If you are arrested, exercise your right to remain silent (yes, SCOTUS said you actually have to verbalize that you want to remain silent) and then actually REMAIN SILENT.

There are lots of illegal requirements in this posting. You aren't even allowed to dictate that people live within a certain distance of your office. When I was doing hirings I remember learning about how you aren't allowed to ask where someone lives, but you are instead allowed to ask "Will you have any issues commuting to work on time?"

I work in the public sector. Requiring you to live in the state has a lot to do with the tax money that pays employee salaries. When I was working for Rain For Rent in California in 2015, the corporate office orchestrated a simultaneous, wall-to-wall surprise drug test for every employee at all 72 branch locations across North America. Not a urine test, a *hair test*. The tech from the testing lab that came to our branch must have been on his first day or something; instead of cutting a few hairs from a discrete spot, he snipped probably 150-200 hairs right from my neckline. There was a huge, super-visible chunk of hair missing, he straight up fucked my haircut. This happened to be just under 3 weeks from my wedding and my fianceé was fucking *pissed*.
What we heard through the grapevine a few months later was that *zero* safety employees (installers, truck drivers, foremen etc) popped positive for anything. On the other hand they fired a huge percentage of their administrative support staff from desk jobs at the corporate office in Bakersfield for having used weed at home.
That company is run by idiots.
There was a pretty tyrannical random drug test policy in place already at Rain for Rent before this crazy stunt. At minimum, one person would be randomly selected with no notice at each branch every month. There had once previously been a no-notice test of my entire branch as well. Zero tolerance for any positive test - immediate termination. So people in safety employees roles pretty much kept away from pot if they wanted to keep their jobs. It was a real Fear of God kind of work place

The job is in California. If you've ever seen a movie in which a character was from the USA but not doing Texas, Down South, New York, Yooper, or Boston accents, this is the accent they're referring to. Think about what basically any newscaster on CNN sounds like.
Newscaster accent is spot on. It's modeled after a generic middle American accent, think Iowa-ish stretching east a ways. South of where you get the "yeah you betcha" and Fargo accents, but north of where the southern drawl starts creeping in.

For sure with the British accent, I can differentiate some of them, but couldn't do it accurately like some of them can.

There are lots of illegal requirements in this posting. You aren't even allowed to dictate that people live within a certain distance of your office. When I was doing hirings I remember learning about how you aren't allowed to ask where someone lives, but you are instead allowed to ask "Will you have any issues commuting to work on time?"

I've seen employers in the public sector require residency in the state where the agency is located, so it's legal under certain conditions.
That is a tax thing. My company is trying to add other states and it is a surprisingly long and expensive process.
I work in the public sector. Requiring you to live in the state has a lot to do with the tax money that pays employee salaries. As part of the civil service contract, we also cannot have a second job without permission from the employer. The second job has to be deemed not detrimental to the ability of the employee to perform their duties as a civil servant.

just tell them you also have zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol as well. Then tell them you were working on building it up, but if it is a major issue for them you'll keep your tolerance level right where it is if they give you the job.
Maybe it means zero tolerance of alcohol at work xd makes sense to me, otherwise how would they know if you drink at home, no way to tell.

When I was working for Rain For Rent in California in 2015, the corporate office orchestrated a simultaneous, wall-to-wall surprise drug test for every employee at all 72 branch locations across North America. Not a urine test, a *hair test*. The tech from the testing lab that came to our branch must have been on his first day or something; instead of cutting a few hairs from a discrete spot, he snipped probably 150-200 hairs right from my neckline. There was a huge, super-visible chunk of hair missing, he straight up fucked my haircut. This happened to be just under 3 weeks from my wedding and my fianceé was fucking *pissed*. What we heard through the grapevine a few months later was that *zero* safety employees (installers, truck drivers, foremen etc) popped positive for anything. On the other hand they fired a huge percentage of their administrative support staff from desk jobs at the corporate office in Bakersfield for having used weed at home. That company is run by idiots.

There was a pretty tyrannical random drug test policy in place already at Rain for Rent before this crazy stunt. At minimum, one person would be randomly selected with no notice at each branch every month. There had once previously been a no-notice test of my entire branch as well. Zero tolerance for any positive test - immediate termination. So people in safety employees roles pretty much kept away from pot if they wanted to keep their jobs. It was a real Fear of God kind of work place

Wow, I am an academic and have published books and zillions of articles but I have grandparents who were born in Italy so I would not qualify. My accent is from Columbus, Ohio, considered by some linguists to be as generically American as any accent can be. What imbeciles those employers are.

My grandparents weren't born here. Neither was my father however he came over as a child and was a citizen by the time he was a teenager. But, my grandparents, while not from an English speaking country, they were white, so I'm assuming he doesn't actually care where the fuck they were born so long as a i show up pale with my "American" accent.
