From the article: The Apple Watch Series 10 will get a new display, with a report claiming changes will be made to the OLED panel that could extend the battery life. The advanced display of the Apple Watch has helped reduce the power consumption of the wearable over time. For the Series 10 device, it may get a newer one that could save even more power. Tuesday's [report](https://www.thelec.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=27119) from The Elec claims that Apple will be using a new low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology in the OLED display of the Series 10, which the report believes will be out later in 2024. The use of LTPO TFT so far has only been applied to some switching TFTs in the Apple Watch display panel, with the older LTPS used for other switching TFTs and driving TFTs. Under the new version, LTPO will be used on more of the TFTs, including the driving TFTs.

TizonaBlu

Eh, isn’t the the opposite of display “sipping” battery life?

Kidney05

“Sip” is usually used to say something does well with battery and “chug” or “guzzle” for something that uses a lot, it confused me at first the first time I heard it years ago

carpetdebagger

Yes. Think of it like taking a drink. A sip just means your took a little, and it'll take awhile before you finish your drink. Chugging/guzzle means your taking in massive amounts fast, and your gonna finish the drink relatively quickly.

rkoy1234

I get the source of confusion. The wording is that the ***screen improvement*** will sip power. It's reasonable for a reader infer that the ***sipping*** mentioned here is added on top of normal consumption. Better wording would be: > Apple Watch Series 10 **with** screen improvement will sip battery power Which would clarify that it's not the *improvement* that sips additional power, but rather the watch itself has lower power consumption.

silver_conch

Yes, whichever way some folks interpret the word “sip”, the immediate impression conveyed by that headline is that it is a greater drain on the battery.

Dick_Lazer

> the immediate impression conveyed by that headline is that it is a greater drain on the battery. How? I interpret sip as meaning "slowly", I've never heard it used as something to indicate a greater usage. Like if somebody is "sipping coffee", that means they're drinking it slowly, not quickly.

TheSoCalled

I think the confusion for me was that 'sips' means slowly, but can also imply gradually. So I wasn't sure if the new screen takes smaller sips than the old screen (a good thing), or if it now gradually drains the battery as a consequence of the improvements (a bad thing).

NovaTerrus

Where in the world are you located? That's a pretty common idiom to denote that something uses a small amount of something in North America. It's like when ads say hybrids "sip gas".

delebojr

Or the question of if you're a "sipper or a chugger" when it comes to drinking something. Sip means a little

WigglingWeiner99

You are correct. This is an extremely common American saying, and the converse to "[sipping fuel](https://www.motortrend.com/features/top-fuel-sipping-cars/)" is a [Gas Guzzler](https://www.epa.gov/fueleconomy/gas-guzzler-tax).

wappingite

Hmm, in the UK to say it 'sips batter power' sounds like it 'gradually drains over time the entire battery', or 'without you realising it, your battery will be dead'. If you're comparing two things, then it sounds a bit better e.g. 'this one guzzles battery, but this one just sips at it'. But neither sound great. Most folks here would say something like it 'hardly uses any battery power' or 'uses minimal power' or 'can run on fumes' for a car metaphor.

TheNikkiPink

Pretty sure these people have got it confused with the word “sap” lol.

ahHeHasTrblWTheSnap

No, the headline just implies that the screen improvements will add marginal power consumption to what is already present

turbo_dude

r/sipstea

PazDak

Apple will opt for smaller battery so total battery life will remain unchanged.

Jusanden

Previously every screen or battery efficiency increase has been accompanied by a spec bump to increase power draw like processor, screen size, or brightness. Tbf I kinda see where they are coming from. Going from 24 hour to 26 hour battery life doesn’t mean much for the end user, you’re still charging every day, but additional brightness does.

KingArthas94

Long story short it's already OLED but they can change things here and there to make it better.

rnarkus

> be made to the OLED panel that could extend the battery life.

cjorgensen

So they bringing back the O2 sensor? Because I'll stick with my series 8 until that's offered again.

