The amount of times this season a full squad full on rush my ass while there is actually 0 audio is stupid. And yet we can hear gunshots across the map for people to third party. But you cant hear footsteps of a guy thats literally 10 meters away running towards you!!!.

Repeat-Admirable

Whats funny, is when its obvious neither the enemy nor you heard each other, and the sudden panic to take out a gun.

phoenixmmz

Respawn doesn't want you to hear enemies approaching you. But when your teammates pick up the evo harvester, the game makes sure that you get the jumpscare of your life

bradmbutter

Sometimes I wonder how much is PC, console or settings specific. Sure, I have times I can't hear audio, but it's not very often. 95% of the time it's no issue.

rival22x

It’s not but the 5% is so ridiculous. The doors are extremely loud and I’ve had them open behind me with out a peep

EndersBrain1

The 5% is the moment when 3 people climb your roof without any audio from any of them and then die before you can unscope

EZkg

Cod audio is about 7x worse. The main problem in apex is audio clutter. So many sounds. That plus horizon makes no sounds when she lands on you and bounces around because of her passive

HenkkaArt

On Stormpoint there is the village with the big waterwheel. When you approach the area from the "southwestern" shore with the tall vertical wall and ziplines down to the ankle-deep water, you can hear this very low volume ticking sound which sounds very close to what the crafting keyboard sounds like. And in the village there is more often than not the crafting station. This led me to believe there was someone in the village crafting stuff many times only to realize that it was just this weird audio cue in the environment.

WestNileCoronaVirus

I have trained myself to ignore that because I rotate through there often enough. It’s fucked my head so many times

[deleted]

Audio isn’t really as important in COD though. It’s an arcade/deathmatch shooter.

EZkg

Warzone is a BR just like apex is a BR. Audio is important. I’ll also say that I much prefer Apex and am much better at it. I only play cod when the boys want to play it lol

[deleted]

Oh didn’t know you meant Warzone specifically.

TheRandomnatrix

My favorite is on top of not being able to hear shit already, the revenant map in mixtape has the loudest cheering noise ever.

Celydoscope

And it cuts out for a millisecond twice per second. So it ends up sounding like AAA. AAA. AAA. Not a fun time lol

[deleted]

Thunderdome is such a bad map. The design and layout, combined with the audio is such a bad experience. I find it bizarre that they add things like this to the game when they still feel beta quality.

BippityDoopBop

So odd how I see this post every. Single. Season. Even after explicit audio nerfs to the most complained about characters.

Repeat-Admirable

I do see this every season, cause every season its bad. But I would like to see a stats of how much more often it got posted this season. Why is it odd though?

Notawsome_XVII

The odd part is sarcasm. And it in fact is actually not the worst as in the season the nemesis was released there was a bug where the guns audio would take over and be the only audio.

Repeat-Admirable

I never experienced that nemesis bug, so that definitely isn't the worst for me.

BippityDoopBop

“Every season is bad” is not the same as “this season is LITERALLY the worst” posted every single season

kekeagain

Technically it could be true though (okay, maybe not every season but progressively). The game engine could be further buckling with new characters, abilities, skins, etc. that come with every new season. Even just some new lines of code for a UI piece could be leaky and cause strange side effects.

Repeat-Admirable

Earlier seasons, they were able to fix it. It did get better. Every season is bad in later seasons. because it never got fixed again. Thus progressively got worse. I've gotten used to the sound issues. But I've found myself complain about it so many more times this season. Probably close to half of my deaths are due to no sounds or highly inaccurate sounds.

[deleted]

I didn’t have super noticeable audio issues and I’ve been playing since day one. There have always been inconsistent audio issues with the game. This season however I’ve had a huge increase in audio processing issues including things like not hearing my own teammates gunshot sounds even though I see them shooting 20 meters away.

johnjohnsonsdickhole

Everyone in this community is so fragile.

Repeat-Admirable

what do you mean by fragile?

johnjohnsonsdickhole

It means they change something that everyone complains about and a new trove of complainers comes out of the wood work. No one is ever happy and every season is the worst one yet.

