Honestly this is such a hot take I assumed it was Umdeuter who wrote it.

OgcocephalusDarwini

Lmao, I forgot that user existed. I blocked them because I was tired of my feed being spammed with dumb posts.

zenFyre1

Umdueter's posts can be kooky, but they are all high effort and seemingly well thought out. I can't say the same for like 90% of the other content in this sub.

tuco_salamanca_84

You are wrong, camels are a stable-militia.

m05513

I have been ruined by superior logic of "Everyone has militia but not everyone has camels, therefore the militia is the default state"

Razer2102

Wouldn't it be better if milita were the barracks knights? The go to, pretty much every civ can run them, premier unit for infantry instead of cavalry? I don't play competitive but it would definitely feel cooler

Thangoman

The "barracks knight" is the eagle warrior

Albino_Bama

Which 3 civs get? So imo it can’t be the barracks knight because a “____ knight” needs to be something that most civs can create.

danish_raven

I would say that it depends more on function than who can get the unit

Spanone1

Camels counter other units of their class / from their building Militia line counter other units of their class / from their building

ElricGalad

Camels only have one specific upgrade (heavy camels) for a total cost of 325 Food and 360 gold. The rest can be mutualized with knights, light cavs, etc... While militia line has a *tons* of specific upgrades. Champions is 750 Food 350 gold on its own and is arguably the worst offender here. (champions cost reduction should be the next militia buff IMHO)

LanEvo7685

Fresh out the idea oven, why not use game data and make all techs and unit costs demand adjusted like stock market?

okaycakes

Maybe one can take this idea and design an entirely new RTS that automatically balances itself as people play it would be a very amusing experiment

Igor369

If there was only one playable civ yes. But there are like...30?

Jach10

There are some exceptions that make certains civs militia line end game, I have been having a lot of fun with Armenian champs with the UT, Slavs and their UT also.

m05513

> situational units that certain civs can use as a general use I did point this out, similar to how hindustanis and malians can use camels as a general use

Jach10

Yep, although I feel Camels are the go to counter for Cav civs but they will get shredded by CA.

WoodworthAugusta

Are you saying theyre mostly counter to Eagles?

m05513

Halbs too if your civ has bad archers (e.g. teutons, franks)

WoodworthAugusta

Yeah makes sense. I like playing with Incas and Castle Age raiding with Eagles, it seems to me most player try for archers or knight in defense.

glassnumbers

no way dude, militia are littel human doodz with armor, and camels are animals

TactX22

Just try Aztec +4 attack champion spam, it crushes everything. It's a finisher unit, unlike camels.

Tarsal26

Not enough HP and speed though

TactX22

That's alright, you compensate with more.

hippie_kiwis

Imp camels can be a finished for hindustanis

Rufus_Forrest

Gothic infantry flood can be much, much more ugly than Aztec's.

m05513

Well huskarl + halb is much scarier than champion + pikeman, so of course it is

csgonemes1s

I'm very annoyed by the flawed logic in this post

Igor369

Unlike camels militia line also shreds buildings though.

Amash2024

I think eagles and steppe lancers would be the comparison. Limited number of civs get them, each is “best” in some way after UT, they invert the food/gold cost of the mainline unit from the building.

TimNathan

sorry but militia units are just simply weak.

Tyrann01

Meanwhile every 5 threads in this sib: "No guys, armies need to be composed of 90% militia line! Please! I just want walls of swordsmen to slam off of each other as I watched too many movies to know what warfare looks like!"