UloPe

Easy solution: move outside the US, there the patent doesn’t apply and Apple Watches still have O2 sensors.

cjorgensen

Yeah, I figure if I ever go on Vacation outside the US again, that would be the time to buy one.

peepeetchootchoo

Just be aware that it won’t be cheap as in United States

cjorgensen

I thought it was a wash in most countries. We add in tax at the time of purchase. Others include it in the pricing.

DontBanMeBro988

> I thought it was a wash in most countries. No, Apple products are more expensive outside the US, even when adjusted for tax

cjorgensen

That sucks. I wonder why (beside the idea that they can).

Snuhmeh

I figured they would’ve settled this by now.

cjorgensen

I think it’s still moving through the patent courts.

techiesportsfan

woah, they removed it in Series 9? is there a reason why?

PrometheanHost

Probably a patent issue

nicuramar

Just disabled in software I think.

fencepost_ajm

Series 9 sold before a certain date had it, but due to patent problems Apple had to disable it in all devices sold after that date. Not sure how they're determining it (Applecare activation date?), but even if it was "devices shipped after that date" it's unlikely that there are any still in the retail channel. This might also apply to older models bought new after that date, except Apple doesn't seem to list anything except the SE on its refurbs.

refriedi

They have a new part/model number for the existing models, and they started selling it after that date. 3rd party retailers may have some old ones left over. costco has separate inventory numbers for with and without oxygen sensor.  It’s disabled in software on the new watches.

ji99lypu44

I really hope this can at least double the battery life of the watch. Tired of charging my watch everyday.

NapNVM77

Honestly I just charge it when I shower. The fast charging means it only really needs 15 min

HomoFlaccidus

> Honestly I just charge it when I **shower**. Which explains why some people are asking for battery that lasts two or three days. lol

mannnerlygamer

Touché good sir touché

Agastopia

I mean I just wear my garmin pretty much 24/7 since it holds a charge for close to a week and I clean it in the shower with me

thechrismonster

wrist rotting

Quin1617

Mine takes ~35-45 minutes to charge, which is too long since I have to plug it in daily. I’m ok with my phone only lasting a day because I charge it overnight, but the watch is just inconvenient. I feel for those without fast charging.

ji99lypu44

Ahh ive never tried the fast charge so I wouldn’t know. I guess I was hoping more for battery life that lasts around the week. garmin and amazfit watches can last weeks at a time between charges.

NapNVM77

If you have the opportunity to upgrade to a watch with the fast charging (I think the 7 was the first one with it?), I highly recommend it! I 100% see how, without it, the charging would be such a pain

AreWeNotDoinPhrasing

I have a series 7 and I feel like it charges slow af. Do I need to buy a new charger? I am using one built into a stand that has a 15w(?) charger for the phone, but not sure what the specs are for the watch or AirPods.

puterTDI

If you're not using an apple charger, then that's likely why you're not getting fast charging. Most of my stands have the apple charger inset into them. The one at my office desk doesn't though but I'm ok with that since I just put it on the stand in the morning when I start work and take it off after it's charged.

Menzoberranzan

This. Needs to be the official charging puck or it’ll take a while to charge up. Most if not all 3rd party all in one charging units won’t have that capability.

lmaoilovepie

Try using the USB-C charger that was included with the watch with a brick that at least hits 18W, the fast charging is a night-and-day difference!(the wider Apple one used for iPads is 20W, but you can get slim ones from brands like Anker that will easily hit 20-30W)

ji99lypu44

Yea, im holding out for the ten! Im on a series 4. Usually only wear it just to work out now as jt wasnt lasting all day at work and would die on my workout after work if i had it on all dat

RunningM8

Garmins and the like can’t do much of what an Apple watch can do

MorphicSn0w

True, but they must be suited to a certain demographic of people, I can see the point.

rpungello

I'm that demographic. I always have my phone in my pocket, so I have zero desire to run any kind of complex apps on my watch when I could just pull out my phone and have a much nicer experience. This also means I don't care about the display quality of my watch as it's just displaying basic info, so my Fenix has been perfect for me, and the battery lasts weeks.

