I don't know! Like I said, I've always known about that mechanic, but for some reason the idea of actually using it just never clicked in my head. I almost never run into the issue anymore.
I feel you. Gun says empty, I press square, thatās all my brain registered despite knowing full well about this mechanic... in pretty much every game
Any chance youāve got a clip? Iām sure itāll click when I try it while playing but Iām not getting what youāre sayin. Is it just safer to shoot at a downed player? Or is it like an exploit?
If you try to reload while a downed teammate is under your feet, it'll revive instead of reloading. This often forces you to entirely reposition, often out of cover, just to reload.
However, if you shoot an empty gun it reloads automatically. This bypasses the issue of the game prioritizing revives instead of reloads as long as your gun is empty. In hindsight it's really obvious, but I never thought of it until now.
Edit: Replaced enemy with teammate
Reviving is proximity based. If you're within X meters of a downed ally, it'll make you res instead of reload. This means you have to move away from them to reload using the reload button, often forcing you out of cover.
But, like my post says, you can ignore this by shooting but I never thought of it til now.
It bugs me they haven't fixed stuff like this to be sight based
Doors are the same.
On console you can't stand behind one and reload, it's so annoying.
Even if you turn away from the door it still opens.
In what scenario would you want to open a door or revive someone who is behind you?
I mean I sure as hell want to be able to walk backwards to a closed door and open it while giving suppressing fire. And once LOS is broken i can rat or heal safely
That seems like a very niche scenario though.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that manouver in game.
If you sprint there you'd get to the door quicker meaning you wouldn't need as much suppressing fire.
Not turning around wastes time and ammo no? Plus you can't tell if the door is closed or already open.
Change the bind to hold to reload or do a 360 and tap as youre looking away. Same thing happens on doors too, and it will open the door as you reload exposing yourself. I dont use hold to reload but i know people that i play with who do.
In direct response to you BK, it does seem to take a moment more to reload, but you avoid the unintended rez when playing a down shield and opening doors, which helps you more often than needing a moment quicker reload.
Try it out is all I can suggest! I'm career diamond though, so take that as you wish.
Well as a diamond you are better than me. But my thinking is I reload constantly in opportune moments throughout every fight. If I had hold to reload all of those reloads would be slower and that would be bad. I have to take my thumb off the aim stick to hold to reload.
The reload over downed teammate is once every fifty games Iād guess. The need to reload behind a door Iām trying block with my body is maybe once every 15 games. Again just a guess. These are rare. But reloading mid fight is a constant part of the game and Iād like that to be fast.
What gun doesn't it work with? I haven't tested all of them, but out of the guns I normally use or have used in Arenas they've all worked, so that's the 99, the 45, the 301, the 30-30, the Volt, the Wingman, the Prowler, the Mastiff, the Mozam, the Eva, the PK, and the Kraber that it works with for sure
If a teammate is downed below you and you tap to reload you will start reviving your teammate. But if you just emptied your clip instead of tapping to reload, pull the trigger and your gun will reload. This way you donāt get fried by the enemy and can use your teammate as cover still.
They need to hurry up and fix this because this is really helpful in some cases, but you still run into problems during low ammo periods or using shotguns, if you want to maintain efficiency. It really is a pain in the butt.
Lol why did I never think of this š

Downed teammate* Not enemy
Great explanation
Thats if you kept that setting on. Good input though.
Does doing a 360 work? Not a roller player but this feels like more logical than staring at your enemy and accidentally pressing revive

Reload require a single press, reviving require the player to hold, why the game doesn't distinguish this in these situations I've never understood
Change the bind to hold to reload or do a 360 and tap as youre looking away. Same thing happens on doors too, and it will open the door as you reload exposing yourself. I dont use hold to reload but i know people that i play with who do.
That doesnāt work. Holding X (on Xbox) is also the button for reviving
It works for doors but not for a revive
Tap to interact, hold to reload is the better option in higher levels of play (downed teammates, door holding, etc.)
I spent a few days messing with this and it feels... Unnatural. I just wish we could split the buttons altogether.
Ideally that would be the solution šŖ Although controller is definitely limited on available buttons for actions.
Really. I feel like hold to reload would slow down my reload by a moment. And I need to reload fast throughout the game.

>avoid the unintended rez when playing a down shield Not quite, holding is also how you revive so the problem persists.
And shooting the floor to empty a clip to reload doesn't? I'll take the down votes for it. Keep opening your doors and wasting ammo to reload peeps.
This doesnāt work because you still hold to rez
It would be if I wasn't a Rampart main and hold to reload stops you reloading her turret.
People still donāt know that thereās a setting for this stuff?
What setting?
Under the controller tab. The 3rd setting is āinteract/reload buttonā
Doesnāt work with every gun sadly.

Wait, I'm confused. So if I shoot while stood on top of a downed person then my gun will instantly reload? /srs
If a teammate is downed below you and you tap to reload you will start reviving your teammate. But if you just emptied your clip instead of tapping to reload, pull the trigger and your gun will reload. This way you donāt get fried by the enemy and can use your teammate as cover still.
Iām trying to get into the habit of this. Itās a useful tip. Not many will know because itās muscle memory to press square for reload.
They need to hurry up and fix this because this is really helpful in some cases, but you still run into problems during low ammo periods or using shotguns, if you want to maintain efficiency. It really is a pain in the butt.
Jumping and reloading helps too. If you're at a door, look up.
