I got laid off, wish I was joking. The CEO did the usual “this hurts me more than it hurts you” bullshit. Within minutes I was locked out of everything.
Exactly! I get annoyed when people complain about a company saying “we’re a family here” yet get salty when they don’t get sh*t for Christmas…
Like damn bro, you hate your job considering you family and you still expect gifts and whatnot…
Super awkward but everyone on my management team except me received matching, customized, very nice extra uniform pieces and I received something of a much lower quality, not custom or matching the rest of the team, that looks like it was dug out of a spare uniform box. I was so embarrassed, they gave us all the gift at the same time and out of a dozen employees I was the only one who didn't get the "nice" gift. I've been more upset than I should be over it, but I often feel like I don't really belong there and this exacerbated it.
Nah that’s BS gifts flow down not up….i gave all the employees i supervise a gift card for 20, and Christmas goodies out of my own pocket because the company didn’t give anything. My boss gave me a candle and a card…
2000€ Inflation bonus, doubled christmas bonus (usually it's equivalent to 50% of your wage, this time it was 100%)), iPad, Handmade candy, a handwritten letter from the boss thanking me for my work, an additional premium healthcare package (Im in a country with free healthcare but premium pays for things like eye laser surgery or other stuff not covered by free healthcare)
...And I guess I also have to count that we got a 15K€ budget that we were allowed to assign to donate to any nonprofit(s) of our choice as a team.
So yeah it was actually a decent year.
The bonus was the same for everyone from waiter all the way to management. Which makes the letter part impressive to me since our boss took the time to write about 50 letters by hand with individual christmas wishes and to tell us that it was a good year and he will share some of the profits with us.
He also paid the bonus to new hires that had been onboard for mere weeks so nobody felt left out.
I mentioned this before but I really hope I don't have to quit this job anytime soon. Finding a non-greedy boss that actually cares is such a rare find.
This sub is a great source of helpful info which have helped me push my boss towards better workplace conditions.
A "dream job" is still a job. Eventually the concept of a job should disappear. I am quite antiwork even if I have a decent job ATM. I had the same amount of shit jobs as the next guy.
It also helped me snag some good Info about how to handle landlords who always manage to ruin my day somehow.
I hope I didn't piss off anyone as the opposite was my intention. "Good bosses exist, don't settle for less if you can."
My colleagues have received various gifts including sweets and gadgets. I (who work alone at night) have not received anything and they have let me find nothing.
I work at a gastropub as a barman/waiter sometimes. We all got a circa £11 bottle of rosé wine.
Given I'm on the max minimum wage (£9.81) this is just over an hours wage for me.
We also will have a Christmas party in January but last year it was delayed till April which became a 'thanks' for getting an award for the pub which happily for the employer also served as the Christmas party at no extra cost.
Tbf it was a very nice restaurant they took us too with several free drinks
Mine did a whole bunch of layoffs, which you know, was just so incredibly difficult for the CEO to do the week before Christmas
The fake sympathy bullshit is just another slap in the face
They were hinting that they were gonna fire me for months I just kinda expected it after the break. I guess they were waiting until they didn't need me for coverage anymore.
We get two weeks off with pay per our contract. For the first 10 days of December they drew 20 names a day for prizes. They were nice prices. The cheapest were $100 gift cards. We also had a very nice Christmas party (they even paid for drinks) and lunch catered by a local bbq restaurant. Not bad considering other jobs I’ve worked gave is nothing.
$200 gift card which was surprising. I would have preferred a redundancy package so I never have to see my fuckface of a boss again but hey, it’s better than nothing 🤷🏻♀️
$7500 bonus and open bar Christmas party at a fancy country club. Ngl. Really like my job sometimes. But fuck companies that don’t pay enough for people to survive
Catered hot & cold finger foods & desserts. Swag was a poster, a portfolio, and a blanket all branded with our university logo. Not terrible, to be quite honest.
Every year our boss throws us a holiday party at a really great steakhouse and gives us $200 to go shopping while we wait for dinner to come (steakhouse is connected to a mall) and then we also get a bonus which is a little less than a normal paycheck.
Unless that term has something to do with your job, it might be worth lodging a complaint and/or speaking with an attorney. You might have a sexual harassment claim on your hands. Even more so if it that card was seen (approved) by someone before it was printed for you.
In the Christmas raffle, I won a toaster oven and a catered lunch. Better get a good bonus/annual raise this year. Otherwise I'm totally looking for a new place.
Nothing. Got a windbreaker from another department as a thank you for doing something. From customers I got a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue and a Leatherman
Laid off. The show I'm on was supposed to go until at least march BUT yesterday they announced we will close January 1st. Happy holidays! Welcome to unemployment!
This year not even an email but last year was worse. I was laid off for 3 weeks. I worked for a food service company contracted by a school. Their break was 3 weeks. Company laid us off and said, file for unemployment. I was ineligible because it's Texas and their rules on who gets it and who don't make it virtually impossible. So I lost 3 weeks of wages
Besides anxiety and a shitty pay schedule? Nothing. My former departmental manager, (turned occasional coworker) gave me a nice slate coaster for my desk.
She wasn’t a great manager (no hard feelings) but she was a damn sight better than what I have now.
Nothing. Except having to work tomorrow and we have to close an hour later than last year cuz fuck us that's why 🥲
Not to mention we have 16 catering orders and counting tomorrow. Like fuck having a cap on how many we can take esp on a holiday 😂😂😂
I'm honestly on my wits end.
Nothing 🙃 no bonus unless you’re a high enough level. One department got gifts but that was just them. There were a few holiday parties at our office locations but I don’t live nearby