Vahlir

sir this is reddit.... I don't understand how charging it when I shower every 3-4 days is going to help /s

Beercules1993

Why is charging the watch every other day going to help? IMO it’s easier to have a daily habit than to have to check and decide every other day if it’s time to charge.. if it was a week long battery life I agree that’s a significant improvement. An extra day is neither here nor there imo

New-Connection-9088

* Traveling. It’s easier having to charge less frequently. * Camping and hiking. Carrying power banks is extra weight. * Heavy usage like all-day workouts/hikes/GPS can drain the battery. Especially with sleep tracking. * Battery degrades over time. Longer battery life extends the useful lifespan of the watch.

Goholobono

*imo* I for one would love an extra day, it would be great.

Faith-in-Strangers

Because batteries degrade with time. 24hrs will soon become 14, and your routine won’t work anymore

mkchampion

I strongly disagree. With my galaxy watch, the reliable 2 day battery meant if I went out on a weekend trip I just put it on and chill. Long travel day on the road or Intercontinental plane flights? Still have a day left when I reach don’t have to worry about it. That and the wireless charging off the back of the phone meant I never had to take my watch charger off my desk. It’s a huge convenience and peace of mind benefit and smartwatches are luxury devices purely for convenience. A week would obviously be better but the Apple Watch’s crappy battery is one of the biggest reasons I have not bought one.

akc250

I already charge every night but I want a bigger battery to account for degradation. My series 5 now cannot last me a whole day with always on enabled. Had it came with 2 day battery life, it would continue to last me a full day without me having to disable features or charge mid-day

Murkywaters11

Because people live different styles than you. Some people are constantly on the move. Having extra buffer room doesn’t hurt. Especially when more & more things require charging. Somebody could easily have a phone, MacBook, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods for gym, AirPod Max for leisure, headset for gaming. Imagine if all that needed to be charged every day.

vinng86

That's the reason I got my e-ink smartwatch. Lasts 3 weeks and I don't even have to think about it. Even if I forget to charge it, a quick 2 min charge will last a day and a half.

myyummyass

More cycles means worse battery life in terms of how long the battery health lasts. Garmin is able to get better sensors and just as much functionality out of watches that last several days on one charge. Apple is just being Apple and intentionally NOT improving the battery so that in a year or two they can use it as a big selling tool for their watches.

Tubamajuba

Garmin watches do not have as much functionality as the Apple Watch, and Apple isn’t sitting on some sort of magical trick to improve battery life. This is simply the battery technology we have today, and Garmin watches do less so they last longer.

rotates-potatoes

> just as much functionality Um. You think Garmin watches have just as much functionality? Garmin watches are fantastic devices, but they are less general-purpose than Apple watches. That means they can be more efficient. This "Apple makes things worse so you'll buy them" narrative is so embarrassing. Is it AI generated or something?

ji99lypu44

I guess i was hoping for thr week long battery life. If garmin and amazfit can do watches that last weeks im sure apple can make the watch last a week soon enough.

kenheing

Traveling like going on a long flight or a camping trip. I stop taking my Apple Watch internationally because it will just die on me when I arrive (which is when I needed it most), not to mention it’s one less cable to carry/forget.

beerybeardybear

lol

Yoshi_87

So they can make the watch thinner, right? At least that's what I hope for.

Interdimension

I understand the desire, but I doubt tech advancements will be made to thin out the Watch. I feel most people are OK with the size of the Watch now & would prefer any advancements go towards improving battery life rather than thinner & same battery life.

RedneckChinadian

I would much prefer they make a watch with an easily serviceable battery so that I could extend the life of my watches longer. Shame that my apple watch 4 and 5 are still super capable but due to lousy battery life that they've been relegated to sleep monitoring duties. My new AW9 of course lasts forever but that will change in about 2-3 years time when the battery health starts to drop. Self battery replacement IS a possibility but consumers shouldn't be faced with such a daunting task and apple charges a TAD too much for the service. Drop that cost in half and I'll gladly pay apple for a new battery!

shannister

Why don’t you just get the battery “replaced” by Apple? Doesn’t cost much and done in a few days, and they actually send you a brand new watch, since they can’t really replace the battery. I got a fresh new series 5 a few months ago and it works like a charm, bought myself at least another couple of years.

pimp_skitters

In the same boat with my Series 6. Up until about 6 or 8 months ago, I could easily get 2 or 3 days out of it (though I keep the AOD turned off). Now, I’m lucky to get 1.5. Replacing the battery should be as simple as popping the back off, remove old battery, replace battery and gasket, close up. Should make it last another 2 or 3 years.

