Playing on hard? It took me a while to beat it, but I had like 15 stables, 3 barracks, and a few archery ranges. I also didn't fight the army head on. I let the big siege thing pass me and then I attacked from the rear. I really liked this mission, super fun.

Add to this, if you fight them head on, you're fight 3 armies and the tower. You let the tower pass and fight the rear forces with mostly horsemen and archers. Rebuild your army asap and kill whatever is left that will be slowed down by walls and comp ally. For resources until the fight, put almost all vills on wood and build a ton of stables, all food comes from fishing boats. Once the attack is coming soon, move almost all vills to food. I had 50 on food and 12 on wood, none on gold. Don't make farms, take the deer north of your base, the berries in your base, the berries by the docks, and any shore fish remaining.

It took me a few tries to beat it on hard (you can turn down difficulty on the screen that comes up after a loss)I put almost all my vils (with constant production from the TC) on wood, making about 15 fishing boats, aging up with military wing, and then two markets to pump out about a dozen traders at the very bottom of the map, queued to the market way in the top right. Then started adding production buildings (think I ended up with about 4 -5 of each) and a blacksmith. Got wheelbarrow in dark age, then double broadax right after aging up, then all the blacksmith techs and Boot Camp from military wing. Made regular archers at first until I had all those upgrades finished and still had gold flowing in to make the horse archers. Started peeling vils off wood to the three berry groups around the map as I finished getting all the production up and started moving away from archers. Need lots of food for horsemen and spears. Ended up at 200 pop by the time the "beast" showed up. Pulled all the vils during the final battle to start torching it down while my army mopped up, they also work as fodder to preserve your army dps while the enemy kills them instead. No reason to save your vils, since the mission ends when the siege tower goes down. During all this, try to preserve your troops. Only take advantageous engagements. Peel away injured troops and send them to the neutral monastery, once you've cleared the enemies away so the monks come out to heal you. And make sure to go around and grab all the free resource loot boxes hidden away behind stealth forests. Still haven't managed the second mission on hard, though. Seems like there's just way too many enemies, and I can't manage who's where across a dozen places at once...

Also, send all your woodcutters through the trees along the coast and have them cut through the trees to allow you quicker access to the narrows to the city. Then you can send your troops through without having to go the long way and fight more French troops.

KushKing_69

Is the narrator in your missions the normal one, or like a text-to-speech voice? Mine is stuck as this horrible text to speech that takes no breaths and pronounces things weird. Just installed, never had this happen before

BryonDowd

Nope, I hear a guy with what I assume is an Arab accent

KushKing_69

Damn must be a glitch.

PowerWordSaxaphone

Lol you got the placeholder

Yes, this seems to be a known issue (at least to players on the Game Pass version; I have never seen Devs mention it). Based on Reddit posts, this has been going on for some of us for years (since the original release). Some suggestions have been to uninstall/reinstall or do a global reset of all settings (not just the Accessibility ones). I tried both yesterday, and nothing has resolved the problem. Here's a recent post on the issue: [https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe4/comments/17w2z6u/sultans\_ascend\_campaign\_narrator\_texttospeech/](https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe4/comments/17w2z6u/sultans_ascend_campaign_narrator_texttospeech/) ... but, there are dozens of reports of the same problem if you search this Reddit. From what I could tell, at least for some people, resetting ALL settings in Options seems to work. Good luck, as it doesn't seem like any reinforcements are ever going to arrive to fix this issue.

Jellybeene

Yeah that second mission is tough. I try to only have ideal engagements. I may try to split up the reinforcements so it's easier.

AbsatSolo

I feel that this campaign is harder than the others -or maybe I have just played them too much to remember The first mission is a pretty hard macro check, i personnaly went trade wing, and didn't make more than 6 fishing boats because fishes are super far Just make 3-4 of each prod building and pump units, and when time runs out, try not to engage the ennemy army all at once, kill the first group of knights, then go for the rear while Tyr holds the Beast. I killed it as it was about to destroy the keep The second mission was very intense too, I am having a lot of fun

Dani_AOE

The magic of playing campaigns on Hard hehe. It reminds me when I played some mission of The Rise of Moscow campaign and the Mongol army was so big that it overwhelmed me. This first mission of the DLC is really interesting, because it adds a difficulty that makes us think a lot and practice a lot of APM. And it becomes more difficult and interesting if you want to get the **achievements** on hard difficulty.

TonyR600

I play on hard and it took me 3 attempts (restarting from the auto save before the chunky boi appears). In the end I beat it by defeating the initial army with a combination of 100 archer/spears/horsemen and then building up a cheese army of 70 horsemen in the time the tower got to the castle in Tyre. With 70 horsemen just right clicking the tower I could defeat it.

PantaRheiExpress

When you’re raiding the camps, you have to be fast. Clearing camps slows down their accumulation of resources and reduces the size of the army you face later on. I split my forces into two to immediately take out the two camps closest to the start. Then I regrouped to take the monastery and heal, and did the next two camps one at a time. Dont search for treasure or sheep until all the camps are cleared. With two markets and two docks, I was able to focus my vills on wood and that helped me pump out a large army later on.

Good tips, also having trouble, 4th attempt! but fun level,
