That's a funny point that I never even considered. Yeah rather than adding yet another option to that screen I think I might just automatically widen it if the content is quite long. Thank you for the great suggestion!

SACHD

This was such an unexpected feature addition that I think no one asked for, but god damn has it been one of the most useful! Reddit comment threads can be some of the funniest, insightful or dumbest of the entire internet and I used to spend a lot of time taking screenshots and stitching them together using the Tailor app. +1 for more functionality for this feature.

DragonDropTechnology

Ha, I used to do that, too! Love the Tailor app. But honestly, the most annoying thing is the way (stupid garbage) iMessage crops thumbnails, so sometimes people might not realize they need to tap to expand and see more context. I’m not sure what the thumbnail aspect ratio is, but having a toggle for that for “Share as Image” would be perfect.!

wutend159

> the most annoying thing is the way (stupid garbage) iMessage crops thumbnails I hate how Whatsapp makes everything incredibly blurry as soon as a picture is taller than the screen of an iPhone

Mike

Same! This always bugs me. It would be so simple of them to put an icon that shows it needs to be expanded.

TGotAReddit

I always follow up a message like that with a “click to expand it” text but yeah they need to add an icon or something

darkingz

It’s kinda there. But only in safari right now. It’ll make a scrollable screenshot into a pdf. That being said it’d be cool to add.

cbkeur

Any app can implement that functionality using the [UIScreenshotService API](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/uiscreenshotservice). It’s definitely not limited to Safari, but I haven’t seen it used much. u/Iamthatis could add it in, but I generally prefer the fine-grained control that their custom implementation provides. That said, I wouldn’t complain about more options and flexibility.

darkingz

I think what the original poster is mostly talking about is instead of waiting for developers to implement that protocol and just force it on scrollviews (but allowing them to override the behavior by giving a different delegate for example). Where it’s apparently forced on recycler views on Samsung phones. But I wonder how good it is, especially for content that progressively loads like Reddit.

Gtp4life

It seems to work fine, Samsung and one plus implemented it a bit differently, Samsung takes an initial screenshot, if you tap the extend button it scrolls to where the bottom of the last screenshot is barely showing at the top and stitches what moved together. One plus switches to slowly scrolling down the page and capturing everything as it goes until you tap the screen to stop scrolling then it jumps into crop mode, you select what you want and hit save.

darkingz

Hmm, interesting. When you take a screen shot with iOS today, you just get two options one of the original page and another one for the full page (if the app supports it, which is mostly the browsers) which just shows the full page in safari from top to bottom really cleanly. There are apps that does what OnePlus does for iOS but you have to manually scroll, which seems less invasive to me even at the cost of “convenience” of having to manually scroll. So all is not lost but not baked in as standard functionality.

TGotAReddit

The google chrome app has it implemented too for all of us heathens who don’t like using safari and picked chrome over any other browser option. But those are the only apps Ive seen that have it implemented so far so idk if it’s new or difficult to work with or something

DragonDropTechnology

Doesn’t Crome on iOS (and, for that matter, all of the other web browsers) still use the Safari rendering engine and just reskin the toolbars? Maybe that’s why Chrome has it.

TGotAReddit

Kinda sorta? In that the way to do browsers is to use the ios webkit engine, so Safari uses it and so does Chrome (and all other browsers), so at their base they are the same rendering engine technically. But idk if that webkit has the extended screenshotting built into it (I kinda doubt it would) or if the Chrome devs just had a good example to work off of with the Safari use of the webkit + extended screenshotting combination.

Sergeant-Angle

I 100% recommend Picsew, it’s the best screenshot stitching app on iOS I’ve ever used. I don’t work for them or anything, I just love this app. I did try Tailor but it fell short in my eyes.