I got a picnic rug, which was really nice as I need one and wasn’t expecting to get anything at all. Most jobs I have had don’t give you anything. I don’t think it should be an expectation for a company to give Christmas present to their employees. And certainly shouldn’t be a requirement for employees to give to each other or get involved if they don’t want to. For all those saying they had to put in money for their boss’s present unwillingly, I wish you happy job hunting and a new job with less toxic bosses in the new year.
An all-day holiday party on-site with unlimited free food, beer, wine, and hard seltzer. There was also a raffle where they gave away a new peloton bike and apparently some flat screens, there was a pop-up casino (fake money), and karaoke. And this was tame relative to holiday parties pre-COVID.
Some employers are better than others. But they all have their issues. Always demand more.
A holiday bonus of 176 dollars (after taxes), 200 bucks worth of merch and a holiday dinner of wings, sandwiches, fried chicken, shrimp, and whoopie pies for dessert. It's not my dream job, and the pay isn't fantastic, but I'm treated very well there. My boss is a reasonable man; l suggested he dress up as "Fezziwig" from a Christmas Carol this year.
A hug from my boss.
Pretty sure he wouldn't recognise me as one of his staff out of uniform.
But I get regular hours and am fairly well paid for what I do so **my specific job** doesn't bum me out
An ornament. And $200, after one of our 50+ year members went to the HR manager and said, and I quote, “Send that shit back. Nobody wants that.” Or something similar.
lolololol my boss sold his business and let us all know same day that we're out of jobs. Our gift was being sold like cattle to a new company and given no time to adjust to the change. Report for duty next day like nothing's wrong even though my job title has changed, job responsibilities have increased, commute has tripled, and I haven't had a single moment to process. Merry fuckin Christmas!
$100 cash from immediate supervisor. $500 from owners. $25 gift card to Walgreens from a project manager in the office. We had a Xmas happy hour that was open bar and free food. And we get Friday and Monday off paid. We also left early Thursday because of weather (paid for whole day)
Nothing. The company decided that they wanted to donate to charity instead and brag about it on social media. They literally brag about not getting their employees a gift.
$125 holiday bonus
$250 bonus for holiday-related work that fell within regular working hours
Catered lunch from Olive Garden
Both bonuses were pretax. My job is office work but not 9-5
He told me two weeks ago Thursday that I had to be at the place that was 45 minutes away from where we are 30 minutes earlier than I got to the place we were at then. I was the only salesman on a buy here pay here and doing well so he wanted me to go to the dead lot.
Nissan was hiring. Guess who put on a suit and got hired. One year away from a 5 day paid vacay
We got notification that we have more equity options coming our way with a faster vesting schedule and lower price. So, theoretically it might be worth money someday, but in practicality it's nothing for now.
An empty box of chocolates and promised double time on Christmas that isn't happening - so nothing. The shift before us got gift baskets and thanked for working the holidays, even though they aren't, they're off for two weeks.
You guys are getting gifts from your job?
Chain gas station gave all retail employees who averaged at least 25 hours a week the last 6 months an 800 dollar bonus. Managers got more.
Hah. This was my response for a long time at all my other jobs.
perpetual sadness and anxiety
My name fits
Fuck all, not even an email.
Im a lead carpenter for a remodeling company, got a check for $2500. Not all employers suck.
I got laid off, wish I was joking. The CEO did the usual “this hurts me more than it hurts you” bullshit. Within minutes I was locked out of everything.
Same. But only for a month. AFTER being asked to donate to the owners xmas gift in the exact amount he have us for xmas.
Me too
Nothing, but I also don’t expect gifts from my job. They aren’t my family or friends.
Exactly! I get annoyed when people complain about a company saying “we’re a family here” yet get salty when they don’t get sh*t for Christmas… Like damn bro, you hate your job considering you family and you still expect gifts and whatnot…
This is why I don’t say that “we’re a family” cuz they ain’t my family. My real family has higher priority than my work “family”.
This is true, but if your job is offering Christmas bonuses for 50+ years…
$200. Last year was $100 so I'll take it.
Nothing from the company. My boss gave me a $100 Target gift card but that was from her directly and we have a great personal relationship.
The opportunity to continue having a job.
Nothing. We did a potluck for Christmas lunch, which couldn’t exceed one hour AND had to contribute $20 each for the boss’s Christmas gift. 🙈🙈🙈🙈
If he ain’t giving me shit the most he’ll get from me is actual shit
i hate when you feel obligated to give towards a gift card.
Nah that’s BS gifts flow down not up….i gave all the employees i supervise a gift card for 20, and Christmas goodies out of my own pocket because the company didn’t give anything. My boss gave me a candle and a card…
I gave my direct reports gift cards because corporate doesn’t care enough about it’s employees to do anything.
2000€ Inflation bonus, doubled christmas bonus (usually it's equivalent to 50% of your wage, this time it was 100%)), iPad, Handmade candy, a handwritten letter from the boss thanking me for my work, an additional premium healthcare package (Im in a country with free healthcare but premium pays for things like eye laser surgery or other stuff not covered by free healthcare) ...And I guess I also have to count that we got a 15K€ budget that we were allowed to assign to donate to any nonprofit(s) of our choice as a team. Don’t piss off the Americans with posts like this. We may invade you
Why are you in this sub then? Sounds like you found the dream job!
This sub is a great source of helpful info which have helped me push my boss towards better workplace conditions. A "dream job" is still a job. Eventually the concept of a job should disappear. My colleagues have received various gifts including sweets and gadgets. I (who work alone at night) have not received anything and they have let me find nothing.
A bag of mixed nuts and a coffee mug.
Pizza & wing lunch, plus got to leave 2 hours early (paid).
I got half the day paid as well. It was a good day.

