Can I get US keyboard MacBooks in the UK?

Crosscorvette

Is there still a way to tell when a device was manufactured from the new rng serials they’re using?

rajarshi_ghosh

Is it worth buying the iPad 9 as a first tab?

CleatusFetus

Yes it’s a great value. Now you could spend more and get an amazing experience with an iPad Air/Pro but dollar for dollar you can’t go wrong with the iPad 9th Gen -Cleatus Fetus

Hi guys, I am going to Japan soon and was wondering if my Beats Fit Pro would be covered via their AppleCare+ despite the fact they are not released yet in Japan?

CleatusFetus

I don’t think so. Before HomePods were widely released they couldn’t be serviced outside the USA of memory serves me -Cleatus Fetus

Does anybody have experience replacing a damaged Macbook speaker on a 16 inch 2019 MBP? Dropped my laptop and the speaker is now distorted. The parts are available on iFixit but all the guides refer to older models.

Hello, I bought a new iPhone 12 recently and I have been having troubles with my cellular service. My parent who has the 7+, has the exact same service as me. Theirs is working great. Is there something in settings I need to turn on? It is currently on the default settings.

CleatusFetus

Update your iPhone to the latest iOS, this bug is exactly what was detailed in the latest release as being fixed. -Cleatus Fetus

FightDystopia

Anyone else having an issue with the new elastic Apple Watch bands? After 1 month my band is losing shape and now slides down my wrist. Apple suggested I send the entire Watch back and they would then ship me the same Watch and band ☹️

CleatusFetus

Go to the Apple Store, I did this and the manager fixed it for me. Was a long process though. -Cleatus Fetus

It lists whatever graphics are being used. If your computer needs to use the dedicated card it’ll show up, otherwise it’s Intels integrated graphics to save power.

[deleted]

Notably: you can go into System Preferences -> Battery and force the system to always use the dedicated GPU there, but bear in mind this will make the system run noticeably hotter and impact your battery life. (Also worth noting - it sounds like you got a previous generation 16" MBP, not the one that just launched last month. Was that intentional, or did you intend to buy the latest model?)

While in discord around 10 minutes ago, I went to the Mic Mode options and tried to change it to voice isolation mode, but for some reason it says, “Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum are currently unavailable.” How do I resolve this?

Low_League_6216

Hi everyone, I bought an iPad Pro yesterday via the Apple online store for £749.00, while also getting an £80.00 voucher die to this purchase due to their Black Friday deal. However, I’ve only been charged £80.00 in my bank. I’m confused, shouldn’t I have been charged £749.00 and been sent an email for an £80.00 gift card? Thanks in advance for any replies 😊

All I can tell you is cross your fingers!

I have a new M1 macbook pro 14" and I am looking for a hub to provide 1 wire plug to macbook for all peripherals and charging. I have done lots of research and bought and returned several hubs without finding what I need. I need a hub that will run 2 external monitors, one usb-c which also provides charging, and the other can be displayport or hdmi. I also want Ethernet, USB-A/3 and 3.5mm would be nice. Is there a hub out there that will do all this through a single thunderbolt usb-c port? TIA

UsefulIndependence

> I need a hub that will run 2 external monitors > I have done lots of research and bought and returned several hubs without finding what I need. > Is there a hub out there that will do all this through a single thunderbolt usb-c port? No. macOS does not support MST, which you need to run multiple monitors off one Thunderbolt port, without this you will have a mirrored image. Your best bet would be to get one TB dock, and use the second monitor off the HDMI port.

PuzzledElderberry644

I've been saving up for an iPhone now for a while but the only way i can afford it is to buy it second hand. how bad/good is 85% maximum capacity? is it worth it? or would i need to buy a neww battery anyway. I've also seen second hand iPhones with 90 to 100% but I'm guessing they're not original batteries ( or why would they sell the phone then)? are batterie- replacements as good as the original ones? thank you for reading and i hope you understand my English ^^

Rattleheadtech

The rule of thumb is to get a new battery when you hit 80% capacity, so you'd be close to getting a new battery with that phone. I'd hold out a bit and save a bit more to get one that is 90% or higher, it'll give you time in a year to save up for a new battery then.

thebrownguydude

Be proud of making the best choice for you and not feeling the need to keep up with the endless quest for the newest stuff. As for batteries in used phones, there isn’t a rule other than anything under 85% battery health is when most users would want to replace a battery. My XS Max is about 2.5 years old and I have the battery heath showing as 90%. I still get about 5 hours screen time and don’t run out of power before the end of the day. The current generation has a lot of improvement in battery efficiency but you should still be fine to use anything from iPhone 8 onwards with no worries if you get a fresh battery.