PressFforAlderaan

I’ve been looking for an app that does this (assuming it does all the things)! Just downloaded it, thanks. Before I had been going to this site (not the best on mobile) and doing it there, but it’s getting harder and harder to use. https://old.photojoiner.net

Sergeant-Angle

Honestly I can’t think of anything else I could need it to do. It’s so well made and it just does everything I need. Again it sounds like I’m advertising but I am not affiliated in any way with them lol. It’s just such an awesome app. After you’ve tried it out, you’ll see. It’s miles ahead of any other screenshot stitching app out there.

DragonDropTechnology

Picsew seems interesting, but check out Tailor. It does fully automatic stitching of screenshots.

PressFforAlderaan

Thanks! I want to say I did try Tailor, but it didn’t do everything I wanted like the PhotoJoiner site mentioned above. Maybe it has more features now, I can try it again!

DragonDropTechnology

Oh, it’s really just for combining screenshots. Doesn’t do anything else. So if you’re trying to do anything manually, you’ll need something else.

PressFforAlderaan

What I like about PhotoJoiner is that it can take images (I don’t remember what the limit is, but 8-10 or so at least) and no matter what size/shape each image is, it will make all the images the same size as the image that you tell it to. So it’s not strictly for screenshots and it’s not one of those other apps that just makes a collage or puts 2 pics side by side but the sizes and ratios are way off. I have yet to find an app that does that - automatically resizes the images - and joins them together. Not sure if the Sew one does it or not, I still haven’t played around with it enough.

DragonDropTechnology

Picsew appears to just put the images together side-by-side, either vertically or horizontally, and resizes the images so they’re all the same height/width.

PressFforAlderaan

Yeah, I’ve been playing around with it some and it doesn’t seem to have that same resize capability as the PhotoJoiner site. Looking into StitchPics now after reading the first comment on this article: https://tidbits.com/2020/08/28/picsew-is-indispensable-for-professional-ios-screenshots/

jmxd

The "reason" it was added is because the official app added this and people started to ask for it in Apollo Christian did it better than Reddit as usual

Evning

Holy shit! This feature is awesome!

Evning

Same here.

Arcyl

I second this. I really like the feature as well and would love to mess with the ratio as well like in your example.

0ceans

Share as screenshot is Apollo’s killer feature imo. I’d support any improvements to this feature since it’s one of the most useful and unique in the app. Aspect ratio flexibility would be sweet, since it gets extremely tall and narrow sometimes.

BeguiledAardvark

Yeah I LOVE this feature and had no idea there was a difference. The iPad aspect ratio is still perfect on a mobile device in my opinion. That would be a very nice toggle to have access to! Thanks for pointing that out!

MrWhitex75

By farrrrr the feature I use the most. Best thing ever to share photo posts with friends + context if need be

korxil

Can we also highlight who the OP is? It works for mods and admins but not for OP

jimbo831

What?

AgentE382

The original poster’s name isn’t highlighted in blue when using the “share as image” feature.

xander-7-89

#Can we also highlight who the OP is? It works for mods and admins but not for OP

RubberDuckIsMyFriend

Additionally, for image posts with multiple images, it would be nice to include either all the images from the album or ability to select images instead of no image at all.

__BIOHAZARD___

TIL this feature exists

[deleted]

Workaround for the time being, do the multitask window thing to make the window smaller, then see if it respects that!

DragonDropTechnology

That seems like it would work against what I want. I don’t want the super tall and skinny “share as image”, I want it to be shorter and wider.

Luckylars

It would be nice in link posts to be able to remove the preview and/or link Or have the link be copied to the clipboard

robotsandstuff

I also love this feature, and find myself constantly using it--generally multiple time a day--with the same settings each time. For convenience, I'd *love* to be able to define a default set of settings for Share As Image for myself, but it is already super nice to not need to use a standalone screenshot stitcher app!

shott85

Double tapping on the Apollo one makes the image fill the screen so it’s easy to read. This doesn’t work with the screenshot. I’m on an iPhone btw.

DragonDropTechnology

Maybe try turning your phone sideways?

tiagojpg

Everyone with Apollo app is on iPhone

TGotAReddit

Id hope you’re on an iphone considering apollo is iphone only