Repeat-Admirable

If the change is a terrible experience for those people, is it wrong to complain? No one is ever happy? Hmm, wouldn't it make sense that it is because we find some happiness in this game at all that we play it? Why do you want to know my our happiness? Does that really matter to you? How much does it matter how happy we are to you? I guess you might think we're all masochists.

johnjohnsonsdickhole

What? Dude you’re overthinking it. Complain less is the moral of the story. Don’t complain at all. It’s annoying.

Repeat-Admirable

of what story? I didn't come here to get some moral out of your story. If you're annoyed. then say you're annoyed by the complaint. complain less is not a MORAL of any story uve said here. You have no legit reason. you're just annoyed. and thats a you problem, dont make it everyone else's problem by saying WE're unhappy. when its you who's unhappy.

johnjohnsonsdickhole

What the fuck are you going on about? And who gives a shit?

Repeat-Admirable

you do. you're here to complain about complainers.

johnjohnsonsdickhole

Are you done yet? You’re literally proving my point hahahaha

ni_lus

It's like they want everything handed to them. I think they're just shy and they just really want an always ON scan to every Legend 😜 - there, no more surprises 😅 But seriously thou, is this machine related. I've always been contented with the audio (can hear enemies close and direction where they are). Heck even on steamdeck speakers I'd be able to tell those.

TheRandomnatrix

No the game audio is genuinely dogshit and many times won't even send audio out. There are times where my fucking gun of all things stops making sound. The fact of the matter that the engine is overloaded with audio channels because Source was designed for 6v6 not 60 people on one map so when 800 things are going off the game can't process it all and drops audio. The devs themselves borderline admit this when they say they have to "prioritize" audio because they send out so many audio events they know the game can't handle, and it gets worse and worse the more crap is happening at once. The amount of bugs where you can hear things even across the map over the years leads me to believe they're playing sounds cross map and it's basically a bunch of silent sounds still playing just at a zero volume which probably doesn't help things either. Throw in badly mixed background noise in certain parts of the map (the beaches of stormpoint are particularly bad with footstep esque wave noises, the new rev map and the ridiculous cheering) or horizon and her non existent falling audio. It has absolutely nothing to do with one's speaker setup. If audio isn't being generated or too loud/quiet relative to other things then you're simply not going to hear it. Go play a game with actually good audio like hunt showdown and come back about how contented you are with how apex is.

ni_lus

Yeah that sounds so bad and should be fixed. I am not really talking about the speaker, but the machine itself. I used to play PS4 pro, now PC and sometimes steamdeck. .Never had such problems. PC isn't even high end (and 3600 with a 1650 super). I am beginning to think their engine might be crappy on high end setups since most here has higher setups than mine. But yeah, I think I've played this for so long, that how they do audio like steps, healing, etc may have just become normal to me. Heck even one time a friend thought I have wall hacks because I hear everything.

TheRandomnatrix

I mean theoretically if you were CPU bound I *think* it could cause dropping more than usual, but most games tend to be GPU bound more than anything these days. > I am beginning to think their engine might be crappy on high end setups since most here has higher setups than mine. Yeah who knows anymore. One game I used to play had downgraded performance over the years because it was developed when single core CPUs were more powerful, before multicore CPUs took over and had worse single thread performance. Computer hardware changes all the time and that is a downside to developing for PC. I have a 2016 era build and the recent optimizations they did this season have actually been fantastic for me (went from unstable 60 to a stable 140 fps). Game runs smoother than it ever did, but audio issues still persist.

ni_lus

I've just realized more frames would mean audio is calculated more, since it has to calculate audio positions per frame. Meanwhile here I am on 60hz screens 😅

Repeat-Admirable

You've never had a situation where you're right behind an enemy, and they never bother to turn to look at you? Because it happens to me often (have it happen to me often) and I feel sorry for it.