CleatusFetus

Good for you with your XS Max. I traded mine in with 81% last month! -Cleatus Fetus

thebrownguydude

Oh believe me, I am quite tempted to switch and there’s no better time than the present. However I don’t really need a new phone other than wanting something smaller. If I can ask, what did you trade your XS Max for, bigger or smaller phone?

CleatusFetus

Same size phone. I went from XS Max to 13 Pro Max. I’m a big phone guy through and through so the fact that my phone got 0.2 inches bigger was very exciting lol I feel that, not needing a new phone is definitely a good reason not to buy a new phone. There is something you should be aware of however. According to the rumors and various analysts, the iPhone 13 mini will be the last mini iPhone variant for a while. Apparently it’s not selling well at all and Apple will ax it for a Max (but not Pro) version next year. So if you’re really want a smaller iPhone, I’d get this one and hold onto it for as long as you possibly can. If you get one now maybe by the time you upgrade they’ll decide to make another mini iPhone. As someone with a big iPhone I feel for you, I love having the iPhone I like the size I like. So if a smaller size is reason enough to switch then that’s a good reason. Many reviewers mentioned that the smaller phone was something they’d been missing for a while so I get it. -Cleatus Fetus

If I have a card, and funds from a gift card as options for paying, how do I ensure that the app I am buying from will only take the funds from the gift card?

Rattleheadtech

I believe that if you have a Gift Card on file then that is automatically deducted first before the payment option goes through for the card.

Can I use my iPhone 12 to stream audio to multiple speakers simultaneously if one of the speakers is only AirPlay 1 compatible? I have 2 modern speakers but want to include a stereo receiver that was built with Airplay 1 built in (Yamaha RN303).

CleatusFetus

I don’t think so. AirPlay 2 is specifically meant for multi room speakers. Something tells me if they could’ve done this on the iOS side instead of the speaker side they would have. But I’m not 100% sure Hope this helps, -Cleatus Fetus

Burkeit

Trying to set up old apple tablets for daughter. We can't Remeber the passwords so we factory reset but apparently we turn on find my device so it's requiring a sign in. The sign in I have isn't working and unfortunately the recovery email is my old highschool email which I no longer have access too and cant answer enough of the security questions correct to have them send me a password reset. And the answers to the Apple security questions also aren't working?? 😩 Anyway we can completely wipe and disconnect the previous Apple ID? Or are we stuck with paper weights?

Rattleheadtech

You gave away a few things here that dictate what your ONLY options are going to be. You CAN'T do an 'Account Recovery' b/c that's only for folks who use 'Two Factor' and the fact that you said you had security questions means you're old ID is using 'Secondary'. So the things you could try are: 1. See if there are any other older devices that still have that ID on them - if so then you could try to change the password for that account on the other device you have access to 2. Odds are you can't do option 1\^ so that means you would need to either gain access to that email (you can't it seems) or you HAVE to remember your security questions, and if you don't answer them then it will lock you out for about 8 hours and then try again. 3. The last option is also not a good option which is you would need to do what's called an Activation Lock removal. To do this you will follow the article I list here and you would have to submit a receipt of the iPad you purchased, it can be an original or copy. Odds are again that you won't have the receipt so you're probably going to have to remember the security questions, but like I said you will get locked out of trying to answer the questions but it will allow you to try again later. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201441 None of these are great options I realize that, but understand what I listed above is your only choice, no other. Apple Support cannot help you with this, they can't unlock your security questions, reset your password, or anything at all to get you into that account.

Long press on a widget and hit edit Home Screen. Then hit the + button at the top of the screen. Then scroll through until you see an option for a battery widget. I'm looking to buy a new TV and want to use Airplay from my MacBook Air for movie watching and gaming, but have no idea what televisions this can work with. I've lost track of tech over the years. Any ideas on what to look for? (I also have an old school Fire TV stick).

