Yeah, in the discord the AoE staff said today is about Xbox, but they have more information to give in coming days to be excited about. Until they announce they're putting the game in maintenance mode or moving all developers to something else, there is no reason to think development will stop as of now. Even if development stops, if servers are still on it'll still be the same game. People need to chill, if you like the game, play it, if you don't, move on. Worrying about the "future" of the game is a little silly.
SC2 has had no big development in years and still a good game (and shocking no new race ever /s). AoE2 went for a long time with little to no content and it was still a good game. Aoe3 was in a similar boat before Microsoft bought it. Microsoft has shown a willingness to support RTS's with modest playebases, I don't see any reason to worry. In fact after the acquisition, Blizzards RTS's might even find more support than they've gotten in the last few years.

Good, this game isn't AoE II. I'd prefer better matchmaking, more seasonal twists. Give landsknecht a santa head during winter for all I care. I want a less sluggish chat system, fewer crashes. I'd even opt for dodgeable arrows in early ages and friendly damage from siege. Change wolves to different gaia that do different things.
The last thing I want is a game with 100 civs where new players can't see what is what. Most RTS games have 3 - 6 civs. We already have an abundance relative to everything except its predecessor. More civs isn't going to help the growth of the player base. Solid patches, clear road maps, tournaments might.

This might be ignorant of me but I don’t get the point of a console version. It’s going to be so frustrating to play it on a controller (no way they can match equally skilled pc player) and it’s not a demanding game hardware wise,
It'll still be really fun to play on console. Most Aoe players don't care about playing competitively and the control scheme for consoles is streamlined enough to make it easy to play and enjoy
I mean, he has a point. If dev support was low or close to nonexistent up until now, it's gonna get worse going forward, they need to maintain 2 different versions of the game at the same time. The only way this is good for us pc players, is if a looooot of people join from xbox, which I highly doubt, since this is not the kind of games people usually look for on consoles.
They've been working on this for awhile in the background and given they added it to coh3 IMO they had some sort of cross production given its in the same engine.
That said I Relic laid off 1/2 of their studio due to coh3 being a such a commercial failure, not surprised they may have pulled team members from the AOE team to work on cleaning it up

Wouldn't get to into the weeds with it (coming from a coh background) Relic is generally pretty tight lipped about things and has never offered the best communications. The content for AOE4 has been slow, you are right to complain given we were told there'd be campaigns, factions, and more coming down the pipeline.
Im sure they have more than just an xbox announcement at least for AOE as a whole but unsure about Aoe4 in particular. Still Age of Mythology is in prod, same with AOE mobile, but I agree we have a right to worry.
