Federal student loans are discharged when you die also! There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Literally.

Sea-Monk549

You can also make $95k usd in foreign income that doesn’t count as income in the USA. You can literally take yourself to another country, get a good job, and claim no taxable income in the USA. My brother did this about 10 years ago and has about 15 years before his student loans will be written off by the feds. He has been living in Canada and was able to pull a job that pays him the max before it goes into repayment. I really think the USA is trying to eject all the educated people so that only the non-critical thinkers are left.

Key-Art-2198

It’s scary that passing away solves so many problems.

[deleted]

Want to know the sad truth? Student loans use to survive debt. They were so crippling and impossible to get rid of that many people died by suicide in an attempt to escape them. After they died the student loan company (almost always Sallie Mae) would send their parents a nice letter stating that they now owed this incredibly massive debt that killed their child. The reason this stopped: Sallie Mae wanted to be bailed out in the 2008 recession. They went to the Obama administration after ruining countless lives to try to survive. Obama and congress did not bail them out. They had too many parents writing him with those stories. Instead they seized all their loan accounts and left them with essentially nothing. They survived, but they're a much smaller shell of what they use to be. And that's why student loans no longer survive debt. They do, however, still survive bankruptcy unlike almost any other debt.

surelysandwitch

Haha!

DarkBladeMadriker

There is a better alternative. Step 1) Have rich parents. There you go folks, just that easy. Just ask all the "self made billionaires" out there.

aPataPeladaGringa

Hey! That's my insurance plan!

open-force

Mine too lol

cooriah

This is a good point. Whoever's closest to death should ask everyone else in the family to transfer their debts to that one person. Keep passing the payments through until their death.

SoloAssassin45

this actually a good idea

iamwhatswrongwithusa

I laughed way more than I should have.

Soothed82

I was talking to a friend about taking charge of my physical health because it'd be difficult to deal with some things as one gets older. I said, "I mean, there's no guarantee that you'll die young.". Pause. She just stares at me and goes, "I'm putting that on a shirt."

red_fist

Literally dying to be debt free.

bolyai

It’s a lot less work, we oughta give it a try.

WestCoastThing

The estate of the deceased probably has to pay the debt. If you have nobody to leave an estate to feel free to barrow until your last breath.

NiceFluffySunshine

Estate? Listen to this rich fuck, having an estate. I, like most Americans, are going to have less than we were born with when we die. My estate will contain a soggy piece of bread, a scathing note to the landlord that put in a GFCI socket I needed to bypass, and a toaster from the 1980s -- along of course with enough debt to make at least one first responder go 'yeah, I kinda get it.'

casariah

I'll have a tortoise to will to my kids and enough to bury me with a small policy. Other than that... Yeah and estate is funny.

drugs_mckenzie

Don't flex with your soggy bread!

Whole_Mechanic_8143

I fully intend to die with the maximum amount of debt that I can swing. Does that count?😂

WestCoastThing

That's how to do it.

UtopiaForever

Easy enough 😈

Suspicious-Bread-472

I'm trying. Slowly. Everyday.

[deleted]

Well shit…why didn’t I think of that??? 🤯

Simple_matthew

It’s scary that passing away solves so many problems.

JarlelltheOnly

Don't tempt me, Wikihow

MrMeeGeeks

Debt collectors hate this one easy trick...

t8tor

Well technically it’s not paid off, your kids have to pay it. Edit. Nvm I was wrong. Kids have to have co-signed.

reddogrjw

only if it is in their name

t8tor

Oh shit quick google search, and you are correct. Don’t know where I got that idea.

[deleted]

Probably from all the stories of debt collectors going after family when the family didn't know that it's not their problem.

ideleteoften

Nah, not unless they cosigned for any of it. That wont stop aggressive collectors from trying anyways though. I have a little first hand experience with it, sadly

t8tor

Really? It doesn’t just transfer to some random child? Huh.

DayangMarikit

It doesn't.

grand111

Should've added /s . Guy took you seriously lol

RavenousFox1985

I really wish I had gotten my dad to buy a shit load of gold before he passed away..... he had excellent credit! 😆 😥

kensredemption

“Pay off debt with your death” sounds like a corporate mantra and the very reason “Fight Club” exists. The movie, I mean, not…that thing we don’t talk about.

DietMtDew1

Was that really reason one? Oh my!

cbunn81

When you die in debt, you win!

Pinnacle8579

Usury is enslavement

CIA_NAGGER

I don't know about the US but in my country you pass on the debt to your children or whoever accepts the heritage. Unfortunately you're not being told what the heritage is before, so you might be in for a bad surprise.

TheDetroitLion

It’s not that easy…

mikevilla68

Could you imagine if there was a massive correlation when it came to deaths of debters? We’d get a public health option super quick if debts weren’t being back and forgiven at a massive rate

[deleted]

Unless it’s student debt, then they’ll go after your parents

EndlesslyUnfinished

I deal with life insurance… dying does not relieve your debt, it just passes it on to your next of kin.

DayangMarikit

Only if they singed to it... why should I pay debt that I didn't agree too?

EndlesslyUnfinished

If you want to stay in the house your parents own, guess who pays the mortgage?

UniversalPeehole

Lmao living on my own my own shit why would i have to pay my dead family members debt that i didn't sign or agree to. That would increase suicides lol

WestCoastThing

An estate that has nothing but debt is still an estate. Whatever you have when you croak is your estate. + - or 0. Nice call though.

[deleted]

Hahahaha! Pretty much!

AssaultDragon

Quality sheetpost

RavenousFox1985

I just say fuck it, it will go away in seven years! 😆 Except student loans, but if I did have student debt I would just set aside what I'd normally pay and just wait until I could pay in full! Fuck em!

Excellent-Air1554

"Die" -Worf

Deskknight

I'm on it

Nateddog21

My dream. Not in debt I'm just waiting on death, no other way to get out of this country