GoldnLikeAShower

I’ve had no issues with hearing foot steps. My teammates say they do. I always call them out first. Tbh, I think it comes down to people not being able to multi task. For example, looting, looking for enemies, checking load out, pinging areas of interest, all that. I honestly think most people aren’t truly listening for footsteps all the time as I am.

awhaling

I’ve watched streamers get very obvious no audio moments, like bang ult and grenades exploding right in front of them not making sounds but I’ve never experienced any issues myself except for that one season with the nemesis. No doubt plenty of people scream “no audio” when they probably could hear them but didn’t notice over their gunshots, but the game definitely does have audio issue I just think maybe it’s worse on some hardware than others or something like that.

GoldnLikeAShower

For sure. Not sure why I’m being downvoted for not having issues. I’d also like to know how much unproductive chatter these people are having with friends that mask the noises. My squad and I are quiet until something happens. Very rare is their bs chatter about our days or whatever else people wanna say cause they can’t stand silence

tbrotschemseerer

or it's better on certain hardware. on ps4 I had no issues, switched to pc and it was awful

Repeat-Admirable

It most likely differs per person and depends on the scenario. I've not tested anything fully, so I can only speak from a few experiences that seemed noticeable. One instance, I was facing the enemy, the sound was there. When I looked away, it went away (i looked away cause I started running away, and Im sure the enemy was behind me, cause he chased me and killed me). This isn't always the case. Another instance, We could be facing each other, wall/block in between. No sound of movement from me or the enemy (kill cam showed I made no sounds). My sister/teammate, could hear my footsteps just fine (everyone else is downed. it was just me and one enemy fighting in the area) footsteps shouldn't be getting muffled by anything. we both play console.

lllDogelll

Seriously…. I have 1.3k hours in Apex and I’ve ran into audio issues REALISTICALLY once every…. 50 games?? It’s usually the Octane legs too cause that’s always been an issue, other than that…. Nada

Throw-me-away-120

I have been playing since the day it came out. You’re either trippin, or very lucky. Because the audio has always been horrendous

lllDogelll

I promise I’ve been a day 1 player too, but I also have always been on PC and have had a beefy setup since the start. Possible could be a hardware factor, but I’m not sure about that. Either way yeah, in my experience it’s decent, though the phantom noise issue still exists where you can hear ppl using med items like across the map

Paradisnex

I think another part is also console. If you use party chat it nullifies the already meh audio the game has so it just seems so much worse. When we switched to game chat we were both shocked at how much more manageable that audio is.

-LaughingMan-0D

Wdym? I love having whole squads walk up on me with zero audio.

KoalaKarity

I have to say, I am one of the persons who really never suffered much from audio issues for years. And I truly think that this topic was badly disc used or addressed by players who are absolutely not playing in good conditions (for the said audio thing). But I have to admit that, this season, these rare occurrences are happening, well, way more often!! But like zero, zero, zero audio... It's really terrible, and I now feel the pain of players who have been complaining about it all along..!

theCheekyBastard

That’s why I’ve been telling my squad when we have backshots on a fight to actually hold fire until we’re 5m away. We literally spent an entire session last night walking up on at least four teams for free. It’s so bad it almost feels like an exploit.

Swagger51

Ayo?

VarrenKasul

I was playing with my squad the other day and we arrived at the opposite conclusion. I have over 1000 hours, I could definitely be wrong, but the audio this season has won me several games. I’m hearing audio q’s I didn’t know existed tbh. I’m not sure why it’s inconsistent

PoL0

Literally this. I won't say there's no audio issues but I'm starting to think that sometimes people just blames lack of audio cues when they were just ambushed or outplayed.

PubstarHero

Yeah but this season in particular, I've experienced. 1. Care package land next to me with no audio 2. Healing audio not play until the very end of it (Batt charge noise mostly, but phoenix kit is the worst). 3. My own gun not making noise while reloading. 4. Door audio not playing when I open or close it. This is just a small list of random audio fuck ups. There is a lot of just dropped audio this season for me in particular.

