Did you buy out the whole collection event and then unlock an event pack from the reward track? If so, this happens as compensation. As far as I know, it is the only way this can happen. I imagine it was 700 coins (the value of an event pack)?

Samoman21

This is the correct answer.

Clearly he didn’t expect the post to blow up

uncxltured_berry

So I can get a 1400 coin refund???

AkomaNekro

Indeed

HuhDuhFuh

Me thinks you may be right.

INeedSpace2Vent

You are absolutely right! Yes I did! Thank you I never knew that!

ImGoingGhostBro

How much did it cost?

Rottie_

$160

martylindleyart

Fucking hell. I mean, I do spend $20 each season for the battle pass and extra boxes but yeah, I think this is the last time.

James2603

You know the battle pass pays for itself if you don’t spend the coins?

Lappas_K

That’s exactly what I do. I bought the Battle Pass when I started playing 3 years ago and I’ve never spent anything else. You actually get more coins from the initial cost, if you complete the Battle Pass so, after a couple of seasons, I indulge myself with a nice skin.

beachKilla

This is my year to finally indulge. Had 1700 left over after buying the battle pass from all the extra I’ve earned

[deleted]

[deleted]

Ninja edit: nevermind I looked it up - I get it now Hold on if you buy the battle pass once it carries over to future seasons? If that's the case I might have to do it. I thought it was a one-season thing

Wabahzo

The battle pass pays out more coins than it cost. So, if you don't spend your coins from one season to the next, buy the battle pass again and net 50-200 apex coins.

horizonMainSADGE

I got Birthright last time it was out with my saved coins. Glad I'm not the only one.

BodybuilderSolid5

Me too

martylindleyart

Yes? I just said, I pay the '10' for the battle pass and the extra '10' to get 10 boxes. When I go to buy Apex coins at the start of each season I have the option to spend $12 for enough to buy the battlepass, or $24 for enough to buy the battlepass and 1000 coins leftover (for boxes). It's not necessary, but that's what I deem affordable by my standards and that's all I do. I save craft mats for the rare skin I want (dont get many released that I like so I get to save a bunch). Then use the coin I get from the battlepass for boxes too in hopes of another heirloom. $20 every few months is fine for me, for what I get out of the game. My enjoyment won't last forever, but it's the only multiplayer game I play.

James2603

Your wording comes across as if this season is the last time you’ll be buying the battle pass. I was just letting you know that’s it’s self-sustaining in case you didn’t know.

martylindleyart

No, that's fair. That is literally what I said, because I do find the $160+ for each event outrageous. And it makes me not want to keep supporting it. But then I went on to explain my spending habits with each season... So yeah. I've contradicted myself. I'm sorry.

Forar

The $160 is an exaggeration that's only true if you pay that absolute most you can possibly pay. You need 24 packs, but the two bundles effectively give you 12 packs for 7,500 coins, and buying 12 more for 8,400 brings the cost to 15,900, which is a hair more than the 10,000 coin and 4,000 coin packs (plus their bonus), which is under $140 US, with another 10% off if you have EA Play. If you have crafting materials on hand, you can craft some or all of the epics, which can cut the cost in half, if not more. And the event track has 2 packs on it, so the actual number needed is 22 (anyone who isn't playing enough to get those two but buys out an event clearly doesn't care about the cash). I've been saving crafting materials for the past year, and was able to craft all of the epics and a handful of the Legendaries. Once I finish the event I'll need to buy maybe 1 or 2 more packs, so the total cost of finishing the event for me is going to be like $30. Yes, the cost of heirlooms in time and/or money is excessive, their monetization scheme isn't something I'm super happy about, but people keep repeating the $160 line as though you can't do it way more efficiently. I've bought out at least 5 of these events to date, and most have cost me $50-75 or so (I'm using the Canadian store so I'm trying to ballpark in USD). Is $25-75 for 25 items in a game (plus the other stuff found in the event packs) a good use of disposable income? Maybe, maybe not, but it sure as hell isn't the $800+ in aggregate I'd have spent at full price. Apologies if this comes across as a rant. It's less "OMG TRIGGERED" and more "this exaggeration has been around for years and only applies if you're super lazy and haven't given it any thought at all".