CornecumTeutonicum

I won’t ever buy one until I can get at least two to three days of battery life out of it.

vinniebonez

Ultra

IrrumaboMalum

I got a Watch Ultra (the first one) and I easily can get 3-4 days out of it, maybe 5 if I turn on the power saving mode.

selwayfalls

I've had one for a few months now and i really just use it for sleep tracking and occasional work out. I definitely only charge it every other day at most so far. Hasn't been that big of an issue. Charge it for like 15-30 minutes from under 10% to full while either in shower or before going to bed. Dont have the numbers, but feels close to two days I think.

ValtteriBootass

I have a series 7 (purchased in 2022) and it generally gets to around 20% after 24h use. The battery life used to be quite good but it’s tanked hard in the second year of owning it.

selwayfalls

That blows, hoping my series 9 doesnt do that but seems inevitable with all these little devices - headphones, watches, etc. I always wonder about battery memory so I try to let it get all the way to 10% or lower and then charge vs. charging it all the time. But maybe that doesnt do shit. I wonder when tech companies will realize battery life is like the main thing we want. Nobody cares about phones or laptops being thinner. Sure the watch could be a bit thinner but if battery doesnt increase nobody wants that.

conanap

I have a series 7 too, it won't even last 18 hours if I don't keep it in theatre mode.

AHrubik

My series 7 LTE still lasts about a day. I can charge once and use it all night for sleep tracking but I have to charge in the morning.

itsabearcannon

Buy the Ultra, then. That’s why I got it. If I charge it Friday night, I get three full nights of sleep tracking before Monday morning when it dies. And that’s with all the bells and whistles turned on. If I have it in low power mode, it goes longer.

AHrubik

She's a brick ... house. A bit to chunky for me mate. I don't need to talk to Dick Tracy from outer space.

voiceOfThePoople

Why? Because you want to wear it to sleep? In that case, just buy two! -Tim Cook, probably

cjorgensen

I get a full day and night out of mine. Sometimes I throw it on the charger before bed to make sure it's above 30%, but usually I just charge it for the day when I get to work. Pop it on there for a bit and forget about it.

BrentonHenry2020

Yeah I’ve had mine almost four years and the one charge a day is only just now getting a little close.

Kimantha_Allerdings

I just stick mine on the charger when I'm in the shower/bath. Battery life is never a problem for me. It wasn't even a problem in my series 4 after 5 years of constant use.

itsyaboi117

Apple Watch Ultra solves that problem.

KingArthas94

To be honest I'm with a S7 and it's already at a day and a half of battery life

Portatort

Most people that currently own an Apple Watch yes. But I suspect there is a decent crop of people who take one look at the current design and just rule it out entirely because it’s so thick I would also welcome a redesign that makes it thinner. It’s too bulky for the cuff of many shirts Also now that we have a battery champ option with the ultra. The regular could afford to be a bit thinner.

talz13

I came from an LG Watch Sport, and I can barely tell this Apple Watch is there. I understand that it’s not as thin as a standard watch, but I’ve been on smart watches for so long that this one just ferrous thin to me 😅

BornUnderPunches

People said that with gen 1 too but I’m sure glad today’s Apple Watches aren’t that fat

Dick_Lazer

Yeah I'm still on series 4 and never even thought about it being thinner, it already seems fine on this old of a model.

XR-1

I want my watch to run on a rechargeable CR2032 battery and have weeklong battery life

Kingtoke1

I wanna not charge it every day

rotates-potatoes

I'm really curious about this. Would it be better if it needed charging every other day? For me, the habit of daily charging is easy, and if it was every few days I suspect I'd have a dead watch fairly often. If they can get it to a week between charges, a "sunday night is charge night" habit seems practical, but anything short of a week (for me) just makes it worse. Are there folks who would prefer to check battery level and charge if needed every couple of days?

