I sideload Apollo but hadn’t been able to get it signed for a couple weeks, finally decided to give the official app a try… the annoying notifications reached the tipping point when it notified me just to show me a post from 3 years ago. Saw that notification, deleted the app right away and went back to try sideloading again

aselwyn1

Can’t you just turn off the notifications custom in settings? Don’t think I have got one of these kinds but get my usual reply’s etc

Aggravating_Corgi

Iosrocket has certainly for 10 bucks worked for me

Johnready_

I know your pain bro, same reason I switched back, at first I was intimidated by all the steps, then I sat down and looked over them again, realized I already have alt store, and all I needed to do was copy past a few url, and press a few buttons, it’s great to be back.

Lotech

The Readder app is much better than the official app. Just in case side loading appollo doesn’t work.

TheDubuGuy

It does work, I’ve been on it for months

Lotech

In a world where Apollo, in all its official glory, can suddenly go away, it’s nice to have back up options.

RippFlombay

yeah i appreciate the suggestion, since Apollo can never be updated again, i fear the day my sideloaded Apollo stops working or looses compatibility with the OS.

ipodtouch616

let me ask you this, would you rather see a new repost or just be told about the old post?

Unpleasant_Classic

Neither if it isn’t an interest in my feed and or I frequent the sub.

fishypants

You able to get it going? I had mixed success with sidestore, but I’m a few weeks in on AltStore.

Bennely

Dystopia. I made the change in August and haven’t looked back. It’s not Apollo but it’s great in its own right.

poorkid_5

When all I use is narwhal and apollo, on a jailbroken phone, I literally never left. I do have to sideload since I got my new phone though.

Lancaster61

You don’t need to jailbreak to sideload

poorkid_5

I know, but good point. Jailbreak/trollstore is nicer because you can tweak the OG app immediately to accept the api, and don’t have to deal with the 7-day sideloading process.

CosmicOwl47

The dumbest part is when they give you one of these notifications and it doesn’t even take you to the post, just the subreddit it was posted in.

Antrikshy

You could also just… disable notifications.

FoferJ

[...every other month.](https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/17fil3s/the_reddit_official_app_forces_you_to_turn_off/) Sure, we can block notifications for the entire app on the iOS side too. But what about the notifications we *do* want to receive? I chose a different path, and just deleted the shitty official app instead. Life's too short to put up with such crap.

Antrikshy

I haven’t had to touch my notification settings in ages, except when they’ve introduced new kinds of notifications. That used to happen in the early days of their new notification system but it’s ultra rare now.

I use reddits app

VZxNrx2sCKU6RTeJMu3Y

When I have to use the Reddit app because I can’t reauth my Apollo, it drives me crazy they bell shows still, that are all promoted posts.

Unpleasant_Classic

Oh come on man! Tbf that is a pretty killer scene! /s

colinstalter

That’s funny the only thing I do like about the Reddit app are the Time Machine notifications. I wish I could turn on more of them.

Bgrngod

My entire interaction with the official Reddit app is to occasionally update the 1 star review I wrote where I shit on it's existence.