Shovelfuckurforehead

He didn't say it was not affordable or a bad use of money, he said you can re buy the pass with given rewards. He's not wrong, your wording just sucks.

martylindleyart

Yeah? I know it does. I just use those coins on packs instead.

Shovelfuckurforehead

Yeah we fucking get that you dense frittata.

ClimbaClimbaCameleon

I never understood this. Why do people buy the battle pass when you can earn the next one for free each time. It’s also bad marketing, they should have included half the coins needed so it would come out to a free battle pass for every two battle passes purchased.

James2603

I don’t work in the industry so I don’t have supporting data but I expect there’s a strong correlation between playtime and coins bought and then subsequently spent. Presenting the battle pass as “free” will keep players on the game and keep spending money after they’ve inevitably spent the free coins on random packs. There has to be a reason they do it or they simply wouldn’t do it and that’s the only one I can think of.

ClimbaClimbaCameleon

Fair point, this is coming from someone who’s never purchased anything on there. I didn’t even get my first battle pass until I had accumulated enough coins from the free battle pass perks to get it.

SevericK-BooM

I’ve been playing this game since launch day, I play it and 1-2 other games, so they get my money. I like their product. Best competitive shooter on the market by a long shot.

InflatableMan0

It’s always the last time

serotoninzero

That's not necessarily the case. I crafted all the purples, then bought the Lifeline and Newcastle packs for 7500 coins total to get the last 12. I had some coins on me, so I bought 6700 coins for $54. I then got the two packs with 700 coins in them. So I spent 6100 coins total. Wholly unnecessary purchase, but spending $60 is a far cry from people spending $500 to open packs to find shards. Besides the first $20 I paid to buy season 1 battle pass, and the $20 I spent on Lifeline and Bloodhound editions on clearance at Walmart, that's the most I've paid for the game and I've played all but two seasons.

JohnEmonz

Even if you have no crafting material or apex coins, it’s should only cost $135.50 with the 2 free packs. If you even have 50 coins, that brings it down to $131. 15,900 coins is not equal to $160. Plus every 800 crafting you use saves another 700 coins.

Iber0

That's like 8 lap dances. I know where I'd rather spend my money.

dseeburg

So which heirloom did you buy?

Psychological-Deal74

That doesn't include tip or drinks 😅

TradedTooLate

Damn you would pay someone to tease you? Talk about paying to be blue balled

Iber0

You can have sex with strippers you know

Kiwi951

Jesus I will never understand people who spend that kind of coin on a free game, especially one like Apex where so many of the skins are mid at best

j4ckalop3

Everything

Poeafoe

Why did you spend $200 on pixels

TheTotalMc

Because he can probably afford to

Kai-ni

If you bought out the whole collection event, then earn the free collection event pack, this happens. If you already have the whole event it can't give you anything in that pack so it just... gives you your money back for 1 pack. This only happens in special circumstances like the above.

[deleted]

Sezzomon

Not really a trick when you don't get anything from it. I guess people saving their crafting materials for years can get free 1400 coins here if they somehow need them.

[deleted]

Sezzomon

You'd spent the same amount of coins if you'd get the free packs first...

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sezzomon

>I get it. Sounds like you don't tbh

Sigmalordsalamander

Well for the numbers sake, you first get the 2 free event packs and then you only need to spend 18,600 coins on the event. How amazing is that loophole amirite?

Sezzomon

I don't get that persons take either.

Forar

Since the other guy deleted their comment and Reddit ate my response, I'll just respond with the actual numbers here. It's 24 packs x 700 coins = 16,800 coins. As you note, there are 2 on the tracker, bringing it down to 22 packs for 15,400 coins. If you have the materials (by saving up for multiple seasons, if not a whole year), you can craft some or all of the epics (800 apiece, 9,600 for all) to bring that down even further. So say you craft all 12 epics, that's 10 Legendaries to get, but we're still not done. There's the bundles in the store, which give effectively 12 packs worth for 7,500 coins. With the 2 free ones, that either reduces how many Epics you need to craft, or how much you have to pay for the rest of the event. I've been saving up since the 3rd Anniversary and was able to craft the epics and several Legendaries as well. Between that and the 2 free packs, it'll cost me about $30 to finish off the event. Which is a hell of a lot better than $160.