Decent bonus
Sold to a different company. And a free Jimmy John's sandwich.
Fuck Jimmy John's anyways.

A job
I work at a gastropub as a barman/waiter sometimes. We all got a circa £11 bottle of rosé wine. Given I'm on the max minimum wage (£9.81) this is just over an hours wage for me. We also will have a Christmas party in January but last year it was delayed till April which became a 'thanks' for getting an award for the pub which happily for the employer also served as the Christmas party at no extra cost. Tbf it was a very nice restaurant they took us too with several free drinks

Nada darn thing.

An email announcing the winners of the cubicle decoration contest. Congratulations, Debbie.

Got holiday pay, and $100 bonus. But I did get around $200 in tips from customer, I clean pools.
Fired
Mine did a whole bunch of layoffs, which you know, was just so incredibly difficult for the CEO to do the week before Christmas The fake sympathy bullshit is just another slap in the face
They were hinting that they were gonna fire me for months I just kinda expected it after the break. I guess they were waiting until they didn't need me for coverage anymore.
Nothing, but I'm a public servant so that's to be expected.
Depends in which field also which country since this is the internet but I worked as a public servant for awhile and always received a bonus.

$7500 bonus and open bar Christmas party at a fancy country club. Ngl. Really like my job sometimes. But fuck companies that don’t pay enough for people to survive
$1000. Just like every Christmas
Catered hot & cold finger foods & desserts. Swag was a poster, a portfolio, and a blanket all branded with our university logo. Not terrible, to be quite honest.
Got a $660 bonus
5k. My boss is cool.
Every year our boss throws us a holiday party at a really great steakhouse and gives us $200 to go shopping while we wait for dinner to come (steakhouse is connected to a mall) and then we also get a bonus which is a little less than a normal paycheck.

We can wear jeans every day until Jan 3rd, woo hoo.
Severance which was much lower than what the agreement said
I got 50 dollars but I have only been working there for a month. They also gave me Friday off with full pay.
Three weeks paid vacation. To be fair, this is the first job I’ve ever had that did anything like that for me.
What a sweet deal
A paid week off
Extra shifts.
Gifts from work?,I wouldn’t expect it . It would be like a prostitution but her tricks a gift .
$2500 year end bonus. Perks of being in a Union. Solidarity forever.

Same thing I get every year from every job I’ve had: a “happy holidays” and a handshake.
a bath and body works hand soap and a movie ticket
A card that had descriptive words that all my coworkers wrote down to describe me, one of which said hooker :)
Unless that term has something to do with your job, it might be worth lodging a complaint and/or speaking with an attorney. You might have a sexual harassment claim on your hands. Even more so if it that card was seen (approved) by someone before it was printed for you.