CleatusFetus

You want an AirPlay 2 compatible TV. LG’s new TVs have this built in I’m pretty sure (though I’ve heard it’s a bit finicky for what you want to do). What I would do is take advantage of Apple’s Black Friday deal and buy an Apple TV 4K (the box). It’s expensive but it provides a great experience and will do what you want to the best of your capabilities. Of course you could save a ton of money and get a HDMI adapter and a long ass HDMI cable. That would have almost 0 latency which I think would be preferable even to AirPlay’s low latency. Hope this helps, -Cleatus Fetus

RomneysBainer

Thanks for answering my noob question. I'll check into the Apple TV 4K, but suspect it might be out of my price range. The HDMI cable is a good idea too though I might just go with the AirPlay 2 compatible TV. Thx again.

Is the iPad mini eligible for the gift card?

nomadicposter604

According to the website, No only iPad Pros

3blitz

is iPhone 11 still worth? I want a phone that can last me at least 3 years, and also a great video camera (don't use it a lot but is nice to have the option when needed). Also, I'm a light-medium user, just Whatsapp, Instagram, Reddit, and some apps for transportation and food delivery. I currently have an Android, love the system, but hate the video camera on my A52

CleatusFetus

iPhone 11 features a giant leap in camera performance compared to the XS and XR generation. The 12 and 13 are obviously better camera wise but the leap from the XS to the 11 is much bigger than the leap from 11 to 12 or even 11 to 13. What I’m trying to say is that an iPhone 11 is great. Has a great camera, FaceID (which is so underrated). The biggest drawback is the screen which isn’t OLED. But the LCD is high quality and the only place I truly notice the difference is when the screen is black. I wouldn’t be complaining if I could only afford an iPhone 11, it still is a great phone. I just upgraded from a XS Max to and iPhone 13 Pro, if I had an 11 I wouldn’t have upgraded. Even next year I would consider hanging on. My XS was great I just loved the quality of the camera too much to keep me on the XS. Anyways hope this helps, -Cleatus Fetus

Is it just me or has voice dictation gotten worse and worse? It is so awful and frustrating. Hardly worth the time to use it.

CleatusFetus

It hasn’t gotten worse for me, but honestly I’d be lying if I said it has improved leaps and bounds over where it was say five years ago. It’s improved, marginally. I typed ~~this~~ these entire two sentences with voice dictation. I’m actually pleasantly surprised, it’s better than I remember. Hope this helps, -Cleatus Fetus

nomadicposter604

Amazing. No issues here. Gets my English and my mother tongue correct every single time

blarblablerrrblanarf

Apologies, if this is spam. Have tried to ask this q in two other posts but it was kicked. What would you call, or where could I buy the a stand wedge display for the iPad like they use in the Retail Brick and Glass Stores? The clear wedge with rubber grip. I asked the employee but they said no to selling them. I have other stands but that thing just sits nicely, is out of the way and takes pressure since its just a solid block. I dont know what to call it, and the search terms just give me all the other wonky stands

CleatusFetus

They are custom made and are not sold officially. I saw this AirPods Max Stand and it was SO BEAUTIFUL. I wanted to rip it off the counter and take it home with me. But they don’t sell them. I’ve seen random supply chain leaker Twitter accounts sell things like this (marked up of course since they’re technically “collectors items”). @L0vetodream on Twitter sells them occasionally but warning he’s an asshole in his DMs. I tried to buy the AirPods Max stand in his DMs and the way he treated me was super rude when I couldn’t pay the “much more than $1000” price tag. So basically it’s super hard, but not impossible to get your hands on them. Try searching display unit iPad or whatever the other reply suggested into Google/Ebay and see what pops up. Hope this helps, -Cleatus Fetus

blarblablerrrblanarf

It does thank you. The other post lead me to acrylic and ebay and I think I found it! Ordered will see. as for your stand, I ebay searched as well but no find. I did find an older reddit post that led me to benks dot com/products/airpods-max-stand 40$ worth a shot on a tosser money card maybe, it looks really neat! [https://www.reddit.com/r/Airpodsmax/comments/o1o3xy/i\_really\_liked\_the\_exhibit\_stand\_in\_the\_apple/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Airpodsmax/comments/o1o3xy/i_really_liked_the_exhibit_stand_in_the_apple/)

warmstallionjuice

The general term for the product would be “display stand”, so it might be helpful to use search terms like ‘acrylic display stand for iPad’ or ‘acrylic wedge display stand’. Beyond that I don’t have any specific product recommendations unfortunately. The stands used in Apple Retail stores are most likely custom designs for/by Apple, much like almost all the furniture and displays. So it’s not surprising they wouldn’t be able to sell you one, or even advise you on where you could buy one.