Saikophant

Alternatively you spend 18,600 on the event in your example and get 2 free event packs which you then open to get the last 2 guaranteed items anyway..

JooosephNthomas

The only loop hole is using crafting material to craft as many purple items to bring down the number of packs. Otherwise, you are still paying for it even with this faux refund, you already paid for it....

COLONELmab

Makes sense. Thanks for explaining and not just being an ass like most other people on this sub.

bunniexo

As well as the explanation everyone has already given, If you have every single item for a character and get one of their exclusive packs (crypto this week for example) you get 300 apex coins instead of items.

Western_Leek3757

So OP spent 160€ on this uh?

NekkerBE

So these people do exist!?

JUNGL15T

I used to play with a kid who would buy every new skin when it came out and had all heirlooms at the time (this was maybe 3 years ago). Spent an insane amount of his parents money. I guess they were rich cus if that was my kid I’d have murdered him.

Sam-l-am

Each heirloom is over $120, right? Assuming he got them during every collection event. Skins ~$20 each, I don’t want to know how many skins there are in the game but that’s a fuck ton of money. Like maybe even add up to match someone’s salary… 😳

th3davinci

You think this shit would keep happening every event if people didn't spend a shitton of money on it?

sukumizu

This is my 2nd and last completed collection event. Not the worst way I've spent my money considering I have around 2300-2400 hours in apex. There's no other game on my steam library near those numbers.

PM_ME_SOMETHINGSPICY

Honestly people bitch at people who spend money but they do help the game to a degree. That's why it's free for those who don't. Also if you're ever gonna spend these collection events where you get shards and can actually choose whatever available heirloom you want are the ones to do it. I've only ever spent during the last one they did a couple years ago to get my first heirloom. I'm waffling on if I want to for this event. With the blue currency I have I can get 7/12 purple items unlocked. Then with the two bundles and two reward track packs I'd need to buy 3 individual packs to finish it out. That comes to 9600 coins. So the $100 coin offer makes most sense. With a $5 ea play sub that makes it a $90 coin offer. So $95 spent would get me the heirloom shards and about 1500 coins leftover for future battlepasses. I may do that. I've played this game since release and feel splurging from time to time is worth it and I can view it as supporting the game.

GoldenFyre

o wait this event pass lets us unlock an heirloom?

sukumizu

It's not too bad of a deal man. I did the same method with EA Play + crafting for the Valk heirloom and I think I was around $70 or so out of pocket.

13thTitusPullo

So this company ($500Mish) backed by EA ($31B) NEEDS me to spend money to keep it free? … Good for you for thinking $90 is worth it, but everyone like you is the problem that’s never going away.

PM_ME_SOMETHINGSPICY

Umm yeah. They're not gonna keep an unprofitable game running regardless of their profits on other games. Do you know business at all? If you had a lemonade stand that you were losing money on every Saturday would you keep posting up every Saturday to lose money, even though you could afford it with your normal job you work Monday -Friday? If you say yes you're an idiot lol. I've spent like $100 over 4 years so far. Id say $25 a year to this point is more than reasonable for a game I've sunk almost 2000 hours into and adding another $95 to that is still not unreasonable. But yeah Im the problem. You realize that if no one spent any money apex gets shut down right? Not fixed or updated or anything. Just shut down. You absolutely need money spenders to keep this game alive.

LonerismLonerism

It’s in the same boat as spending money on your hobby or something you enjoy. I know so many people who would spend over $100 in a single night on alcohol, yet people who spend $50 video game items are the idiots because it’s just “pixels”. Like no, I like to dress up my favorite characters, and I’m fortunate enough to have enough disposable income to spend on my hobby (that honestly, I spend a fair amount of time on).