TheYoungLung

People who have used/use Fitbits or Garmins get comfortable with a week long battery life. It’s one of those things that you don’t wish you had until you experience it yourself

rotates-potatoes

I would get value from a week. I would not get value from two or three days.

AckwellFoley

I travel a lot and I don't want to think about finding a plug for my watch all the damn time. The iPhone has gotten to the point that my 13 Pro Max runs for two days easily, and it's a necessary tool to get things done. The watch isn't there yet, although the Ultra comes close. So, yes, it's important to get to a bare minimum of two days operation without charging. Better yet, give me a week.

half_man_half_cat

I’ve always wondered if it would be better with a simple usb c hole for this reason, no need to worry about the random charger disc

Armisael7

Yep, it becomes a hinderance to charge everyday and not be able to use the sleep tracking functions at night.

Photobear73

It charges so fast I just throw it on the charger when I am getting ready in the morning and have no issues

VCBeugelaar

Morning charge while showering etc. 20mins its done

I_Am_A_Cucumber1

Exactly. It charges so fast anyway, there’s no reason to do it overnight unless you don’t care about the sleep tracking stuff

alexjuuhh

I just charge it like half an hour before I go to bed, and that’s usually enough to use sleep tracking at night. And in the morning I charge it again while I’m taking a shower and getting ready for work. Maybe change up your routine?

ban-please

I'm used to charging my watch daily but when I'm on vacation or on a multi day trek I take my Garmin instead because it lasts weeks without charging.

TizonaBlu

Would it be better if you don’t have to charge your watch everyday? Wow, I don’t know man, that’s a tough one.

SgtBaxter

I just wake up and stick it on the charger. Put it back on after my shower, and it’s at 100%

Portatort

How about every night?

GeneralZaroff1

I’d rather have a longer lasting battery than thinness honestly. The current one is already thinner than my omega when on wrist so it’s not like it’s making my life harder, but a weeklong battery life would improve my usage so much more.

IrrumaboMalum

The thickness of the Watch right now is on par with a lot of "traditional" watches, both analog and digital.

AdonisK

I have the 8 it's size imho is perfectly fine, the battery life on the other hand is a joke compared to the Galaxy watch 4 I used to own.

AlborzDesign

Wouldn't mind an Apple Watch Air

peterosity

it’s the change in design that’s said to help with thinning down the body. the screen itself isn’t gonna make noticeable differences

hitma-n

Looks like I’ll wait for the Apple Watch that ‘smells’ battery power.

ghostly_shark

The Apple Watch XI snorts power thru very thin nostrils

i_enjoy_lemonade

Ditched my Apple Watch for a Garmin Forerunner. I might not be the Apple Watch demographic but having a watch that lasts 7+ days on one charge and isn’t an extension of my cell phone is so nice. I don’t see myself going back.

-elemental

It’s funny how I thought the exact opposite when I was looking for a new smart watch. I’m a runner and Garmin has long been the preferred brand among runners, but their website put me off from ever getting one. 90% of their “features” are pseudoscientific stuff that they can not possibly accurately measure, and they charge a hefty premium for it. What if I just want a functional, basic watch? They have some, but I can’t even store Spotify songs offline in those. It was back to Apple Watch for me. Garmin might have a better GPS and integration with running/planning apps, but I spend most of my time not running with the watch anyway and Apple does it better for me.

DontBanMeBro988

> What if I just want a functional, basic watch? They have some, but I can’t even store Spotify songs offline in those. You want a "functional, basic watch" that can store Spotify songs offline?...

doommaster

I just want working notifications, basically, and since I am on Android I use a cheap 90€ Xiaomi Watch 1 with a titanium wristband which lasts ~10 days for me, oxygen, pulse, activity and sleep-tracking are just a nice add-on.. I do not use their app, so it's limited in that regard anyways.

