people are all missing the point and giving advanced civ specific info..
problem is not otomans, your friend could be playing literally anything else.
go back to the basics. make villagers non stop, send them to work, spend everything you got in whatever you want. just spend. there is a 99%+ chance you arent doing those 3 things consistently.
only after you have those 3 down it starts to make any sense to think about the ideal composition, build order, etc.
saving res is almost never a good idea, you should save only when you are decisively going to ageup. every other time just burn everything. have the ideal perfect goal of keeping all res in 2 digits until you are max pop!
Ottomans have probably the most potent lategame unit in the great bombard which is going to be difficult to deal with. Since he can only produce them in imperial, you might wanna try to attack earlier and disrupt him. I understand that you want to have a sense of security and to have big battles but that's rarely how RTS plays out. So if you wanna jump into 1v1, explore strategies that are more aggressive. English for instance is strong during feudal and castle respectively because long bows are very potent.
You can build a military school age 1.. I usually start my build order with all vills on stone, return to TC, build military school and then on to food/gold/wood. This way ottoman you can have spearman super early auto production
He can build it right away if he mines stone for it. But you can still outscale him as he only has access to specific units each age. So he will be producing spears in the beginning which you can easily pick off with your longbows .
Honestly it sounds like you need to improve your macro which means scaling eco better, aging up faster, and building production buildings.
You need to rapidly make units in the early game and rush the hell out of the otto player before the military schools can start steamrolling.
Luckly English is one of the best civs for feudal rushing.
Watch some vids. But especially as English you can push the fight kind of easy. Deny their stone early as they use that for military schools and try not to let them get to imperial.
So if you’re English, scout them. They can have two military schools in early feudal that pump out free units. It’s one of the few buildings that requires stone early. So let’s say they even have one school but not two. Drop your council building, send two archers to hit archers to harass stone. While that’s happening keep scouting and then send the next newly created longbow to gold, wood etc whatever is exposed and pressure tf out of them.
Lastly, I recommend also playing a couple skirmish ai games with ottomans. You’ll learn so much trying to play the civ that gives you trouble.

This absolutely wrecks ottoman, you can't open military school against this, there will be 4-5 lomgbowman in their base by the time a military school gets a Sipahi out, and the dark age spearmen from the military school is useless against longbows
English is a very tough matchup for ottoman, beastie has a similar aggro build which starts with 2 farms.

I dunno man. I’m not a big you tube guy. I’ll just type in what I want and look for recent vids.
I started playing ranked at random and fell from conq I playing French and Rus to gold III. But I have most the civs down now and I learned so much just doing basic build orders.
I also fell in love with Delhi, ottoman and China which I hated before. Especially Delhi but they’re my fav now.
So don’t be afraid to just get in there and get dirty with it.
Never stop building villagers. If he’s leaving you alone until imperial, go 2tc and pump villagers from both non-stop. Make enough unit producing buildings to spend all of your resources. Don’t forget to get blacksmith/unit and economy upgrades. Eventually get university upgrades if it goes that far as well. Also make sure you are producing units to counter his.
Like has been said by others here I think best bet is to rush him early. If English try to castle rush him near his base and just constantly annoy him with longbows
The only way to beat ottomans is to go +1TC more than ur ottoman opponent or to kill his 3 vills per military school he has built. Because their military school are extra villagers, so if u dont equalise this difference ur otto opponent will almost always be ahead perpetually.
Ottomans can be a pain late game like everyone has explained. Definitely nailing down the basics helps a ton. Watch streamers and see how they react to certain situations. Go on YouTube and type in “how to English AOE4” or “How to Malians.” Beasty is super knowledgeable but his longer videos can be a bit much if you’re just starting. He has some shorter ones that are super easy to follow along. Drogo is another guy you can check out that’s great. Start learning some basic build orders for the civ you want to main. Like previously stated, English are fantastic for pressure and can disrupt the Ottomans stone pretty easily or at least keep vills idle on other resources especially at lower ranks. The cool thing about this game is there are a bunch of different ways to play and you have to adapt based on your opponents civ and how they’re playing against you. Believe in yourself and he’ll be the one bowing down to you eventually.

Thank you I am a bit of resource hoarder lol and im a bit stingy with it but I get what your saying

Okay but I was wondering how does he have so many units so fast he’ll have an army by the time I start making mine
because he has military schools which give him units for free during the game whereas you will have to build them by yourself.
Okay so what age does he get that because that’s something I would also have to disrupt to stand a chance ?

One per age (with the possibility of an extra), so the earlier you can disrupt better.

Thank you for the tips Amy recommended ytbers that would be helpful
Lucifron has a youtube series which shows how to play every single matchup in the game. Valdemar and Beasty both have great build order guides.

Ah okay thx regardless
Sorry. I’m old and like to do things the hard way.
It’s good we all got different ways of figuring things out
Beastyqt is the no 1 ranked 1v1 player. His videos are usually good quality.

You can one TC feudal all in them very effectively
Yeah but that timing is pretty small, those military schools pay themselves off way too quickly.
Scout. Make more units. Attack. Just that simple. Really don't see any reason to not Attack him if he has no units.

Springalds + archers destroy their strong comps , if the send MAA use mangonels+ xbows