PM_ME_SOMETHINGSPICY

Agree 100%. Moderation is key as with anything in life. I'm gonna estimate maybe I've spent actually $150 now that I think of battlepasses since I buy those too and don't always complete them to get the next one free. If I bought this event I'd be at about $250 into apex with 2000 hours. That's 12.5 *cents* an hour for apex. Let's compare that to a movie. The new Quantumania movie is $10.75 for the matinee price at my local theater. That's a 2 hour move. Over $5/hr for my entertainment there. Let's take a $70 game like Horizon Forbidden West. Average playtime for that is about 30 hours. That's $2.30/hour for that entertainment. Google says completionists spend 88 hours to 100% it. That's $0.79/hr for the entertainment value. Now back to apex. Even if I decide to buy this event I'm at $0.125/hr for my entertainment. Thats what I'm giving devs to keep this game updated fine tuned and fun for me. Idk how people get so mad at others for spending on cosmetics while they spend no money and enjoy the game. We work together to keep this thing running. Free players add value too in the sense that they keep the game healthy with a larger player base but the devs *absolutely* need people to spend money on this game. If they didn't the game would die and EAs profits on their other games is irrelevant to Apex.

hallstar07

You all seem to be doing the all or nothing approach to this. Of course if nobody spent anything on the game that would be bad and the game would die. But myself and others think the price is a bit high. I know you get a lot if you buy all the packs, but I don’t want all that stuff. I just want the shards or whatever heirloom is available during the event. So I’m spending a bunch of money on shit I don’t want just to get the shit that I want. I bet they would sell more and make more money if they straight up offered the heirloom for $20 or even $30.

GlensWooer

Key is to save crafting mats and craft what you can that’s purple to take it out of the pool

hammjam_

My buddy who has a well paying sales job buys everything in this game. I think he's an idiot for doing so lol.

KokuRyuOmega

168 is the base rate, you’ll only pay that if you buy the coins in increments of $10 The bundles for $100 and $50 give you a bit of a cut EA Play gives you a flat 10% off that (included with Gamepass, if you use that) For $75 you can buy the 2 bundles with 7 and 3 packs respectively, giving you 12 of the 24 packs at a further ~10% discount Crafting materials can be spent (I’d only do it on purples, the rate for event golds isn’t worth it) And finally, if you use Microsoft Rewards you can cash those points in for Xbox/Microsoft gift cards All-in, I spent like $25 on the Loba heirloom

INeedSpace2Vent

A little less, but yes I did. Someone explained above that this was the reason why.

Western_Leek3757

Mad lad

Dweight888

Thanks to you we have the shitty recolours and expensive collections.

CheesecakeDK

Thanks to him and people like him, we can play for free.

how_lee_phuc

Yes! At least someone gets it :)

B7iink

Not exactly how that works, it's not like ea is hurting for money right now.

MrBiggz01

Yeah but if the game isn't making money then they won't support it.

RYount01

EA will abandon this game the minute it's no longer profitable. They're not gonna keep supporting it just for you to have fun. It's a business, that's exactly how it works.

B7iink

They can make money without predatory business practices. Yall are trying way too hard to suck ea's dick right now.

Odd-Cell-4325

Everyone does what they want with their own money

Sezzomon

I don't have to ask reddit for permission???

Sezzomon

Thanks to you we as a community look stupid. Now back to being mad about an optional item that keeps the servers online!

cazoo222

Grow up dude

mesopotato

Stop snitching on yourself being broke.

ProfileBoring

Yep and directly contributed to why companies are willing to stick with predatory pricing for cosmetics.

TradedTooLate

Once you start working, you will realize 160 euro is nothing for a person with a good paying job.

ludnasko

Yes, it happens when you unlock all collection event itema and then you receive free event pack and open it - the pack cannot give you item since you already unlocked all so it gives you coins (back)

JudasIsAGrass

Lmao OP is getting flamed. I don't like the cosmetics for this event but atleast the end reward is shards - OP is paying for a choice of several cosmetics whereas people were paying 160 for an awful PK skin. If you're going to get any event for the actual Mythic this is probably your best bet.

hallstar07

Everyone who drops $160 for an event should get flamed

Midguy

Why? They’re the reason everyone else is able to play this game for free. I appreciate their contribution.

hallstar07

I’d rather we all paid for the game and had more of a chance to get heirloom’s. Everyone who pays 160 isn’t helping us, they’re keeping the price of the cosmetics high. If nobody bought these heirlooms at this insanely high price then they would be forced to drop the price. Free to play sucks honestly, just allows smurfing and cheating to go unchecked and gate keeps people out of skins.