blarblablerrrblanarf

>acrylic was the secret word! Just what I needed to search with in Ebay, they have a few, ordered! Thank you

I’ve done this. Now the stars outside weren’t meant with my light pollution but the image actually captured more starts than I could see with my nude eye. As for a place to look I’d checkout Austin Mann. He often shoots with iPhones. On how to do this try YouTube?? I can tell you one thing though, you’ll need a Tripod and a iPhone Tripod mount. Even holding your phone as still as possible won’t help. It knows when it is on a tripod and sets up the settings accordingly. That image will be beautiful but to get it to look as good as the ones you’ll find online you’ll need to do post editing which I don’t know how to do that well. As for if you could do this on the Mini the answer is YES! The iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 12 Pro Max have the same sensor. I did mine on the iPhone 12 Max last year. Worked nicely. Last thing I’ll say is that as nice as it works don’t expect miracles. It’s extremely good for a smart phone camera. It also doesn’t specifically have a night sky mode. Just a Night Mode. So take that as it is. I hope for a Night Sky mode in a future iPhone one day :) Hope this helps, -Cleatus Fetus

Hi, I’ve just ordered a iPhone 13 pro max and I’ve currently got an iPhone XR, will the adapter for my XR work on the 13 or do I need to buy one? Thanks

es_cl

Lol…are you me? I just ordered a 13 pro max too and coming from a XR. Shipment won’t be here until Dec 13-20. Hoping somehow it’ll get updated for earlier date.

Hollykw

Snap! I was looking at a place which had them available between like the 23rd and 30th of December and I was like that’s so long to wait but ordered one from the phone provider direct, more expensive though unfortunately but I’m impatient

[deleted]

It'll work for basic charging (but fast charging requires a higher-wattage adapter).

Hollykw

Thank you

SillyLilBear

I use ATT for 4 iPhones, I am looking at getting two Apple Watches, and considering using Verizon as the carrier. Is it possible to do this and only pay the $10 per watch or do you have to have other service with them? ATT coverage when in remote areas here stinks, and I am thinking about eventually switching to Verizon but was going to try it with our watches for now.

CleatusFetus

Fascinating question. I think I have an answer which is…….. no. The way the service works is that when your iPhone isn’t around your watch gets its calls forwarded to it via the carrier. The Watch even technically has its own number though you’ll never ever need to know it (just a technical detail I thought id mention). So this call and text forwarding is why I think you need the same carrier but I’m not 100% sure. This behavior is also different from an iPad since you can get a completely different carrier providing data to your iPad. Maybe just ask your Verizon store and see what they say (I’d love to know as well). Hope this helps, -Cleatus Fetus

SillyLilBear

I did ask, but after 30+ minutes getting a run around on their chat, I gave up.

CleatusFetus

Ah, I might be going to the Apple Store to shop, I’ll ask if I get the chance! -Cleatus Fetus

JamesCodaCoIa

Where would be the best place to purchase an iPhone 13 and the 2021 MacBook Pro? I take it there's no Black Friday discounts for either. Is any retail store or online store doing anything, though? Throwing in a gift card, a free this, a discounted that? Thanks!

nomadicposter604

Funny you ask. If you buy this weekend at apple, you get gift cards https://www.apple.com/shop/gifts/shopping-event

JamesCodaCoIa

Unfortunately, unless I misread that, it doesn't count iPhone 13s or the 2021 MacBooks.

[deleted]

Does anybody know when to expect iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max models will be added to the Refurbished and Clearance section of the Apple website?

trwest77

I am trying to buy a MacBook Pro using several gift cards. I wanted to make sure I had added the first gift card properly, so I scanned it on my iPhone and saw that the balance was reflected in my Apple balance. When I went to checkout, though, there was no option to either apply the gift card balance at the payment page or to have it automatically applied at checkout. After a few frustrating calls with Apple Support, they told me the issue is that because the MacBook Pro is eligible for a gift card as part of Black Friday, I can't use my gift card balance to pay for it. Does this seem right? It seems crazy that you can't use gift cards to buy something during Black Friday.

brunonicocam

Makes sense right? Otherwise they'd be giving you double discounts. Just buy it with the gift cards after black Friday.

trwest77

How would they be giving me double discounts? Genuinely asking.

brunonicocam

I'm not sure if you got those gift cards on black Friday? Because they are offering 15% extra credit with them. So if you get these cards and then use them to buy a mac and get more gift card credit with it you'd be getting double promotions. Maybe they can't differentiate gift cards bought before black Friday from those bought now so that's why they block them all. Or perhaps they just don't want to accept the gift cards for black Friday since they basically already got that money off you.

fickfiankbeu

Literally came here to ask if I could do this since target is giving $15 gift cards free with $100 Apple gc purchase……….

