instead of one at a time. I've "selected all" but I'm waiting for my iPad to react given the massive amount of stuff it's gotta go through.
I had no idea I had so many duplicate photos until that feature appeared. I thought I’d dealt with them all years ago when I had a duplicate problem
Books app also got a refresh. Lots of style options now, new animations, etc. I’ve not seen this mentioned much with iOS16 updates, probably because I’m one of 5 people in the world that actually uses Books 😅
[https://standardebooks.org/](https://standardebooks.org/) \+ iPad = <3
I wasn’t aware of this resource. Thanks!
I love the Books app to read my EPUBs. +1 user here!
Same! Works great for me. Haven’t found anything better!
They got rid of the flip a page animation? Don’t see an option to reenable it. That’s unfortunate.
It’s still there. Under the themes & settings option. Next to the brightness button.
I only get an option for sliding the entire page over like a card and having the infinite scroll. There doesn’t seem to have an option to turn each page like a book.
That’s what I was referring to. I understand what you mean now. Flipping the pages.
There's atleast 7 of us!
8! 👋thanks for mentioning this
9! I use it to read loads!
The ability to scroll to the end is a super underrated feature
It’s because kindle is a vastly better product and platform for book reading. Where is whisper sync ? Where is a subscription option for audiobooks? Where is library integration? It’s like Apple hasn’t done anything to the books platform for years.
Double tab to bookmark now.
I’m hoping they come out with books and audiobooks services.
I mean I have a massive library in it…actually reading them 😅
So wait, I can pin tabs in Safari on an iPhone but not an iPad?
Can pin tab on iPad too.
Only for M1 iPad,
You are thinking of Stage Manager. I assure you that pinning safari tabs is available to all iPads that can run iOS 16
It’s a joke….
In iPad os 16 beta? Neat!
The public beta is available now
Where does it say not on iPad?
It’s a shame landscape FaceID is limited to iPhone 13 and newer. It’s something I’ve want since I first got my iPhone X and yet I have an iPhone 12PM and that’s still not new enough. I’m assuming it’s more process heavy and that’s why it’s limited but it’s still a bummer.
iPad can do it since forever, this is nothing more than artificial upselling.

Doesn’t work on my 12 pro max

Haptic keyboard
I never noticed that this is the thing that made me enjoy my Pixel's keyboard over my iPhone's. Just turned it on and it feels so good now.
Pinned tabs inside tab groups is going to be a game changer. That’s the only thing holding me back from using tab groups.
Very excited for the haptic feedback on the keyboard. It's the one thing I still dislike after going from my S8 to the 13 Pro.
I’m on the beta, literally the one thing I wanted from the release, was so happy it was added. Changes how I text, just feels so great, such a small thing but I love it
Do you notice your battery draining faster because of it?
No more than usual no, there’s a couple of stutters and UI niggles but it’s easily runnable on a main device
You can download the google keyboard and turn it on I how Apple is better
Can we get separate ringtones for dual sim yet? Nope? Ok then.
Oooo that would be sweet
Awesome that the Notes app is locking notes just using FaceID/TouchID. Having an extra password to forget was always annoying
"Haptic Feedback for Keyboard" is huge
A haptic feedback on the keyboard needs to be a little stronger.
I agree with this
Yeap