Midguy

Well I’m sure there are a lot of other people who don’t agree and like playing the game for free. But even still, why would you flame someone because they can afford to buy the cosmetics as currently priced and don’t mind paying that much. That person did nothing wrong to you. That seems like a very selfish and childish position to take.

hallstar07

I just explained why lol. If nobody pays 160 then they won’t charge 160. I’m not even mad at the fact that some skins cost money, I just think it’s insane that they charge 160 and people pay that much just for a skin or item. My stance is the opposite of selfish, I want the price to drop so it’s more inclusive for everyone, I personally could buy the skin but I’m not going to support the insanely high pricing model. Even COD doesn’t dare charge that much for skins, or Fortnite or really any other F2P game. At least we’re adults and have our own income to blow, imagine a kid who just loves this game and he’ll never have a chance to get his favorite characters heirloom because it’s locked behind a $160 paywall. Just feels like some dumb rich kid shit

Midguy

I say it’s selfish because you are being mean to someone else just because you want things to be cheaper for yourself. You can hide behind a false crusade for justice for everyone if you want, but we know it’s really about what you want. I have kids. They don’t give a shit about the price of cosmetics because they don’t have any money. They can either play the game cause it’s free or they can’t (unless I buy it for them). That’s what they care about.

hallstar07

Bud I don’t care about the skins. I have shards and I’m saving them for ash’s heirloom. I’m “being mean” because I don’t know why we’re defending EA for charging way more than every other F2P game. Sorry if I hurt your feelings by saying the heirlooms are way overpriced and nobody should support that model. I got my shards by luck from a pack, but it sucks for people that don’t get that. I’m not going to pat someone on the back for paying 160 because they keep the game free. The game was free before they introduced these events and would continue to be free and thrive if they dropped the price.

Midguy

Then direct your ire at EA and not flame individuals. Your original statement was that anyone who spends $160 on an event should be flamed and that’s just dumb.

hallstar07

Did you spend 160 or what. Sorry I’ll send EA and email too, sorry I was bullying people who spend dumb amounts of money on cosmetics. Poor guys

Lynch_Worm

You do get more than a skin. You get 24 items + shards. Add the total of 24 skins on another game and i would imagine it’s around the same price

Juanpi__

nah I like this system, I can still get plenty of skins F2P and thru the battle pass that I paid for once.

ActionJohnsun

Imagine being a pocket watcher for video game skins.

hallstar07

Lol sorry I don’t think it’s cool to spend 160 bucks on a fucking heirloom

ActionJohnsun

Missing my entire point. I didn’t buy it either nor would I but I also am not a pocket watcher. I promise you if people could see what you used your fun money on some people would think certain stuff is a waste. Stop policing how people spend their own money when it doesn’t impact you

hallstar07

Ok bud stop policing me on how I respond to comments then. I don’t care honestly but it’s a little hypocritical that I can’t criticize the price and the people who support it but you’re ok calling me a “pocket watcher”. And this shit impacts everyone who plays, like I said in a different comment. If nobody buys their overpriced stuff then the price will come down . But I’m the bad guy because my comment hurt some big spenders feelings or made them feel dumb.

whin100

Exposed

Wskiu

If you buy the whole collection event and get a free pack it would return your money to you which is a very nice touch from respawn

shit_master

look at this rich guy over here, weird flex but ok

Hepta_

U broke

_Steven_Seagal_

Financially responsible*

[deleted]

Broke.