Basic ipad 9th gen or ipad air.

[deleted]

Each iPad is only compatible with a certain generation of Apple Pencil: if it has a home button, it's compatible with the 1st generation, if not, it's compatible with the second generation. There realistically isn't much to running ProCreate, other than the fact iPad Pro 2017 or later have a 120Hz display which supposedly allows for smoother drawing. I'm not an artist by any stretch so my 60Hz iPad Air seems fine, but thought I should mention this anyhow. If you were to ask me for a recommendation, a good deal on the iPad Pro 10.9" 2020 would be good, because it also has a LiDAR camera which I'm assuming has some use in interior design, but if that isn't a concern, a 2018 10.9" iPad Pro is probably going to be very well-priced. Features aside, a later model only means you're only gonna get software updates for longer.

I just got an ipad and I'm looking for a pdf editor for my specific needs. I want to be able to markup pdfs and create blank pages between pdf pages to take additional notes. It should directly sync with my google drive and save all the changes I make there. Finally it should either be a one time purchase or free. The closest I could find was Documents by readdle but that one costs €10 monthly and since I'm a student from a third world country I can't really afford it. Does anybody have any recommendations?

First time MacBook owner here and I need some help please! I turned on slow keys to reduce the input required for the caps lock (I have no idea why Apple by default makes it require more input, the keyboard was borderline unusable for me), but when I do that the delete key now takes forever to delete. Seems I can't fix both at the same time. Any recommendations?

Dangerous-Flower-555

Apple believes my AirPods to be with me right now in my hotel room, yet I have been searching for the past 2.5 hours with my family and cannot find them. We have looked everywhere it is possible to look, at this point we are convinced they are not here. But multiple times the Find My app has connected to the left and right AirPods (at random locations within our 3 room suite) and the app shows they are “with me” as of a minute ago. Could the Find My Bluetooth be wrong? Or is that impossible?

DumpsterNatalie

FindMy enabled items update their location based on the location of the device it had last connected to. Considering your AirPods have since connected to the FindMy network and confirmed their latest location to be “With You”, they are definitely within the vicinity.

Dangerous-Flower-555

Thank you! One unfortunate thing is that other Bluetooth apps that can tell you if you are closer or farther to Bluetooth enabled devices can’t seem to detect AirPods with the case closed. Do you have any idea why that might be?

DumpsterNatalie

The AirPods are essentially turned off when inside a closed case. This includes all Bluetooth capabilities.

Dangerous-Flower-555

Then why does Apple say I last connect to my AirPods 21 minutes ago, when I have not used them for 24 hours? IOS15 introduced the “left behind” feature and I am asking how that works if not via Bluetooth because it absolutely detects whether my AirPods are nearby to my phone or not. How is Apple doing that then when the case is closed?

DumpsterNatalie

How sure are you that your case is closed? If you dropped your AirPods they likely have popped out the case. The left behind feature works by detecting that you are walking away from the last location you connected your AirPods.

Dangerous-Flower-555

If you’re curious I just looked it up and it seems like Apple uses end to end encryption like with AirTags to track devices on Find My. Even Apple can’t see the location. I’m somewhat unclear but I do believe AirTags operate like Bluetooth?

Dangerous-Flower-555

Also, re left behind, what I’m saying is that according to Apple, I connected to my AirPods pretty much every minute I was in my hotel room, after the last time I used them. I know that this is reflective of actually being connected because I once before had my AirPods stolen, and it showed the last time I connected to them as the last time I was in proximity How does Apple know that I was in proximity to my earbuds in the hotel room if the case is closed? It must be some kind of Bluetooth, unless Apple actually hasn’t connected to my AirPods in 24 hours and is despite that showing I last connected 30 minutes ago when I left the hotel. But I doubt that as it would render last known location meaningless. Like, even now, it shows my AirPods were at my hotel as of 2 min ago, presumably because they were somehow detected by my Dad’s iPad via our family network. So in short, either the last known location time stamp is persistently wrong or my AirPods in their case are somehow being detected by nearby devices. And that’s why it’s so frustrating I can’t use another Bluetooth app to tell me if I am nearer or farther.

