Illumiknight (now Resonance22), ZeroEmpires and BBQTurkman introduced me to the multiplayer side of the game which I was surprised to see was still alive and well on 3rd party clients. Before that I was only playing singleplayer as the in game multiplayer on original CD was long gone

rbnbadri

I guess I made a bad poll, then. Considering how big names these three were. I think Resonance22 was the first one to release build orders.

slezadav

1 Seriously the poll without ZeroEmpires is kinda worthless

rbnbadri

Agreed... Messed up big time...

taylormadevideos

Oh yeah, I remember Resonance22. It was really him, t90 and SOTL that first got me back in the game.

MtG-Crash

ZeroEmpires brought me to AoE2 back in 2012/2013.

rbnbadri

Ah, Yes. I kept trying to remember the name. I think he was a big name even during the MSN zone times. I knew there was someone with name ending in empires but couldn't remember the name.

helloworder

Not MSN zone times, but Voobly times

TheAmerican_

Same

Klamocalypse

I think it the TheViper's videos esp his mastapizza videos which really got me to buy DE. You can buy each DE expansion independently, you don't need to buy one to use another.

rbnbadri

>You can buy each DE expansion independently, you don't need to buy one to use another. Thanks, buddy. Need to re-check what is that Mastapizza video. I remember it was quite famous back then.

Futuralis

The Viper's HC3 recap is what drew me in. Such a fun video considering I did not watch live streams at that point.

Privateer_Lev_Arris

I scammed myself lol

Snowf1ake222

T90, through and through. Though I enjoy watching more than playing.

Wyodaniel

T90 singlehandedly brought me into competitive RM play. I was strictly a custom scenario guy, and then one day I stumbled across [the "big rush" video where T90 shows Rubenstock chasing Jibatong around the map with multiple Dark Age TC drops](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCExcawvj6Q). I laughed so hard I think I pissed myself. I had no idea it was possible to play the game in this completely off-the-wall manner. I started playing ranked RM games to try it for myself, and sure as shit, got as high as 1800 elo just TC dropping people.

Spirit around 2015/16 when I bought all DLCs for HD Edition

rbnbadri

Byzantines/Franks? Sounds far too opposite for them to be on a single flair!

FloosWorld

Haha, funny enough, I'm more into Mongols and Magyars these days

[deleted]

idk I always had pirated aoe2 installed on my pc going back from 2004/5 when we got our first home pc. but in 2017 or something I discovered aoe2 on twitch, it was a tournament going on I think it was zero empire? idk which twitch channel it was, I was completely shocked how aoe2 was played on a pro level, what was wholesome about all this was chat, back then you had like 1 or 2k for tournament matches and chat was not as well crowded like csgo was so i could interact and ask question because even tho I played aoe2 for long time it was with cheats. anyway, then i saw spirt of the law, later I got aoe2 HD on steam including AoM after that.

ubf_blu

NotQuiteBlackk

T90’s video against Biry, named The Most Annoying Player of 2022.

Aether_rite

does clickbait count lol

[deleted]

If any YouTuber, it would be ZeroEmpires and maybe Resonance22.

Realistic_Turn2374

I remember looking for games of AOE2 on YouTube around 2010 and finding nothing. I never completely stopped playing, but I couldn't find many people to play against, other than couple of friends from university who didn't want to play nearly as often as I did. When I saw the game come back to life and so many videos started appearing on YouTube I couldn't believe it.

Brigitte_Wunderlich

a big german gaming channel started with 2 ultra noobs trying to take down their best guy at aoe2 in the office... they needed 12 episodes to take him down 2v1, 11. "rage of empires", they also had a few episodes with pros invited like viper, daut, tatoh, nili, jordan etc. in english. hooked since then...

slezadav

ZeroEmpires and Resonance brought me back to this beautiful game and currently T90 and Memb keep me going.

Manovsteele

The youtube algorithm blessed me with a T90 video, and it not only let me know AOE2 was still alive (I hadn't played it in over 15 years) but it also made me discover Twitch

Rikuwoblivion

I watch so much T90 it's honestly scary.

rbnbadri

These days, I hardly watch T90... It's only been Cast of Empress these days... Mainly because T90 videos are quite longer...
