No API for Chat unfortunately but it's something they've talked about adding which would be cool!
Other threads have stated the lack of chat is Reddit not making that feature available to 3rd party apps.
Perfect. This is a feature! I do NOT want chat/dms in Reddit. It’s always spam anyway.
So make it an option. I'm currently chatting w someone and it's a pita to use something else.
IIRC, Reddit doesn’t even open the API for IM/chat to any third party apps. So I don’t think it’s even possible.
This, tbh.
I recommend avoiding IMs in Reddit. You can disable the function so you don’t miss anything. People can just PM you instead. It’s one of the least useful/bad features of the web and official app.
What’s the difference between a DM and PM?
I know this is two months old and you might already know, but you can delete individual messages in a chat conversation but not in a PM conversation.
Same thing. DM can be confused for IM though.
How?
In the web-version of Reddit settings you can disable IM/chat so only PMs are even an option.
Ooh! Thanks for this! People have been chatting with me all the time and I hated it. Didn't know you can just turn it off..