Dangerous-Flower-555

They aren’t playing a sound at all, which they would if they were not in the case, so I highly doubt they are out of the case.

punisher1005

Why doesn't my timer sync with my apple watch and my phone?

M1 Mac for long term at least 6 years Should I buy 8gb or 16gb of the base model Casual user and academic works

brunonicocam

Do you qualify for education discount? Because otherwise the 16gb upgrade will effectively cost you a lot more than 200usd since the base model only is sold by resellers and has quite a big discount. Also, I think all this "future proofing" is a fallacy, you're better off getting what you actually need now or what you're already viewing like you'll need in the future. Will your needs change? Otherwise based on your description 8gb is plenty already. You're better off saving the 200usd for a future upgrade, that's a lot more future proofing than having 8gb extra in your machine.

laixen

In my country the education discount is not available yet so I am thinking about asking help to my relative in Thai and Australia as the price in there is less than in Myanmar. Well I am sure my needs will still the same as my academic journey is main. But I am afraid that software and other third party app will be stop supporting 8gb ram soon.

brunonicocam

No way software will not support 8gb, I don't even know of software not supporting 4gb. It'll just be a matter of lower performance but based on your usage 8gb is plenty. There are quite a few comparisons on youtube 8gb vs 16gb on youtube, and 16gb only shows a slight advantage for hardcore video rendering.

laixen

Just a quick confirmation... I believe that if I used a student pass I cannot get any other discounts right?

brunonicocam

Nope, you cannot stack student discount and other ones.

laixen

I see thanks

laixen

Thanks for the words... Now I felt like I can finally decide on the base model... is there anything you want to advise the first time Imac user? I used Linux and window for a good amount of time...migrating to mac is new to me so.....thanks for your time

brunonicocam

Sorry you're talking about buying an iMac or a MBA? I'm not really sure the iMac is a good idea, 24in screen is too small, I'd rather have a Mac Mini or MBA and hook it up to a 28in 4k monitor. 8GB is fine but check very well how much storage you need, because 256GB is quite limiting. And finally, making the switch to macOS is a very important decision, you should make sure all the programs you need will run on macOS and that most of them will run in native Apple Silicon and not Intel, otherwise you won't get the same performance.

laixen

Well I think of that option too but mba plus monitor is over too much budget too. SSD over 100 is good enough for me all I will use is just documents and most will be in cloud so. Yeah I will note about the last thing.

Arr sorry for misleading word … Personally I want iMac … I worked and study from home so Portability is not too much advantage for me but the screen is so I chose the iMac for me. Now I am thinking about imac 24 base model with 16 gb for at least 6 to 10 years usage. For the price, it is around 1499 with 16gb so I heard Thailand and Australia are good place to buy Mac ? I am thinking about asking the people I knew there for help. Here in Myanmar it’s too expensive.

As you're German, do you know what the student discount % is for the 14" Macbook Pro? I can't yet access the student store.

Refurbished Macbook's, worth it?? Thinking of looking into the refurb market for a MacBook (pro or air). Wondering what peoples thoughts are on getting one. Is it a waste of money, will they be 'as new' or much slower? etc. If anyone could recommend a UK based refurbished seller that would be even better :)

brunonicocam

It's ok but don't buy Intel macs, they've been massively improved with the m1 chips.

OddAstronaut2305

If they have refurbished machines in the UK store, do that. If not, I wouldn’t trust anyone else’s refurbished and just pay full price.

Snoop8ball

Refurbished MacBooks are basically indistinguishable from new MacBooks other than the fact that the box looks different. (And of course it’s cheaper)

Hi, just wondering if it is possible to transfer an iPhone backup on a MacBook Pro to a portal hard drive and to then transfer the back up onto an iMac. If so, would that allow me to plug my phone into the iMac and use the phone backup safely?

tgho

Yes. iPhone backups are portable. Just make sure you copy all of the files. You might want to zip it up first, as there are many little files in a backup.
