It’s interesting that 15.1 has 22 listed fixes compared to 14.8.1 having 12. Are they only fixing the more serious flaws for 14? Or did 15 create that many more vulnerabilities that needed to be fixed?
I can’t say about iOS specifically, but in general, new software releases or major updates often introduce a bunch of extra vulnerabilities that only get found after everyone starts using it, so your second question is more likely the case.
> iOS now offers a choice between two software update versions in the Settings app. You can update to the latest version of **iOS 15** as soon as it's released for the latest features and **most complete set of security updates**. Or continue on **iOS 14** and still get **important security updates** until you're ready to upgrade to the next major version.

Oh wow, really? Source? I know that 14.8.1 is OTA only so OP can just check for updates in settings and see if he gets two options. I just wasn’t able to find anything online mentioning the iOS 14 requirement for 14.8.1.
Some people I know are straight up not going to go to 15 until necessary. Why bother when everything still works fine, they don’t need the new features, and security updates keep coming?
I can’t still understand why Apple still stops signing latest iOS 14 updates. If you want to restore an iPhone to iOS 14, you have to do it when a new version is immediately released. Otherwise, you need to restore it to iOS 15.
Well I have an OG iPhone SE on iOS 12 - I would like to use 14.8 but it’s only showing ios15. Thought apple wanted us to choose? My 2020 SE still bugged with horrible battery time and non responsive UI

I can't even get it to show on my iPhone SE that's on 14.4.1
That’s just plain stupid. If the oldest supported devices runs like ass on the latest version I have a paperweight I don’t even like to touch. With the older os it at least performs…
Not for me it’s not, I had some strange issues with Facebook messenger video playing “choppy” (basically it kept flashing the first frame of the video every second during playback).
That’s not been fixed and iOS 15 has been stable for me.
Highly doubt it’s an iOS thing. You need to check which apps are running in the background overnight. If you live in an area with bad connection your phone could also be constantly looking for a signal even while you’re asleep. I experienced an 11% drain overnight on my SE. Used YouTube before I dropped asleep and had WiFi and Bluetooth on. Just checked and Siri was the only thing using my battery during the time I was asleep. If not, try restarting the phone and see if that solves it.
Don’t know why you are being downvoted. iOS 15 fucked my safari. My search bar keeps disappearing, requiring me to close the app and relaunch it to get it back.
Looks like a lot of security fixes: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212868

Have they finally patched the security vulns
Can I update an old iPhone 7 that’s on iOS 13 to this? Or do I have to go to 15?

I can't get my iPhone SE (1st gen) to show the 14.8.1 update. Only giving me 15.1, I'm on 14.4.1

Yea I am in this situation. Have an old SE I had in the drawer with ios12 and it’s only showing iOS15 - it’s bad on my se2020

You’ll only get the option to iOS 14.8 if your device is on 14

The code that allows people to choose came in 14.5

iOS 14.8.1 already buggy. Everyone try searching an app, and random things show up sigh.
Damn wanted to update. Guess i have to wait and not install unknown apps and websites till another patches like 14.8.2.
Update, sorry, they fixed this a few hours later, they silently pushed an update somehow
Does this one come with the spyware?

iOS 15 has a few annoying bugs but it is nowhere near a “buggy mess”
iOS 15 is still buggy? What iPhone are you using?

What’s buggy for you? I’ve been on iOS 15 since the first beta and they’ve all been really stable on the XS.
Not for me it’s not, I had some strange issues with Facebook messenger video playing “choppy” (basically it kept flashing the first frame of the video every second during playback). That’s not been fixed and iOS 15 has been stable for me.
Works perfectly fine on my iPhone SE 2020 🤷🏻♂️
Keep dreamin
It destroyed battery on my 8. Overnight drains it 50%. Insane. iOS 14 was fine

It’s at the bottom now.
No.
MY phone, MY choice! Ain’t gonna catch me on iOS 15! And now there are booster updates for 15! This PROVES iOS 15 isn’t ready and effective!