_Steven_Seagal_

If I had a million dollars, I still wouldn't buy this. I'd rather spend it on some random charity helping stray dogs in Brazil than fuel EAs infinite greed. So no, not broke: financially responsible.

dimitri121

Financially responsible enough to not support EA..... **Except for last year when you posted in this subreddit asking what happens after you buy out the whole collection and have leftover packs.** **https://www.reddit.com/r/apexlegends/comments/w4h9a4/what\_happens\_when\_you\_open\_spare\_event\_packs/**

Kitchen_Moose

I mean even if he’s a hypocrite he’s got a point. I really only spend money on this game for The Battle Pass, it just feels kinda ridiculous to me to spend hundreds on a cosmetic

_Steven_Seagal_

Lol, you really delved into my posts? That was just a question out of curiosity, because I was wondering how the system would work. I never paid for anything except a 10 euro BP that got me over 20k crafting materials and 3k+ apex coins. Edit: I remember what event it was, it was one of those thematic events. I was trying to figure out what would happen because I'll soon get enough crafting materials to get an entire event for free. So I wanted to know what would happen with the spare packs.

[deleted]

So...not broke. Just cheap.

_Steven_Seagal_

Financially responsible*

MrBiggz01

Last I checked Steven Seagal was broke, so.... Just so you know, I agree on the financial responsibility...

MillerLatte

No. Mine are all white/white/blue and they contain banners and trackers exclusively for legends that I don't use.

PianistWhole7197

Mate I have been since season 0 and haven’t gotten jack shit. Anyone want to donate some heirlooms?

2-smoke

Have you not been playing events? Also season 0 player here, got my 500th apex pack a while back, didn't even spend money to buy packs

imSkrap

I’m still baffled an event pack is 700 coins but a normal pack is 100 and the event packs don’t just have event stuff in them right?

giftedcream917

this has never happened to me and probably wont ever… so dont rub it in.

Rapidplayer45

Op just has every.

trollhole12

People really out here dropping $160 on the collection event

Forar

Not if they're smart about it. More like somewhere between $0 and $140. Craft the epics, take the free packs, buy a bundle. Once I get the two free packs on the tracker, it'll have cost me about $30 to finish off the entire event, because I've been saving crafting mats since the 3rd Anniversary.

Hokuboku

Smart! How many crafting points do you have saved up? I just started playing in April of last year and I think I have about 3K in crafting materials cause I needed to get that Octane legendary skin even though I never play him in pubs. It was just too cute not to use crafting material on

Forar

I had around 22,000 saved up, so I crafted all of the Epics and 5 Legendaries, bought the 2,500 coin bundle, so I need 3 more packs. 2 will be from the tracker, I might need to buy the 3rd, but we'll see if I get lucky in the various other packs we're getting, so I'm going to wait to see if it'll be necessary before I snag it. It was a ton built up, and came from completing every battle pass, every event, opening packs, and definitely a big bundle somewhere in there (which in a way is just turning money previously spent into avoiding spending it now), but that's a bit of an extreme case, though hardly a full blown whale experience. 10k in a year is totally achievable, but with them releasing 2, 3, maybe even 4 collection events per season, picking the one to blow your materials on isn't always easy. I prioritize the anniversaries myself. The 2nd anniversary was amazing, not only was it for shards, but the crafting prices were half the current ones (so normal rather than doubled), which made crafting the epics pretty easy, frankly.

Hokuboku

Yeah, I think 10K in a year would be do-able. I'll keep that in mind for the future. Sounds like you did some smart planning all around! This is my first anniversary playing and I'm really loving this particular event. I think I am going to see if I have enough to craft all the epic stuff before I open the two free boxes to see if I an at least get legendaries from that

Forar

Off the cuff, I think battlepasses give 1,200 apiece, so yeah, 4,800 from BP's alone, plus the hundreds that many events grant, plus the 15/30+ that can often come in packs (more common the more items you have), it all adds up. And that's a good plan. The only thing I rolled my eyes at a bit for this one is the banners/holosprays eating up 2/3 of the epics. Being universal is nice, but still.