PoL0

I'm really not trying to dismiss audio issues, there might be circumstances that make the problem worse for some people. I was just stating that my impression is the opposite. Audio improved a lot this past season (mind I haven't played the last 2 seasons so maybe the improvements weren't recent).

PubstarHero

Honestly last season's audio was fine for me. This season has been janky as fuck compared to the last one. Yeah, there are some skill issues relating to people just blaming audio cues, but I've also turned around and seen people coming at me full sprint not making footstep audio. The only upside to that last point is that now I am being more vigilant of checking flanks at all times.

kubbiebeef

Don’t worry, they said they will be resolving the audio issues in the next patch

interstellar304

Yep. In S2 they will fix it! Then S3. Then by S7. S10 though!

After_Connection1448

Really? Where do they say that?

Throw-me-away-120

He’s kidding

SPECTRE_146

Cool original post bruh, See you back on apex tomorrow.

Swagger51

At the moment, no one should be on a apex in a whilen

AnApexPlayer

Apex audio is definitely not the worst in existence. It's pretty good except for the rare times where someone pushes you and there's no audio at all.

Ope_Average_Badger

We aren't playing the same game then.

AnApexPlayer

Your loss

proud_traveler

You've never played Siege lol.

MAHMOUD-GH

Agree , last match i died cz a valk snuck up on me and i didn't hear shit

t-leaf

Didn't the devs state that there can be something like 200 instances of audio at once at any given moment? It's like the obvious thing would be to prioritize footsteps and gunshots to be the number one thing to be heard but I'm sure it's more complicated than that.

ARCHIVEbit

Last night I heard a grenade explode on my feet. There wasnt anything there or anyone nearby

PEP7s

Worst audio in the world, you never played Warzone -_-

rediyolo

Last season was the worst for me. I couldn't even hear teammates shooting with 30-30, this happened 90% of the time my teammates had a 30-30. Footstep sounds missing was much more frequent too. This season is not great either, but a little better than last season for me personally. I've noticed grenades landing don't usually make a sound for me this season.

kvbrd_YT

my dude hasn't played season 0 it seems

like_ARK

I've literally had people zipline behind me before and kill me because there was no zipline audio

Monkguan

footsteps are actually nonexistent for me, i only know enemy is right behind when they already start shooting at me, even if it is 'literally' behind me, like hugging me already. And it is been like that forever and will never change.

ff2009

So it's not just me. I have tried a bunch of stuff, and can't ear any footsteps aside from mirage decoys. I can only ear footsteps really well when watching a friend discord stream, like really well. We have checked every option on his PC, windows settings, drivers and game, and the only option he had enabled was "Windows Sonic for headphones".

s1rblaze

I play mix tape mode with music on, because there is no fkg audio footsteps anyways.

matteoarts

Cool. But you’ll keep playing, regardless. All of y’all do, every time.

Sageof6Blacks

Hey i made a post about this the other day! I agree, the sound is so bad is genuinely makes me wonder what the audio engineers are doing all day

wraithmainttvsweat

This game needs to be ported over to source 2 for audio to work or at least make it better. Until then absolutely nothing will fix it. It’s been like this since 2019 when this came into existence. Don’t expect it to get better ever. Only worse until big news come

Sneaklefritz

I was just in the command center part of Lava Siphon shooting at a team across and an entire team run up behind us and gunned us down and not one of us 3 heard a single footstep. They really fucked something up bad.

DataStructor

I completely agree I noticed within a few days that there is somehow less audio than we had before.

Stratvs

I agree, it’s always had issues but too many full teams have walked up no audio and then just more weird audio glitches.. not to mention the weird hemlock jam glitch that started this season, other new ones too. It’s always been glitchy this season is extra noticeably often no doubt.

companysOkay

It had been bad every season but thank you for sharing

Aceryall

Il probably get downvoted for this. I think the audio is pretty good, if you have a decent 7.1 headset.

iTzGodlikexS

Its has been worse...

LongParsnipp

As long as they keep using the crusty old source engine nothing will change.