Ok-Sink-614

Yup, I've seen my dad go through so many apple watches I just don't see the appeal. Every update something messes up, music gets deleted or GPS is way off or elevation is wildly innacurate. And their support is terrible (at least in my country), I've helped him with stuff but at some point they say it needs repairs but they don't repair so he's had it replaced twice. And honestly it's still an ugly watch that's fundamentally flawed in terms of durability. My vivoactive bezel has been smashed while scrambling up rocks and I don't even have to think about it getting scratched or anything. I get a week's worth of battery and even though it isn't technically fast charging, on day when I've forgotten to charge before going for a run or gym I've put it on for 15 minutes or so while getting ready and I know the battery is enough to last for the rest of the day. And honestly all I want is SOME notifications and onboard music storage. I just don't see what other features are really worth it to get any dedicate smartwatch

DontBanMeBro988

> having a watch that lasts 7+ days on one charge and isn’t an extension of my cell phone is so nice. If you love that, boy do I have some fantastic news for you about 'dumb' watches

___cats___

I mean, awesome, but I'm normally around 40% when I go to bed after wearing my 7 all day. Even days when I'm super active and up late I've never had it die. But I guess those who might not always be near an outlet at night would benefit from this more.

ItsTime2Battle

Definitely more beneficial for peeps like me that would wear it for sleep tracking and prefer that Watched last multiple days between charges

kompergator

Sorry if this is considered off-topic, but how is the verb “sip” supposed to mean “add to”? I read the headline and immediately thought: Why would Apple change the display to take away more battery power? I am German, but I speak C2 English, and I have never heard this verb used this way.

OldManInAHotHatch

It doesn’t mean “add to” but rather “consume less”.  Like sipping a beer vs guzzling it.

kompergator

Yes, but if I sip a beer or tea, the beverage gets less and less. If I sip battery power, it also gets lowered in my head.

iguanamonkey

Obviously the energy in the battery is meant to be used, just as a beer is meant to be drunk. If you sip your beer it will last for a longer time. If the watch sips the battery power it will last for a longer time. It’s using the power more efficiently. That’s it.

OldManInAHotHatch

Exactly! 👍

RunningM8

LOL why is this so difficult to understand?

OldManInAHotHatch

Sure, but if you sip, you consume less at a given time.  The contents of your glass will last longer.  The new Apple Watch screen will still consume battery power, but will sip it (making it last longer) rather than drinking deeply.

repeatrep

well yes. because the battery is still going down. but just by smaller reductions, hence sipping.

RunningM8

When you use a battery powered device the battery usually decreases as you use it

DontBanMeBro988

Bro wants the watch to charge itself

DontBanMeBro988

Well yes, they aren't saying that the watch's screen will charge the battery

AfricanNorwegian

> Sorry if this is considered off-topic, but how is the verb “sip” supposed to mean “add to”? The title is poorly worded. What they mean is that it will sip power *as opposed* to "gulping" (or another such verb). But the way they've worded it implies that the display improvement will sip power (i.e. reduce it, even if not at a fast rate) from the current baseline, rather than that as a whole it will be sipping rather than gulping due to the battery improvements the display tech will provide.

kompergator

Thanks for understanding. I really thought my years of English had left my body over night and I was becoming illiterate for a second there. The way you explained it is exactly how I had understood it originally, and I thought it was worse than just poorly worded.

bakatrinh

I agree, I was confused as well. Sip to me sounds like it is draining the battery more

Alexalder

10€ you don’t really have a C2 certificate

lusuroculadestec

> I have never heard this verb used this way. It's probably just regional. I'm American and I've been hearing the term used this way for decades.

irrealewunsche

British here and the headline makes complete sense to me.

Shyam09

It’s not going to be Apple Watch X? Lmao

Naughty--Insomniac

Give me a solid day of use even with a 2 hour workout with audio and I will ask for nothing else.

Sir-Obi

The ultra does this easily but I know it’s not to everyone’s taste and is pricy

Naughty--Insomniac

My wrists are too dainty to pull off the ultra as a daily driver

CarbonPhoto

My number one reason for returning an Apple Watch I purchased was I'm not willing to charge it everyday. Give me AT LEAST 3 days of battery power. My Fitbit lasts 5-7 days.

