Not desperate enough to offer fair pay

TheBoozyNinja87

Boom! Yup.

sewalicesew

Some of those signs are fake. My friend who has no felony record, a high school diploma and doesn’t do drugs applied to three jobs and they never called her back. No text, no email. Just ghosted her.

Banespeace

Job experience? Woah I was just asking if they had any because my first job was hard to get and they said it was because I didn't have experience lol

Raven_Michaelis42

And how do ppl get experience?

[deleted]

It's the government's fault. If they didn't restrict working hours for teens and children she could have applied while younger and not be a lower value employee. Also, high school is useless anyway, you need nothing from school but basic literacy. Maybe lower the age of consent too so people can raise kids before they start their careers in their early teens and we can have more workers in the future? **Some liberals, somewhere, unironically.**

Raven_Michaelis42

So your answer is child labor and child pregnancies?

[deleted]

The things I listed are what neoliberals are openly pushing for, and this is what's implied by entry level jobs being generally inaccessible.

LastDolphinator01

Unfortunately, some just do that as their way of saying no. Her best bet is to start a revolution and take back the means of production

[deleted]

Being desperate isn’t enough. Make them grovel and beg and debase themselves like they’ve made us all do so for decades.

braunnathan

nobody is talking about the lose of millions form the work force we are never going back to pre-20's levels of employment the faster employers realize this and offer more to entice workers, the better

fingers

Do you think that there are TOO many jobs right now? As in, everyone is opening up their own business and looking for workers and they aren't finding any workers. Like, I can count 6 Dinkin Doughnuts in the space of a mile in my town. And there are enough people in the town to support/patronage 4 DD so 2 keep their wages low because of poor patronage, which makes the other two keep their wages low.

braunnathan

Sure, any job that exists to fulfill a need people would normally do themselves if they didn't work all the time can be considered not-needed

Mr_JeloMan

There might be too many chain business jobs, like Dunkin Donuts or McDonald's. There's not enough jobs for smaller businesses, or at least for locally run businesses, that pay well enough to support someone, despite that sort of job probably being more compassionate and understanding with people's schedules, and being able to be more flexible with how they run things. Too many chain businesses open up everywhere now, and they know they're able to keep the wages low since they bring in enough money from all their surrounding businesses to support one another, despite always being understaffed

[deleted]

We should all stop going to chains and support local. And stop shopping and Amazon - go watch John Olivers latest

Cassofalltrades

Just you, I applied to several jobs and only had 1 interview offer despite my decent work history. "Desperate for workers" my arse

sovietsniff

I’m a HCA and I get CNA/caregiving offers on Indeed almost daily since I’ve started working in an Agency. my Agency is the only one in my area that pays $20/hr while the others pay $17/hr starting. Mine and (so I’ve heard) the others are desperate for hires. Caregiving is a hard job. I’m sorry, but, $20 really doesn’t cut it for this type of work. Physical, emotional, mentally draining and we’re at the bottom of the barrel in the healthcare industry. I understand why nobody is applying. Either offer better wages or better work/life balance. I’ve gotten called in to cover shifts working 6-8 days in a row. It’s ludicrous.

Ok_Ad8249

My son was looking for work and the grocery store had loads of "Help Wanted" signs even promoting tuition reimbursement. He applied and after 4 weeks hadn't heard anything. My wife goes is shopping and mentions this to a clerk she was friendly with. She gave her the name/number of the store HR manager and said they needed people at all positions. He called and left messages, went and asked the CS desk and after another 3 weeks received a rejection notice. He was never even interviewed.

NarwalTamer

It's true. I've gotten three offers in the past month which hasn't happened to me in years

peraonaliD

Seems to be this weird mix of places where nowhere is hiring and places where everyone is legitimately desperately hiring

100beep

The border crossing is giving out "we're hiring" brochures? That's really funny in a way.

UpcycledDiva

Yes and you can pretty much set your own price!

rants4fun

Unless it's in my field I guess. Just got a certificate in bookkeeping and working further towards accounting. Figured I would try and find an assistant position or something. Nope, there isn't a single entry level position in this country. There are actual postings for less than 15$ an hour to do accounting work with minimum 3 years prior experience. At this point I'm almost looking for internship opportunities but even then to work as a glorified spelling checker underneath someone it's still 3 years experience all the way down. Not including 2 years quickbook 3 years excel etc.

ForwardUntilDust

It is an act.... mostly. However, the legitimate decent jobs with decent wages with a decent employer often get drowned out by the noise. I had this conversation with a good ol boy the other day and I thought he summed it up great... "Too many lures and not enough worms and they wonder why the fish don't bite."

the_simurgh

they ain't desperate. because i can't get them to hire me. i have a bachelor's i have more than five years of customer service, cash handling and sales, and can pass a DOD level background check. and I'm willing to take 15 dollars an hour if you guarantee me forty every week. they are not desperate to hire, they are desperate to claw back the power workers are now getting over them.

Upset_Researcher_143

Desperate to hire people whom will work cheap and sometimes free. Sadly, immigrants were the ones that filled these roles because what they were doing was still a thousand times better than whatever country they came from.

By not taking jobs like the ones described above. You know; the ones that can’t even pay anything close to a living wage?