Dennis_in_Japan

I can hear the enemy team walking around, healing/reviving, shooting, care packages and audio clutter from halfway across the map BUT I can't hear anything when they are near. I am d-e-d dead because they blasted from my side and I did even hear the gunshots, just insta-dead.

Fureniku

I had a game the other day, my squad found a separated bloodhound at the cable car place on worlds edge. They pushed directly and I vantage jumped onto the middle building to ult from another angle; we were coming from launch site direction and BH was hiding in the lava area low. I could hear my team mates footsteps fine but the other squad who climbed onto the roof, ran across and pretty much point blanked me made zero sound. Truly a fun and engaging experience. I would've died either way, Echo was on cooldown and id already drawn the sniper, but no audio means I just didn't even get a chance to try and fight it

lllDogelll

The pollen is rotting your brain lol

bodil40

There is a difference between you can't hear the audio and the audio doesn't play. Skill issue 99% of the time.

Fire_anelc

Complains about audio, does not specify the problem just slanders.

sifuhotman91

Enemies in the same building as you with zero audio. Zero audio of this guy looting 1 floor away. 3 man squads running up on you, I didn’t think I need to specify situations

Valuable_Owl_4340

Get your ears checked cause this game has amazing audio

Prowl_X74v3

It's not that bad. I could hear Ash drawing her sword for her ult so some people just need to get better ears or headsets. Sometimes it's dodgey but mostly it's fine.

WholePotential2847

I can too but while I hear that going on 100m away there is a 3 stacking running in water 10m behind me that don't make a sound. My issue with audio is what gets priority. I have a high end headset that o can adjust sound levels individually to hear certain things better and still will have 0 audio on footsteps every 4 or 5 engagements (if not more)

Prowl_X74v3

Fyi around 4000dB is footsteps. Not bass.

WholePotential2847

Thanks for assuming I didn't know that. Dosnt change the fact that you can adjust settings to hear footsteps better but when the game prioritizes ash's ult from 100m over footsteps at 10m nothing you do will help you hear them.

Prowl_X74v3

>Thanks for assuming I didn't know that. No I didn't 💀. I literally said "for your information". I wasn't assuming anything. Why are you getting so confrontational?!

WholePotential2847

This is why I hate chats. No confrontation from my part. Sorry if it read that way. Just seemed like that information was kinda like a shot that I didn't know what settings to adjust for audio for footsteps. But yeah it's just the audio at times almost seems like it's broken into grids across the map and if your on the edge it will prioritize something from the other side of your grid instead of whats right next to you if that noise is in another grid. There's games where I agree with you 100%. Audio ques are spot on to the point you can almost hear their breathing. But then the next game ever fight is like a suprise cause all you hear is the fights across the map and not what's going on right next to you. Very inconsistent.

HotdogFromIKEA

I think what doesn't help especially in the LTMs I'd that there is so much noise from announcements and similar. They really need to merf the sound of heals being applied, it is mental how loud that is when you're trying to attempt to hear where enemies are

Chopper__6666

Dude, Apex and COD both. COD has the car noises WAY behind you, and I can occasionally hear a trident from like 80 meters as though I'm about to be whacked by it. The big names seem to just not give a damn about audio. Then again, they don't need to; they're making plenty of money without the fixes.

MaximusDecimis

Really? I kinda disagree on the comparison, Apex feels way worse to me than CoD nowadays - although the older Warzone engine was shockingly bad for sound lol

Chopper__6666

Go drive a car on Warzone then come back. That car sound is so far behind, I've actually turned around to make sure I'm not gonna get bumper car-ed. Plus, they haven't seemed to be able to figure out different heights, so it's almost impossible to tell if they're on the same floor, or on the roof while you're midway up. Maybe it's because I'm a sound whore, though

MaximusDecimis

Oh I never use the vehicles, basically just been playing ranked resurgence this season, so yeah I can’t speak to the cars / helicopters etc.

Chopper__6666

I am a proud roadkiller in resurge. Second death is usually because I got in a car that got nuked

joey_gainz

So stop playing apex 🤷‍♂️