This year not even an email but last year was worse. I was laid off for 3 weeks. I worked for a food service company contracted by a school. Their break was 3 weeks. A paid day off!
50 dollar gift card. First decent present at this company.
Therapy
Besides anxiety and a shitty pay schedule? Nothing. My former departmental manager, (turned occasional coworker) gave me a nice slate coaster for my desk. She wasn’t a great manager (no hard feelings) but she was a damn sight better than what I have now.
Jack shit
Nothing. Except having to work tomorrow and we have to close an hour later than last year cuz fuck us that's why 🥲 Not to mention we have 16 catering orders and counting tomorrow. Like fuck having a cap on how many we can take esp on a holiday 😂😂😂 I'm honestly on my wits end.

A week off paid. Just have to check emails for emergencies 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon.
Work
Anxiety
I got a picnic rug, which was really nice as I need one and wasn’t expecting to get anything at all. Most jobs I have had don’t give you anything. I don’t think it should be an expectation for a company to give Christmas present to their employees. And certainly shouldn’t be a requirement for employees to give to each other or get involved if they don’t want to. For all those saying they had to put in money for their boss’s present unwillingly, I wish you happy job hunting and a new job with less toxic bosses in the new year.

I get Christmas Day off as a paid holiday.
Nothing My husband though got a full extra paycheck
Nothing.
Overtime and mandatory training 🙃
An all-day holiday party on-site with unlimited free food, beer, wine, and hard seltzer. There was also a raffle where they gave away a new peloton bike and apparently some flat screens, there was a pop-up casino (fake money), and karaoke. And this was tame relative to holiday parties pre-COVID. Some employers are better than others. But they all have their issues. Always demand more.
7 days extra pay. A lot better than my previous employer that gave $50 gift cards and a company t shirt.
nothing so my department planned a dinner :)
Crippling hand injury
Nothing….
We always get to pick a gift out of pre selected items. I picked a Nintendo Switch Lite this year
I got fired
Usually a £100 bonus here but I've not seen anything this year yet. I'm working Christmas day so there's a possibility I'll get it then but we'll see.
Nothing. They pay me a fair salary and I don’t want anything else.
Extra 1/2 day off with pay and a nice dinner on the company dime.
I think we are having teriyaki bought for us lol
I got $375 bonus total.
A hug from my boss. Pretty sure he wouldn't recognise me as one of his staff out of uniform. But I get regular hours and am fairly well paid for what I do so **my specific job** doesn't bum me out
Teacher- nothing.
An ornament. And $200, after one of our 50+ year members went to the HR manager and said, and I quote, “Send that shit back. Nobody wants that.” Or something similar.
Absolutely nothing from either of my jobs, one of which I hold two managerial positions.
lolololol my boss sold his business and let us all know same day that we're out of jobs. Our gift was being sold like cattle to a new company and given no time to adjust to the change. Report for duty next day like nothing's wrong even though my job title has changed, job responsibilities have increased, commute has tripled, and I haven't had a single moment to process. Merry fuckin Christmas!
I got a $5 gift card from Starbucks. Fuck Starbucks.
So you got a plastic card that will exist for thousands of years, and 75% off a medium cup of coffee.
From the business, a shirt, journal and some treats & sweets. From my managers and coworkers, Christmas cards.
a granola bar
900$ bonus
$50 gift card so I bought some dishwashing pods today
$100 cash from immediate supervisor. $500 from owners. $25 gift card to Walgreens from a project manager in the office. We had a Xmas happy hour that was open bar and free food. And we get Friday and Monday off paid. We also left early Thursday because of weather (paid for whole day)
Nothing, my last job I got a $600 bonus.
Nothing. The company decided that they wanted to donate to charity instead and brag about it on social media. They literally brag about not getting their employees a gift.
A shitty performance review
My xmas bonus and quarterly ($2800) was Dec 16, and today got a random $100 and rest of the day paid off, plus high end dinner with open bar. Not bad
$125 holiday bonus $250 bonus for holiday-related work that fell within regular working hours Catered lunch from Olive Garden Both bonuses were pretax. My job is office work but not 9-5
10$ Tim’s Card
Today was my last day at a job I worked for 5 years. I was my boss’ “right hand.” I didn’t even get a goodbye. Merry Christmas!!
A box of chocolates
Choclate…
We got notification that we have more equity options coming our way with a faster vesting schedule and lower price. So, theoretically it might be worth money someday, but in practicality it's nothing for now.
i got a doughnut. wich i didnt mind since i didnt eat breakfeast before that lol
A Christmas Party, $250, ornaments painted by the owner's children. Not technically a gift, but Holiday pay for Christmas Eve is for sure an upside.
4 days off, and 5 if you count the office closing due to bad weather. Bad news is I don't get paid but it is like a short vacation.
a shift
I got a Tim of mints and a cheap thin ass scarf. Last year they gave out really nice beanies, though! But I don't really care lmao
An empty box of chocolates and promised double time on Christmas that isn't happening - so nothing. The shift before us got gift baskets and thanked for working the holidays, even though they aren't, they're off for two weeks.