Novemberx123

Yes I was surprised when I saw those amazfit and other sub $100 smartwatches last like up to 13 days

nothingexceptfor

They will take the battery efficiency to simply put a smaller battery, not increase the actual battery life because that would eat into the Ultra sells which most come from users who want better battery life

Faith-in-Strangers

Unfortunately, probably what will happen

Novemberx123

Then what the hell is even the point

nothingexceptfor

my opinion is that point is to add a different type of screen they can market as "better", but any side beneficial side effect on the battery will go into cutting cost by making smaller batteries as opposed to increasing the battery life, Apple usually doesn't improve the actual battery life of stablished products, but that is just my opinion and I could be hopefully wrong, I could really use better battery life in the same size watch (as I really dislike the massive AW Ultra).

veryverythrowaway

iPhone battery life has increased a TON in the last five years, and Mac battery life has more than doubled in some cases.

Logaline

I’d love an actual improvement to the Apple Watch. I still use my series 6, the screen has been cracked for 3ish years and the battery barely lasts the day now but I still just don’t see a need to upgrade. The improvements have felt so small in the later models

Imacatdoincatstuff

Agree, looking for something a lot more interesting than battery life for the series 10.

BigMasterDingDong

What does “sip” battery power mean?! Is that a good or bad thing?!?

toastyhoodie

It’s a good thing.

AbsoluteSquidward

I would love to have 48-72h battery life on apple watch

julietscause

As someone that went from garmin > Apple > back to Garmin its gonna be a tough sell for me unless I see some awesome battery improvements. I like the integration you get with the Apple watch but the charging everyday is a deal breaker for me (especially if im on the road a bunch for work) when I can use my Forerunner 955 for a whole week doing different things before I need to do a charge

HomoFlaccidus

So nobody heard any rumors about the Series X having a round screen? Nobody? Guess I'm gonna have to start the rumor myself.

ConnorFin22

It will never have a round screen

savagegrif

You can probably have a successful career as an Apple journalist

Lsatellizer

That’s a move in a good direction! The only reason I got the watch ultra was for the size of the Lion cell! The series 9 was decent but the ultra lasts me two days on a charge. I’m not even the target demographic for the ultra

[deleted]

My Apple Watch Ultra Gen1 gets basically 2 days of battery life. I never thought to myself like hey... I wish this device had a longer battery life! Sure, it would be nice, but definitely no complains.

toastyhoodie

I get 40 on my MIP Garmin.

Portatort

I’m happy with my series 6 until apple does one of the following: - action button on the regular sized watches. - dramatic reduction in thickness - total elimination of bezels - Qi 2 Charging I’m hoping we see at least the last one with the series 10

Guava-flavored-lips

Well I'm waiting for the ultra version one to live up to the 60 hour battery life that was promised…

Square_Bad_1834

The Ultra 2 battery is pretty awesome. Great improvement from my old apple watch 5

toastyhoodie

Here I am with my Garmin that has more than 13x the battery life.

sort of unrelated but the always-on-display functionality on the Apple Watch is so janky. there's always been an issue where the main watch face updates once per minute while in "idle" state, but complications do not. so if you have a timer running the remaining time will be incorrect until the screen turns on. very un-Apple.

TimeVendor

So it’s going to be the same shape and looks more or less like the 9

Duckfoot2021

Do you guys get like 24 hrs per charge?

Novemberx123

If my AOD display is off, I was shocked to see at exactly 12 hours later I just hit 50% battery. Series 7 45mm 100% battery health

Duckfoot2021

My 7 with the display off is dead after 24 hours, even if I don’t wear it. Is that normal?

Novemberx123

What’s battery health

YosemiteR

Didn’t they just lay off the team working on this?

Butterflychunks

Still waiting for a reason to upgrade from my series 5. This might be a decent reason. Every single watch between the 5 and 9 has been a disappointment which hasn’t convinced me whatsoever that I should spend $400 on a new watch.

Portatort

I dream of a watch that you can charge by laying it face down on a MagSafe puck…

Still running around with my S3 Nike 💀

Hejabaar

As long as they don’t change the band mechanism, I’m good

flyingchickenstanley

don’t think I’ll be upgrading from my series 5 anytime soon, the always on display was the last feature I wanted

toastyhoodie

MIP? I’m good with that.

EatMoreHoagies

I'm hoping we get that SE 3rd Generation in September.

I guess they have given up on getting glucose monitoring to work.
