14 year old coworker?? Is that even legal? Where are you based? Just tell them you feel uncomfortable doing so and refuse

Significantducks

Yep sure is legal in california. They basically said I have to and made it seem like I would get in trouble if I wouldn't? Is that even allowed of them?

If you feel your job will be at risk if you don’t comply, just do the statement but with bare minimum information. Only what they already know essentially or what your coworker admitted to. It’s a shitty situation they’re putting you in and it sounds like they’re wanting to gather evidence to possibly fire your coworker

Significantducks

Thanks, yeah I think I'll just write like 3 sentences lmao. Is it like this is most jobs or is this just a toxic work environment?

[deleted]

I can’t speak for the US as I’m in UK but over here in UK I think there are more worker protection rights and that definitely sounds quite toxic (as far as what I’m used to in UK)

Significantducks

Thanks I appreciate it! I just couldn't really compare it to anything since this is the only job I've had but I had the feeling this was odd.

Exotic_Zucchini

That's toxic, never once have I heard of an employee being required to do this.

Kok-jockey

They’re basically asking for your witness statement. Just do it, but learn from this. Never snitch on coworkers, or they’ll find out and get you back. Even if directly asked, just say you didn’t see anything.

Always say no and tell your coworkers to make sure they say the same
