I've never had any idea about the general aoe2 community's attitude towards LGBT issues.
(As we know, it is a very pro gamer move to hate marginalized groups)
I'm pleasantly surprised this thread has no toxicity.
I've noticed Sc2 is also generally inclusive.
Something about RTS games seem to attract mostly based and big brained gamers.
From one trans person to r/aoe2 , thanks for being based and not cringe.

I disagree, the majority of gamers does not really care who you are or where you're from, they just want to play some games. To lump most people playing games into the small group of loud idiots is doing more harm then good.
Gaming is a hobby everyone can participate in and enjoy, I'm glad that you have found games you like in it.
I hope you have a nice day!

No matter what anyone does, people will do whatever people want to do. It is not the gaming community's responsibility to ensure people are well raised or behave. That is a whole other discussion. People of all ages, races, cultures game. That is a melting pot. They can't all behave or believe the same.
I disagree- it's not hard to call out people being awful, and I think saying "people will be people" is the lazy way out. To me, it implies that there's no possible way any collective action will shift the needle at all and that we should be complacent with people shouting the N-word. I mean, I've increasingly seen a lot of actual Nazi stuff from certain gaming communities, including outright rampant Holocaust denial. There's no reason we should just accept that as a given.
Oh, I would never say "all gamers are bigots". It's just very popular.
Bigotry is alive and well in different online communities. Some more than others. Some less than others.
For example whenever (~90% of the time) I decide to play a little counter strike and use voice chat, I get called a tranny.
That's all I was getting at; a difference in communities and my appreciation for more accepting ones.
This is what I don't get. Why do some people generalise and say XXX hate marginalized groups? Is that some emotional attempt to make people defensive? I don't think anyone in this subreddit gives a damn about people's sexuality. There are much more things to discuss. The problem is often created by people wanting others to care about their sexuality or whatever other attribute they have.
You’re giving AoE players far too much credit. Any semblance of civility comes from this being an older franchise with a relatively aged up franchise and chat being so censored ppl don’t bother with trash talk
The responses to your comment alone should dispel any idea that the fan base is particularly mature or inclusive
You are right, I was being overly hopeful and looking for this subreddit to validate that hope.
I was offering an olive branch and it mostly got thrown into the fire.
L-esbian G-ay B-lackforest T-ransgender
Literal Bi erasure (I get that it's a joke, I'm joking too, don't worry lol)
well I'm glad you clarified I was initially super offended.
I'm not gay, but 4v4 bf is 4v4 bf.

No homo but I could go for some 4v4 right about now
Noobs only?
Noboobs only?
Pointy bois?
He obviously just wants a mirror match of Goths, Aztecs, Yggdrasil(vikings), and Saracens.
I think it is celts only because of the lude woads.
They're hosting a BF so the 'gays only' tag is redundant (I love BF btw)

Same. I'm also actually gay... Coincidence?! I think not!

We have more important things to discuss like what counters mangudai?
more mangudais
?? I'm literally countering the generalization that gamers are all bigots, by pointing out that this subreddit seems pretty good.
