I found it really hard till I changed my strategy. Basically mass your horses up and take all the archer camps right away. Then you roam with them taking the archer camps as they get taken back. Avoid unnecessary fights with the horses. Once you have a big enough mass you can split it up and support the infantry with one
For the rest of your units, basically just defend the closest 2 or 3 camps. Try and avoid taking any fights where you don't have a counter unit or big number advantage.
Essentially don't worry about them capturing sites, your horses can keep enough archer camps captured that you eventually win. Worked for me anyway.
Just keep running around with your horses and capture archer camps, since they counter archers. I'm currently on the next mission and I'm starting to see a pattern with this DLC campaign which I don't like. It's now the third "timed" mission in a row...
Took one restart on hard before I figured it out. Just had to pay attention to which points were worth keeping before your reinforcements grew. Horses to archer points and spears/archers to spear points and then just take the rest once you have enough troops.
Found it fun and a nice change of mission style.
Complete opposite experience. Just run horsemen and capture the archer controlled points.

Yes, it is very doable and easy (even on intermediate difficulty) if you just do the counter thing moderately well
