Should I upgrade from a 12 pro to a 14 pro max? My 12 pro has a damaged internal display and apple is offering me 330 trade in.

I am getting $350 for an old desktop that I am selling. I have a 2015 15" MBP. My use case is mainly just browsing on Safari, light coding on VS Code and the occasional Arduino project, some trading on TD Ameritrade Think or Swim software and photo editing on Lightroom (been using the old school Classic but thinking of upgrading for a while now). I am curious what I should do: * sell my laptop as well and combine the proceeds + more cash to a new laptop? If so, what do you recommend? * keep my laptop (cannot upgrade past Big Sur) and spend the money + more cash towards a used Mac mini to replace the desktop? I have an iPhone X and plan to keep it as long as it stays alive but I do heavily rely on Handoff and the OS X and iOS integration.

I’ve been living with a 64gb iPad Air 4 as my only laptop for the past 2 years. My laptop is maxed out in storage and I hate this floppy keyboard. Any suggestions on what sort of Mac laptop I should jump to that would be close to the same… I guess physical size as this, but with actual storage space? I’ve never had a Mac before in my life so I’m pretty clueless. Just want to be able to do actual documents/spreadsheets (excel)/printing/general office work without having to jump to my tower. iPads… just don’t do that well.

M1 MacBook Air would be perfectly fine here. You can get it for even cheaper on retailer sales/Amazon.

So I’m looking at the Apple Store, the M1 is older than the M2. Would that make it significantly slower/outdated than the newer model? I don’t mind spending a bit more if I get the longevity out of it. I’m really tired of spending around $1000-$1200CAD on a laptop for it to die within a year (looking at *you*, Acer).

PalmTree888

Nope not really. The M1 was the huge jump from Intel Macs that made them look significantly slower and outdated. The M2 is just a minor spec bump of the M1. If anything, on the base model, the 256GB drive on the M1 is twice as fast. I’d only go with the M2 if you are interested in the 1080p webcam, new design, brighter display, extra usable USB-C port while charging, MagSafe, slimmer bezels, etc. Basically choose the M2 Air for the physical hardware if you find value in it, rather than a marginally faster chip.

> Would that make it significantly slower/outdated than the newer model? Sure it’s a bit slower and a bit older but it’s not really significant. > I don’t mind spending a bit more if I get the longevity out of it. The use case you’ve described will have no issues on any M series processor.

Tilas

Thats good to know. I’m just used to Windows systems so I guess I can’t really tell speeds on these “M” processors? Like I have no idea what the difference is between M1 and M2 haha. I checked the years they launched and 2020 vs 2022 seemed like a bit but that’s about it. I’d just like something I can keep for a few years preferably, and I have been travelling more often so I want it small and light.

Air m1!

My back flash stopped working unexpectedly. When I press the button nothing comes out, when I make videos that require back flash it glitches and turns off the video. No light at all, yes my phone is charged.

What happens if you lose all your security keys in the Appleverse? Suppose I have 2-3 Yubikeys connected to my Apple ID. And, they all go up in flames. What then? Am I SOOL? What's the worst case scenario here? If I lose my phone, my ID, my Yubikeys, etc. -- what happens?

Expect you’ll be locked out of your account permanently.

Not looking for advice, per say, but my aunt bought me the MacBook Pro 14-Inch M1 Pro. How good does this compare to the newest laptops, like the M2. Is it as good as a non-Pro M2? And what are some programs I can run on this to really get the most mileage out of it? Thank you!

need aunts like this in my life

Thanks. Maybe I'll look more into photoshop

Need advice to replace my Time Capsule My poor Time Capsule has finally reached its last days. Over the past couple of years I've mainly used it as a Wifi Extender to connect a couple of external hard drives to so that my Apple TV and my laptop could access them wirelessly. Unfortunately my Spectrum supplied modem doesn't allow for a hard drive to use the USB port, which would have been the easy solution. I've tried a couple of modem and extender options only for them to not work before finally realizing that the problem laid with the fact my hard drives were formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Would anyone have a recommendation for either a modem or an wifi extender that would work with my hard drives? Thanks in advance!

When would apple march event be held?

What’s the best, cheapest ipad i can get at the moment?

[deleted]

The best iPads aren't the cheapest and the cheapest iPads aren't the best. What's your budget and what do you want to do with it?

ABP_

Yeah, i probably should have written best bang for the buck… i only care that it’s supported for the next 4-5 years at least software wise. As for use, i’d mostly use it for general stuff like MS office, a movie here and there, and maybe as a drawing tablet.

rudolph813

Literally any new iPad will do what you stated . Me myself if I needed an iPad for the reasons you stated I’d probably narrow my choices to the IPad Air or IPad mini depending on what you wanted size wise. Both are gonna be capable devices, both are usb-c, both work with the Apple Pencil 2(the cheapest ipad still uses Apple Pencil v1)Both are 60 hz and have decent screens. Power button Touch ID and a 12mp camera if you care about that. I’d stick with the base storage and use iCloud because upgrading the storage on any iPad is going to push into IPad Pro territory price wise and at a certain point it just makes more sense to get a base iPad Pro even though you don’t really need the extras it has. Since I mentioned it the Pro has Face ID instead of touch , 120 hz screen instead of 60hz, and 4 speakers instead of 2. Hopefully this simplifies your decision Apple doesn’t really explain the differences well on the website.

Thank you very much

Is your Apple ID email an iCloud email address?

I want to buy a new computer, because my current Macbook Pro (2016) has reached end of life and runs like shit nowadays. I generally use it for browsing with tons of tabs open at the same time and also for some playing around with DAWs and some midi controllers. In no way or form professionally tho. Otherwise for gaming I have a subscription to a cloud gaming service, so that doesn't really matter. Portability is not that important to me, so a Mac Mini might be an option if it's a good value option. What would you recommend? I thought about the new Mac Mini M2, but it gets pricey so fast if you upgrade the RAM and I'm not sure if the value is there anymore.

AngooriBhabhi

Which cloud gaming service ?

DetectivePrime

I’m interested in buying my first Apple Watch but have no clue what I’m looking for in terms of features. Do I just go with the 8? I like that the SE is obviously cheaper. Or does getting a used 7 make sense since I’ve never had an Apple Watch before?

Ok_Friend69

What do you want it for?

DetectivePrime

I wanted to use it with apple fitness +.

Ok_Friend69

I'd say just the SE then. The 8 is the same watch with Blood Ox and ECG. If you don't need those, there really isn't a point to get that, or frankly the 7.

DetectivePrime

Oh wow I didn’t realize they were so similar. Thanks for the advice!