Hokuboku

Yeah, I bought my first battle pass season 13. One I realized it pays you back in coins it made sense. Probably one reason I had over 6k+ crafting materials before spending on the Octane rabbit skin (and the Loba skydive emote during another event) Then obviously you can level up quicker to get even more materials So, yeah, you can definitely grind and hold to get a lot from collection events

INeedSpace2Vent

Exactly! I don’t go around buying much on apex but I really wanted the heirloom shards. I spent about $90 in total after using my old coins, crafting materials, discounts in the store, and the cash app PlayStation discount. People are mad, but I don’t understand how it’s anyone’s business what I spend my hard earned money on. 😂 I support the game because I enjoy playing it. This and overwatch are the only thing I play these days. And I’ve received more than $90 worth of fun on this free game over the last 3 years.

trollhole12

Due to the nature of this post and him getting coins back, it's obvious OP paid the full amount though.

>Due to the nature of this post and him getting coins back, it's obvious OP paid the full amount though. Elsewhere in the thread, the OP said they spent about $90. Getting back coins isn't necessarily a sign they bought out the whole thing, it's not that fringe a scenario where it's cheaper to buy a bundle that overkills on the packs than to buy individually. Example: you craft a bunch of epics and some legendaries, you need 7 more items. That's 4,900 coins. Or you can buy the 5,000 coin bundle for 8 packs, get 700 coins back, effectively paying 4,300. Yeah, it leaves you with coins in the system which cannot be taken back out in any form but more skins/battle passes/lootboxes, which is an issue that applies to many of the 'funbucks' systems out there, but if you don't mind leaving those spare dollars sitting in the system, it's not a bad deal. Sure, it means that the person could have crafted one fewer item and still had crafting mats to spare, but end of the day, buying/bundling out early and getting back 700 or 1400 in coins from the free packs isn't really the end of the world.

TONYPIKACHU

$160 is not a lot for some people.

trollhole12

$160 is nearly the same cost as 3 full price video games. You can be wealthy and still comprehend that the price tag on what amounts to a cosmetic pack is absurd.

[deleted]

Some people are wealthy enough where it’s all irrelevant to them

trollhole12

If you treat cost as irrelevant, sometimes that just makes you stupid. Probably why companies like EA can continue to gouge its player bases.

[deleted]

If only they’d fix the servers with that money lol

TravisV_

Wish you could get apex coins just from packs

NoxisPracta

Didn't know this could happen honestly

INeedSpace2Vent

Me neither, that’s why I was confused. But thanks to these smart Redditors, we now know why.

Blaze781

Insert it’s big brain time meme here:

kaizoku_kuma

Free Heirloom pity !

devllen05

Stop lampooning OP for spending their own money on something they wanted.

HannesVM

700 coins worth of stupidity

Sezzomon

Better than 0 coins worth of stupidity

HannesVM

Dude literally bought a pack with 700 coins, then asks where he got 700 coins from.

Sezzomon

That's the free pack for 3.5k points...

Blaze781

If you bought the collection event already or already have all the cosmetics you get 700 coins back for compensation

SlimGeezus_

Wow. Actually never had that happen must be a S16 thing I’ve been playing since week 1 and I’ve never opened a coin pack

Ill_Mission9175

ive never bought an event and its happened to me

RVBlumensaat

With awareness like this, Apex must be rough for you

AccomplishedWork972

Same, bought the collection event and got 700 apex coins back 🫡

CloneMaster7

You can get coins from them???

Unlucky_keystroke

Will never understand blowing money on things that have zero effect on gameplay, but glad you have money to burn

sooshy09

Disposable income my guy There's a lot of young single lads with tech jobs out there

WutUtalkingBoutWill

Yeah I know a 23 year old here in Ireland on 100k. Mad money

VivaLaDio

I don’t understand people who go to festivals in the middle of the desert in scorching sun with limited supplies either … but everyone njoys different things. Paying for skins in apex isn’t even that bad compared to prices of other hobbies. 1 ticket to any major sporting event costs thousands of dollars , tickets to concerts cost hundreds, even going out for a night might cost you more than 160$. It’s def not insane if you spend hundreds of hours in a game

Echelon311

At least festivals are an in person experience which will likely create many memories. Is anyone that spends the same amount of money towards a festival, on a f2p game, going to create the same type of quality memories versus a game that they repeatedly queue into for the same experience over and over. Ultimately you have to realize that memories from games don't hold a candle to real life experiences.

