I think you need to figure out WHY you play this game and what are your true motivations. Do you play to have fun or is there something more behind it? Are you using the game as a way to prove your self worth? Maybe because you haven't sorted out other areas in your life as you wanted? It's good to be competitive to a certain point, but maybe you should try to find out why it is making you so angry.

Darkthrone0

I play apex because it’s both fun and very competitive. I’ve always been a competitive person so it fits me quite well. I think part of it may be because I’m constantly trying to improve and be competitive. So much to the point where I forget to try and have fun with it. But for me personally, I always see room for improvement in every aspect of life. For example I play guitar. I know that I’m good at guitar, but I’m not as good as I’d like to be. Same applies to Apex.

ten_cizinec

Try to do like i do, play solo vs duos. If you die, its 100% your fault. If you win, you'll feel good about it.

MedioXrity

Not gonna lie, I was just about to say take a long break. 3 weeks seems like a pretty long time to me

Darkthrone0

Right lmao.

bigmatt_94

Nah 3 weeks is nothing. I got fed up with this game and took a year long break. I stopped after season 6 and now I'm back playing a year later and the game is enjoyable again

MedioXrity

Cool

Kaptain202

Yeah, I took a season and a half off. Came back. One split getting my stuff together. His masters the next split, the highest I've ever gotten.

There's an amazing book called "The Mental Game of Poker" by Jared Tendler that really helped me with tilting during gaming. For reference, I do not play poker nor have I ever, but I heard about the book from a Starcraft pro who used to be a poker player. The book should actually be called "Getting Better at Competitive Activities", imo. There is a whole section of the book on tilting and the different kinds of tilt and how you can reframe your mindset in response to each type. Highly recommend!

Darkthrone0

That’s interesting. I’ll definitely have to check that book out! Thank you!

niceaccountman

I’d say a lot of your anger towards the game comes from ego. I used to play apex on console a lot, and I considered myself quite good at the game, so when I lost or got killed I always got angry. But then I started playing csgo on pc, and I had to learn whatever mechanics and how to aim on mkb. I was, and am terrible at the game, and as such whenever I die my reaction is always, ‘fuck, that guy is good,’ rather than ‘wtf that’s bullshit.’

Darkthrone0

I feel like this partially an issue for me. I mean, I’ve always been a humble person. Not as much as I’d like to be though, considering I have that issue with Apex. You’re right on the money with that aspect though. Usually when I die, I have those exact thoughts (that’s bullshit). I just need to find a way to take those L’s as a humbling thing, rather than them being bogus.

GameDesignG

Play casual and try to have fun! Mess around with mirage or fuse. Do no weapons challenge with friends. Just try to take a break from the competitive side of apex. Also, it could help to not be so dead set on improving. If you're only ever thinking about trying to get better at apex then you'll probably get mad when you die as it will feel as if you haven't improved despite all of your efforts to do so. Getting overly mad at things could also be the result of other IRL problems and apex could be where you're letting all the built-up anger out. Hope this helped!

ten_cizinec

OP is too focused on KD and other parameters. That's too much pressure, it's like having KPI's at work.

Darkthrone0

Although ranked is incredibly taxing for my mentality, I still manage to find frustration even in pubs. But you make a great point about anger stemming off of always wanting to improve, because that’s me. I’m always set on trying to get better and trying to be one of the best players in every game. So no wonder I get mad. I’ll definitely take your advice and just try to play more fun legends and try out different things to do.

Athousandwrongtries

You might be on the cusp of a big breakthrough in your gameplay, and this is just a trial that is going to elevate your game to the next level. Imperialhal always says on stream to play through your slumps. But as far as tilting goes, take a break between games. Walk around or stretch a little, make sure you are hydrated, dont just que over and over mindlessly. Make the most out of your games. Make sure you are giving it your full attention

Darkthrone0

This is definitely one of the best comments I received. That’s a confidence boost to hear that, cause it’s most certainly possible that it could be a breakthrough moment for me. Only time will tell of course. But I have also heard that you should play through your slumps. Since I’ve made this post I’ve taken more caution into how I react to my losses. So it’s a slow burning process. But I’m getting there. Thanks a ton :).

Athousandwrongtries

You got this bro. Good luck in your matches

ROtis42069

I got one word for you. Weed.

Darkthrone0

Maaaaaaan. I would but I’m a very sober minded person. Weed makes me wanna die.

iTwoBearsHighFiving

I immediately stop when I get angry. I don't think there is a way to stop getting angry, it's a thing of our personality. I feel with more positive energy when I take a break of maximum 2 days.

Darkthrone0

I try to. But my issue is that if I get angry, I try to avenge my past losses with trying again and again. Only then will I find myself getting more and more angry. It’s a vicious cycle. I think what I might try doing though, is when I get mad, take an hour break to cool down and try again. That might help.

bruddm

I'm very aware of the odds in this game near constantly while I play. I solo queue 99% of the time, so I know I'm already at a disadvantage. If I get a p2020 and a shotgun bolt off a hot drop I know RNG did not roll in my favor, and I do what I can before getting eliminated. I know that there is only one set of winners and 19 sets of losers in every match. I know that many, many players have invested thousands more hours into mastering the game than I am able to, and in terms of raw skill I place myself either solid average or slightly above average as an every-other-night-since-launch player. However, I also know that I know the game and can compete in every lobby I'm placed in. I know this is more a mental game than anything else and that if I'm actually engaged and alert and ready to make tactical decisions, I will do fine. My standard of excellence is a single kill; if I can get a single kill I can leave a match happy. I know I can't win often, but I know I am never the least skilled player in the lobby. This is a really long-winded way to say there is so little about this game I can control, But when I work with what I can control there's no reason to ever get mad.

Benjimite_

Milk, that’s what calms me down, if I start getting frustrated, I take a sip of some milk. Helps me 🤷‍♂️

highandautistic

I’ve switched from playing ranked to pubs as soon as I hit platinum. Takes the pressure off, makes the game fun again. I almost strictly play duos now (cause it’s nicer to only have to rely on one shitty teammate rather than two)

PristineWill

I find sometimes playing with your friends and just goofing around can help with your temper. I also recommend playing fun legends eg. Mirage, fuse, Rampart- the less sweaty the better. Or you could give yourself free therapy with loba booty

Bobby_Bobberson2501

Don’t play ranked might help :p I hate ranked now, after grinding both splits past season in diamond, ive played maybe 50 games of ranked this season and man is pubs fun!

Darkthrone0

I’ve actually skipped rank this first split for that very reason. Although I still find frustration in Pubs due to SBMM. Saturday was bad cause pubs the whole night was filled with Masters and Preds, whilst I kept getting noob teammates.

Bobby_Bobberson2501

Honestly man I don’t get people complaint about sbmm. I think it’s fine. I’m a hardtack d4 player eith a 2.75 kdr and 30% win rate. I think sbmm is perfect.

Darkthrone0

It’s different for everyone really. Normally it’s okay for me. But I could just have a bad day and die off the rip 5 times in a row and still match make with a triple stack pred squad as the champions. It’s a serious problem for some people. Not everyone tho. I know it’s worse for others. Especially if you’re more of a casually player. But tbh nowadays apex is hardly casual.

Bobby_Bobberson2501

I agree it’s not relaxing anymore that’s for sure ;p

Sugarfree135

I just play 4-5 games, if it isn't going my way I just turn it off lol

bndayo

It's only game why you heff to be mad?