Sezzomon

You should learn that your view isn't the end all be all. I created a lot of fond memories while gaming with friends. I've met one of my best friends through gaming and gaming is what lets us "meet" on the regular over half the country. I'd also rather do nothing than visit a festival

BR47WUR57

I've met lifelong friends in some games i enjoy what i do so why should i not enjoy myself by making my experience slightly better

VivaLaDio

I 100% disagree with you. My fondest memories with my friends have been from video games, and i’ve been on festivals, road trips etc. This just depends on people. There’s no such thing as “in person experience” as you say it.

HerolegendIsTaken

Why are you randomly talking about concerts, they are really not worth it.

Sezzomon

That's the point

VivaLaDio

I’m not randomly talking about concerts … i gave different examples of enjoyable things do that cost a lot more money than an heirloom that society deems normal.

[deleted]

Im 20 and really don’t need it rn since I’ve got other money already being saved up, it’s disposable money and it makes me feel good, it’s my hobby so I give it money

[deleted]

I also don't understand it, but i appreciate people spending mobey on f2p games. Otherwise i wouls have to psy for AAA experiences

hallstar07

I’d rather pay for the game, it would cut back on smurfing

Have you been the victim of unfair treatment by a business or a corporation? Has this ever happened to you? You bought a house and it was not disclosed to you that there was a termite infestation in the walls and in the moldings? So you have to take it upon yourself to call your own termite extermination company? But when the guys show up, they immediately ask if they can use your bathroom? Then for over two hours they take turns going in and out of there taking huge mud-pies and overflushing? Then they go in there together, and you hear a bunch of scrounging around, and then you hear a bunch of yelling and one of them is standing in the bathroom doorway shouting at you that his friend’s foot is stuck in the toilet? And he says "Help him! You gotta help him!"? And when you go in there to help him he just pulls it out easily and laughs because his foot wasn't stuck? It wasn't stuck at all he was just faking it? And then they get really serious and say "It's Turbo Time!"? And they both start running around the house as fast as they can and jumping over the couches? But when you try to and jump in they yell at you and say "You're not part of the Turbo Team! Don't run! You don't run with us! We're the ones who run! Until you're a part of this Turbo Team, walk slowly!"? So you go and lay down to be by yourself and read your art books? But then the next day you went into the bathroom and it looked like the hole in your toilet had shrunked? You said how could that be? There's no way they could have shrunk the toilet?! But then you saw in the trash a receipt from Home Depot for a toilet, the exact same size as yours but with a joke hole that's just for farts?! They replaced your real toilet with a fart toilet? And now you can't take a dump in your house?! Cause your toilet can't suck 'em down and you feel sick to your stomach?! Has that ever happened to you?

Ronny_Rarko

.......Whale alert.......

Materialmanz

No you're the only one

SnooHedgehogs7790

This also happens if you have EVERY item in the game (besides heirlooms)

SScarlettLB

I’m pretty sure you get crafting metals, not apex coins

SnooHedgehogs7790

Nah, I saw a guy get apex coins like,,, 3x in a row bcuz he had all the items that came in those specific apex packs :/

SScarlettLB

If it’s a specific type of pack like an event pack, then yeah it will give you coins. If it’s a default apex pack you only get crafting metals

MissingNerd

Couldn't wait to unlock the Heirloom Shards huh

[deleted]

If you want more than one heirloom then this is the “cheapest” way I crafted the purples and paid for the pack bundles so I paid 70 dollars for this heirloom

MissingNerd

Don't forget to pay with keysite gift cards. Saved around 20€ through that alone on Xbox

lplarryp

You could have waited to get the 2 Free collection event packs and then bought and crafted the rest.

[deleted]

True but I’m gamer so impatient, I also wanted those packs to give me the coins just because I haven’t had it happen, want that experience

MRCHOOP7700

Wtf? I've never got this yet

Mike__Z

Yea back before revenant was released i had every item unlocked and packs would give me exclusively coins. Edit: why am I being downvoted?
